Life Story
Se plonger dans la douceur et la richesse de la poésie... Après "AVEC TOI", "IL SUFFIT D'AIMER", "PARLONS-NOUS D'AMOUR" , l'Auteur, dans ce quatrième recueil de poèmes "LIFE STORY", dévoile toutes les émotions et les rêves, parfois la fiction, qui parsèment le cours de la vie. A travers les méandres d'un véritable labyrinthe, il fait découvrir les situations et les atmosphères auxquelles tout un chacun est exposé dans le long fleuve que le romantisme qualifie de tranquille, mais qui peut réserver bien des surprises et engendrer autant la sérénité et l'évasion spirituelle, que d'interrogations. Dans ces mouvements poétiques, une place est laissée aux "coups de gueule" du GLAIVE qui pourfend et caricature un monde politique et social souvent bousculé, qui prête à la dérision et à l'ironie. "Y a rien de plus bordélique que d'écrire un livre : on bosse toute la journée, on est mal payé, incompris, on doit gérer le quotidien tout en réfléchissant à s'en perforer le cerveau du matin au soir. C'est le drame pour la vie sociale. Laissez-moi vous raconter. . ". Ainsi commence cette chronique d'un trentenaire, jeune père de famille, qui n'arrive plus à exercer son métier (d'auteur de bande dessinée) après le décès d'un être proche. Les pages oscillent d'une chronique familiale humoristique à des thèmes plus noirs. L'auteur aborde des sujets aussi divers que les avantages et inconvénients de la drague sur les réseaux sociaux comparés à ceux de la vraie vie, la facilité (totalement injuste et injustifiée) avec laquelle les grands-parents arrivent à faire faire à peu près n'importe quoi à leurs petits-enfants (là où, évidemment, les parents rament pour obtenir le tiers du quart...) ou la difficulté de rassurer un enfant de 7 ans quand on doit l'amener à l'école juste après des attentats. Entre chronique douce-amère d'un père de famille en perte de repères et journal de bord d'un auteur qui chercher à retrouver le goût d'écrire, une tranche de vie drôle et touchante qui dessine le portrait d'une famille du XXIe siècle.

Les " No life ", " sans vie ", sont ceux qui consacrent tout leur temps à Internet au lieu de vivre leur vraie vie. Un de ces No Life décide un jour de tout changer dans son quotidien, parce qu'il a une intuition, celle que le monde tel qu'il le voit repose sur un mensonge. Que nous ne sommes que des marionnettes. Mais il est très dangereux d'avoir un éclair de lucidité, quand on s'en prend à ceux qui tirent les ficelles...

Park Life
Ce petit roman est une bouffée d'air pur dans la vie affairée et raisonnable des citoyens du XXIe siècle que nous sommes. Un air venu du parc de Hibiya à Tôkyô, où l'on pénètre sur les pas d'un jeune employé légèrement excentrique, et soudain " l'exhalaison de terre et d'herbe vous chatouille les narines ". Là, il croise une triathlonienne consommatrice de bains moussants. rencontre un vieil homme qui fait voler un capricieux aérostat rouge, rêve, médite, s'exerce à chambouler la perspective pour voir le monde autrement. Il arrive que s'y nouent des idylles, à peine plus tangibles que le bruissement des pigeons qui s'envolent. Ce récit a le charme des parenthèses qui s'ouvrent parfois dans la vie pour laisser entrer l'enchantement, comme un léger vertige teinté de déraison. La ville n'est pas loin, les buildings cernent l'horizon, mais dans cet espace clos et protégé, se jouent les menues aventures qui donnent son goût unique à l'existence, la petite musique d'un grand parc au cœur d'une immense capitale.

