Most of the papers on social dilemmas were presented at a conference on social dilemmas that was held at the University of Groningen in the spring of 1984. Social dilemmas are interpersonal situations that are characterized by a conflict between private and collective interest, i.e. in attempting to further their private interests, participants may end up worser off than if they had abandonned self-interest and worked for the good of the community. The chapters in this book describe efforts made by social psychologists, sociologists, and political scientists to advance our understanding of the psychological processes that influence people's behavior in social dilemmas. It is assumed that understanding of these processes can help our search for solutions.

A moins que vous aimiez commencer un livre par la dernière page. Dans ce cas, faites-vous plaisir ! Après avoir vu disparaitre au loin la camionnette et sa nouvelle famille, Peter était sûr qu'il ne les reverrait jamais plus. Mais parfois la chance est au rendez-vous. Et maintenant, il est prêt à aller retrouver son clan. Sauf que parfois, aussi, la chance n'est pas au rendez-vous. Et parfois, la seule issue, c'est de croire dur comme fer que tout ira bien, même dans les situations les plus inextricables. "I was consumed by this series for 3 days and could not put them down ! I have to say I really did not like Peter in the beginning of Until the End of the World but he definitely grew on me. . kind of like mold. When he stayed behind to save his friends, he redeemed himself in my eyes and I even cried for him. Of course, I was stunned and elated when he showed back up at the end of the book. So Long, Lollipops is a great novella about everything Peter went through during his time away from his misfit family. I love Sarah's ability to weave a story and make you feel like you are smack dab in the middle of the action. This book was definitely a nice addition the the series and I highly recommend it ! Differential effects of early and late nocturnal sleep on the consolidation of declarative and nondeclarative memory
Nocturnal sleep apparently promotes the translation of labile short-term memories into more stable long-term memories. The present studies suggest that the sleep-related consolidation of hippocampus-mediated memories benefits primarily from early nocturnal sleep. A reduced activation of hippocampal glucocorticoid receptors and a neocortico-hippocampal 'off-line' mode during this part of sleep may be of particular relevance for this phenomenon. In contrast, non hippocampus-mediated memories benefit primarily from late nocturnal sleep. In addition to a critical amount of REM sleep, other, yet unknown factors may contribute to the consolidation of non hippocampus-mediated memories during late nocturnal sleep.

The discovery of magic
Queen Vispa and King Dungammei are the beloved rulers of their respective kingdoms. The two territories live in harmony, sharing a temple that crosses their mutual border, but they pray to different gods and have little in common outside of geography. The monarchs seem an unlikely pair, but when each violates the rules of the temple - one by entering the temple as a woman, and the other by praying to the other kingdom's god - both find themselves abandoned by their people, deciding soon after to declare the approval and presence of both gods in their hearts, as well as their love for each other. The King and Queen's subjects also abandon the shared temple, leaving it to the disobedient pair and building separate temples in their own territories. The monarchs' happy life together is, however, short-lived, as Queen Vispa dies upon giving birth to their child Delarai. The King is urged to repent and return to his kingdom. He complies, leaving princess Delarai with Magi, a nurse from a remote village, to raise her. Delarai rows up in near isolation, far from other people, spending most of her time among flowers and animals of the beautiful temple garden. Meanwhile, battles rage between the two kingdoms following the King's return. Delaware, a son begotten to the King and his next wife, gets badly wounded some years later in an attempt to stop the fighting. On his deathbed, the Prince insists on being taken to the forbidden temple to be buried there. The King, though ill himself, agrees to fulfill his son's dying wish. It is there where Delarai, having become quite an expert at herbal remedies, comes to their aid, preparing a special potion while praying to the temple's two gods in her nurse Magi's native language. As Delarai completes the life-saving act of curing the Prince, she tries to call for Magi, but the word that leaves her lips is "magic". Those who witness the event soon spread the word, and Delarai becomes recognized across both kingdoms as the creator of magic. The King, however, succumbs to old age, imparting his last kernel of wisdom unto his daughter : the two temple gods are one and the same. With this knowledge and their newfound inner strength, Delarai and Delaware unify the two kingdoms, and live happily ever after.