« Au cours de mon temps, j'ai visité et j'ai traîné dans chaque quartier parmi les centaines de quartiers dont cette ville est faite, et par ville, j'entends la ville entière – Manhattan, Brooklyn, le Bronx, Queens et Richmond. » Joseph Mitchell est décédé en 1996 à l'âge de 88 ans. Écrivain au New Yorker durant presque cinquante ans, il composa pour ce dernier la presque totalité de ses chroniques, rassemblées dans les recueils suivant : My Ears are Bent, McSorley's Wonderful Saloon (Le Merveilleux Saloon de McSorley, éditions Diaphanes, 2016), Old Mr Flood, The Bottom of the Harbor et Joe Gould's Secret (Le Secret de Joe Gould, Autrement, 2012. À paraître en Folio Gallimard). Auteur et chroniqueur New Yorkais majeur du 20e siècle, encore méconnu en France, quoique largement loué par ses pairs (Rushdie, Amis, Auster ...), les trente dernières années de sa vie sont dominées par une longue et désormais légendaire aphasie littéraire.
Le livre qui paraît en novembre 2016 aux éditions Trente-trois morceaux rassemble quatre textes écrits par Mitchell au cours de cette dernière période, les seuls connus à ce jour : Street Life, Dans le bras d'eau, Par les passés, Note de l'auteur. Ils constituent chacun à leur façon un chapitre interrompu de ce grand roman autobiographique dont Mitchell avait plusieurs fois, dans sa correspondance ou son œuvre antérieure, établi le projet. Là s'invente une langue différente des chroniques, comme une prose poétique suspendue au-dessus du silence, faite d'énumérations, de gonflements, d'errance dans la ville et la mémoire de l'écrivain.
Mitchell est un auteur déterminant par la radicalité et la fluidité conjuguées de son style et de son projet d'écriture qui, sous les dehors de simples chroniques, dialoguait souterrainement avec Ulysse et Finnegans Wakes de Joyce.
Une postface du traducteur François Tizon, situant ces récits dans l'œuvre de Mitchell, complète l'ouvrage.

This beautifully illustrated catalogue presents a selection of exceptional seventeenth-century Dutch drawings from the Peck Collection in the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Featuring many previously unpublished and rarely exhibited works, the catalogue brings together examples by some of the best-known artists of the era such as Rembrandt, Jacques de Gheyn II, Samuel van Hoogstraten, and Frans van Mieris. The collection was donated to the museum in 2017 by the late Drs. Sheldon and Leena Peck. The transformative gift is comprised of over 130 largely seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Dutch and Flemish drawings, establishing the Ackland as one of a handful of university art museums in the United States where northern European drawings can be studied in depth. Drawn to Life presents around 70 works from this exceptional and diverse group of drawings amassed by the Pecks over four decades. Featuring new research and fresh insights into seventeenth-century drawing practice, the catalogue and accompanying exhibition celebrates the creativity and technical skills of Dutch artists who explored the beauty of the natural world and the multifaceted aspects of humanity. The catalogue features a broad selection of scenes of everyday life, landscapes, biblical and historical scenes, portraits, and preparatory studies, forming a dynamic and representative group of Dutch drawings made by some of the most outstanding artists of the period, including Abraham Bloemaert, Jacob van Ruisdael, Esaias van de Velde, Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Pieter Molijn, Aelbert Cuyp, Adriaen van Ostade, Ferdinand Bol, Nicolaes Maes, Jan Lievens, Gerard ter Borch, Adriaen van de Velde, Nicolaes Berchem, and Cornelis Dusart. Key sheets of remarkable quality by lesserknown artists such as Guillam Dubois, Herman Naiwincx, Willem Romeyn, and Jacob van der Ulft, also comprise a core strength of the collection, and serve as a testament to the visual acuity of the Pecks as collectors. Sera-t-il capable de se tenir sur scène sous le regard de ces inconnus ?

Hardy's Wessex. The landscapes that inspired a writer
This fascinating book tells the story of Thomas Hardy's Wessex. Accompanying a multi-venue exhibition, it explores Hardy's life and work. Internationally-acclaimed writer Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) is best known for his evocative depictions of the West Country landscape and its people, a region that he called 'Wessex'. What is less well-known is that this landscape also inspired him in many other aspects of his life, from campaigning for animal welfare to questioning the way society viewed women. This publication accompanies a blockbuster, multi-venue exhibition of the largest collection of Thomas Hardy memorabilia ever to be displayed at once. Hardy was born in the West Country, a few years after Queen Victoria came to the throne, and spent most of the rest of his life among its landscapes and people. When he turned writer, these landscapes and people re-emerged as his 'partly-real, partlydream country' of Wessex, in novels like Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Far from the Madding Crowd and Jude the Obscure. 'Hardy's Wessex' now conjures up a range of mental images : from raging seas on the coast to haunting ancient monuments, Victorian towns packed with life to peaceful hillsides grazed by sheep. However, through Hardy's 87-year life span, the West Country changed dramatically. Ideas of the role of women, humans' responsibility to animals, the realities of war, love and courtship, superstition, social structure, religion and how people related to the world around them altered fundamentally. Through his stories and campaigning, Hardy was keen to show not only the rural idyll, but also the tensions and diffi culties that lay beneath these views. These dramatic landscapes were the lens through which Hardy presented his worldview to his readership. From the tragedy of a woman saying farewell to her sailorlover on the end of Portland Bill, to a shepherd losing his flock and facing ultimate ruin on the chalky hills. The landscapes shape his characters, whose stories in turn convey his messages of social change to his readers. This publication will explore the impact that Wessex had on Hardy's works, and how living there shaped his views on the often divisive social issues of the period. Uniting beautiful landscape imagery with a selection of personal items from Hardy's life, this book will show you the man behind the literature.

Rethinking East-Central Europe: family systems and co-residence in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
This book reconstructs fundamental aspects of family organization across historical Poland-Lithuania, one of the largest political entities in early modern Europe. Using a plethora of quantitative measurements and demographic microsimulation, the author captures and elucidates the complex patterns of leaving home and life-cycle service, marriage and household formation, along with domestic group structures and living arrangements among different subpopulations of Poland-Lithuania, highlighting a variety of ways in which these patterns were nested in their respective local and regional contexts. By showing that at the end of the 18th century at least three distinct family systems existed in the Polish-Lithuanian territories, Szo ? tysek challenges a number of orthodoxies in the ‘master narratives' on the European geography of family forms of F. Le Play, J. Hajnal, P. Laslett, and their followers. Volume two of the book contains an extensive bibliography along with a thorough archival documentation of the census-like microdata used in the book, and provides detailed information on their quality and further technicalities pertaining to data analysis.

Iàsyr Shivaza: The Life and Works of a Soviet Dungan Poet
The Dungans are Chinese Muslims, living mainly in the Kirghiz and Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republics, whose ancestors migrated to Russia more than a hundred years ago. They speak the Kansu and Shensi dialects, but write their Chinese speech with the Cyrillic alphabet. Iàsyr Shivaza (1906-1988) is the most celebrated poet of the Dungans. He wrote numerous poems and many novels, he translated works from Russian and Kirghiz into Dungan, he compiled school textbooks for Dungan children and he helped in the creation of the present Dungan alphabet. Iàsyr Shivaza worked in the Kirghiz State Publishing House, edited a Dungan newspaper, and served in the Second World War as a war correspondent. The present work discusses his life and achievements.

He calls on the conscience of climate hinders, because the peat bog is an essential source of ecological stability, a precious reserve of carbon and the cradle of unique flora and fauna to the world and its survival also requires the integration of local communities' indigenous peoples through sustainable projects. This book is a reference tool for understanding and analyzing the basin of Congo, its natural wealth, its legal and institutional framework, in the dynamics of climate-political leadership and its myriad opportunities for the planet. As a result, the author believes that the achievement of these objectives is dependent on climate-political leadership that the Congo Basin space exerts in the concert nations. Towards the Sun. The Artist - Traveller at the Turn of the Twentieth Century

A partir de 1900, le "Grand Touriste" est devenu un globe-trotteur muni d'un appareil photo et, malgré le développement de la photographie instantanée, l'enregistrement visuel immédiat en huile et aquarelle reste le plus répandu. Kenneth McConkey's exciting new book explores the complex reasons for this in a series of chapters that take the reader from southern Europe to north Africa, the Middle East, India and Japan revealing many artist-travellers whose lives and works are scarcely remembered today. He alerts us to a generation of painters, trained in academies and artists' colonies in Europe that acted as crèches for those would go on to explore life and landscape further afi eld. The seeds of wanderlust were sown in student years in places where tuition was conducted in French or German, and models were often Spanish, Italian, or North African. At fi rst the countries of western Europe were explored afresh and cities like Tangier became artists' haunts. Training that prioritized plein air naturalism led to the common belief that a well-schooled young painter should be capable of working anywhere, and in any circumstances. At the height of British Imperial power, and facilitated by engineering and technological advance, the burgeoning tourism and travel industry rippled into the production of specialist goods and services that included a dedicated publishing sector. Essential to this phenomenon, the artist-traveller was often commissioned by London dealers to supply themed exhibitions that coincided with contracts for colour-illustrated books recording those exotic parts of the world that were newly available to the tourist, traveller, explorer, emigrant, or colonial civil servant. These works were not, however, value-neutral, and in some instances, they directly address Orientalism, Imperialism, and the Post-Colonial, in pictures that hybridize, or mimic indigenous ways of life. Behind each there is a range of interesting questions. Does experience live up to expectation ? Is the street more desirable than the ancient ruin or sacred site ? How were older ideas of the 'picturesque' reborn in an age when 'Grand Tours' once confi ned to Italy, now encompassed the globe ? McConkey's wideranging survey hopes to address some of these issues. This richly illustrated book explores key sites visited by artist-travellers and investigates artists including Frank Brangwyn, Mary Cameron, Alfred East, John Lavery, Arthur Melville, Mortimer Menpes, as well as other under-researched British artists. Drawing the strands together, it redefi nes the picturesque, by considering issues of visualization and verisimilitude, dissemination and aesthetic value.