Victory will be next ! A Diary, 6th June - 10th August 1944
The story takes place in Brittany, focussing on Rennes and Redon, i.e. about 200 kilometres (125 miles) from the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy, about fifteen minutes by plane as the crow flies. The months of June and July 1944 were very difficult for the allied troops. They relentlessly fought to block German reinforcements coming from the West and the South, which resulted in constant bombing and machine-gunning of the rear boundary of the front line, the area where we were living. As civilians, we did not take part in the fighting and everyday life alternated between calm periods, on the verge of being "normal", and tragic moments of great tension. ''Victory will be next ! " is a set of notes written at that moment in time, day by day, by a fifteen-year-old boy. They are, obviously, fragmented, even a little naive, But they are nonetheless a testimony of a snapshot of history within the larger picture of WWII. They should be taken as such.

Breath of life. La vie n'est qu'un souffle
Le yidaki, plus connu sous le nom de didgeridoo, est un instrument de musique emblématique de l'Australie aborigène. Se diffusant jusque dans les rues des villes européennes, le yidaki a acquis une telle popularité internationale qu'il est presque devenu synonyme de la culture aborigène. Malgré cet intérêt, le yidaki reste très largement méconnu dans ses significations culturelles profondes. Cette exposition et ce catalogue ont pour ambition de familiariser le public européen avec ce fascinant instrument de musique, ainsi qu'avec le peuple, la culture et la terre dont il est issu. Car le yidaki n'est pas seulement un instrument emblématique, c'est aussi un marqueur culturel et spirituel. Il s'agit de toute l'histoire d'une région et d'un peuple ; et il s'agit aussi de guérison. Les Yolngu du nord-est de la Terre d'Arnhem sont depuis des temps immémoriaux les gardiens du yidaki. Djalu Gurruwiwi, l'une des plus grandes figures d'autorité en la matière, possède un lien étroit avec cet instrument sacré dont il nous livre un aperçu immersif. A partir de ce "son originaire" , pour reprendre les termes de Reiner Maria Rilke, le regard se tourne vers d'autres exemples de l'art et de la culture yolngu. Gunybi Ganambarr, Malaluba Gumana et Bulthirrirri Wunungmurra sont des artistes yolngu de renom, tous trois issus de la communauté isolée de Gangan. Leurs oeuvres nous font voyager à travers plusieurs lieux ancestraux ainsi qu'à travers les histoires qui leur sont associées, dont celles des esprits mokuy ou de Wititj, le Serpent Arc-en-ciel. Ancrées dans un riche savoir culturel, ces oeuvres vivantes et novatrices connectent passé et présent.

"Letters to Immanuel Bekker" is an edition of forty-three letters written between 1817 and 1825 to the German philologist Immanuel Bekker by three friends. Most of the letters are by Henriette Herz, who had a famous salon in Berlin at the turn of the eighteenth to the nineteenth century. The letters from Italy (1817-1819) discuss the life of the German colony there, especially of the German artists. The correspondence contains references to the social, cultural and political life in Berlin and in Germany during the second decade of the nineteenth century.

Marie vit seule dans le monde extérieur avec son lourd secret. Ils n'auraient jamais dû se rencontrer. Malgré la différence d'âge, leur amour en sortira-t-il grandi ?

Porté par une prose élégante et un regard tranchant, ce premier roman d'une maturité impressionnante pointe sans manichéisme le diable caché dans les détails d'une vie américaine en apparence apaisée et dresse le portrait sensible d'un homosexuel noir en crise d'identité.

Élevée dans une petite ville conservatrice du nord de la Californie, benjamine d'une fratrie de six enfants, Megan Rapinoe tape dans son premier ballon à l'âge de quatre ans. Son talent est une évidence.

Après "AVEC TOI", "IL SUFFIT D'AIMER", "PARLONS-NOUS D'AMOUR" , l'Auteur, dans ce quatrième recueil de poèmes "LIFE STORY", dévoile toutes les émotions et les rêves, parfois la fiction, qui parsèment le cours de la vie. A travers les méandres d'un véritable labyrinthe, il fait découvrir les situations et les atmosphères auxquelles tout un chacun est exposé dans le long fleuve que le romantisme qualifie de tranquille, mais qui peut réserver bien des surprises et engendrer autant la sérénité et l'évasion spirituelle, que d'interrogations. Dans ces mouvements poétiques, une place est laissée aux "coups de gueule" du GLAIVE qui pourfend et caricature un monde politique et social souvent bousculé, qui prête à la dérision et à l'ironie. Les vers en acrostiches complètent le tableau arc-en-ciel de LIFE STORY, où l'âme anime les noms.
