Elena Kats-Chernin wrote Afterwards for the 18th birthday of a young acquaintance, Guy Knopke, who had just started playing the bassoon. The title refers to "the new adventures and changes that can lie ahead after a significant milestone", according to the composer. She created a solo [also duo] piano version for herself, which is published in the anthology Piano Village (BB 3409). The final version of the original for bassoon and piano, which is no longer quite suitable for beginners, was recorded on CD by Elena Kats-Chernin together with the soloist Lorelei Dowling on Chromart Classics in 2017. Wild Swans Suite. for violin and piano. violin and piano.
"Being Russian born I have a strong connection to the ballet scores of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Stravinsky, and as a result in the Wild Swans, more than in any other work of mine, I allowed myself the freedom to roam through 200 years of musical genres, ranging from Hungarian Operetta through folk music and even including the influences of jazz and popular music, " says Elena Kats-Chernin. The full-length work, which premiered in Sydney in 2003, was written for choreographer Meryl Tankard after the two artists had already worked together for the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games, and became one of the composer's greatest successes. Many excerpts in various arrangements have a concert life of their own today - including the world-renowned Eliza Aria. Arranged by the composer in 2004 for violin and piano after the original orchestral version, the half-hour suite comprises ten characteristic movements : Green Leaf Prelude, Eliza Aria, Brothers, Wicked Witch (piano solo), Magic Spell Tango, Glow Worms, Darkness of the Forest, Eliza and the Prince, Mute Princess, Transformation. The names of George Gershwin (1898-1937) and Ira Gershwin (1896-1983) are synonymous across the globe with American musical creativity. The Gershwin family estates, their publishers, and the University of Michigan have joined forces to produce The George and Ira Gershwin Critical Edition-the first-ever scholarly edition of the Gershwins' music and lyrics. This all-new practical edition facilitates both study and performance, giving a wide audience of musicians, scholars, students, and enthusiasts alike greater insight into the Gershwins' art. The goal is to create clear and definitive publications that achieve the most accurate representations possible of the Gershwin brothers' unique and pioneering creativity. This all-new critical edition of the original 1924 arrangement of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue presents an authoritative transcription of arranger Ferde Grofé's handwritten holograph score preserved in the collection of the United States Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The edition represents as best as possible the piece as premiered by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra at his "Experiment in Modern Music" concert on February 12, 1924. Grofé prepared the score for the specific talents and timbres of the Whiteman Orchestra, largely from an ink fair copy of Gershwin's two-piano short-score manuscript. Jacques Offenbach was not only a composer of inexhaustible imagination, but also a virtuoso cellist. Even after his first years in Paris, he liked to perform as a musician again and again. To mark his 200th birthday in 2019, the Offenbach Edition Keck OEK publishes original compositions by the 'Mozart of the Champs-Elysées' for 'his' instrument plus piano accompaniment. The pieces are suitable for amateur studies and concert performances alike - not only in the anniversary year ! Auteur de pièces pour piano, de mélodies, d'oeuvres de musique de chambre et de pièces pédagogiques essentiellement destinées au clavier, il obtient un succès considérable avec Alice aux Pays des Merveilles pour piano à quatre mains et récitant : aussi subtile que fidèle à l'original, cette traduction musicale du texte de Lewis Caroll, que plus de 200 concerts ont fait connaitre à travers le monde, incite l'Orchestre National du Capitol de Toulouse à lui passer commande d'une version orchestrale, confirmant ainsi la place qu'a su conquérir son univers sonore dans le paysage contemporain. Lauréat du Concours International de piano Claude-Kahn, Florent Nagel s'est produit dans de nombreuses manifestations telles que le Festival de Wallonie, Notes d'Automne et le Festival Mauricio Kagel. Les invitations des ambassades et des centres culturels français lui permettent de donner de nombreuses masters-classes à l'étranger. Sine nomine. partition pour alto et piano
Le manuscrit du Sine nomine porte la date d'achèvement : "Paris, 24/2/1987" . Les circonstances de sa naissance auraient dû conduire à un résultat diamétralement opposé à ce que l'on entend : il s'agissait d'offrir un cadeau de fête à Michel Jourdain (organisateur de la session d'été que tenait Rolande Falcinelli à Belley ainsi que de plusieurs de ses concerts à Paris) et elle remit la pièce au dédicataire accompagnée de vers de mirliton - en fait un acrostiche sur le titre Sine nomine, pour justifier... l'absence de titre ? ! -, laissant pressentir une pochade pour dîner entre amis... Or on découvre - ô stupeur ! - une musique sombre, tragique même, dévoilant les versants pessimistes et introvertis d'une personnalité en rupture face à l'ivresse matérialiste d'un monde en décomposition ? ; l'écriture s'avère pleinement représentative de son style à cette période, avec un langage harmonique tourmenté ne se posant jamais sur des repères sereins. Le chant généreux de l'alto s'élève en amples arches depuis les tréfonds mystérieux d'où naît la pièce. Le lyrisme de l'instrument tant aimé de la compositrice s'exprime comme pour survoler le chaos. Sine nomine fut créé le 19 décembre 1987 par la compositrice au piano, avec le violoniste et altiste américain Jason Meyer, à l'Institut national des jeunes aveugles (Paris), sur un Bösendorfer Imperial, type de piano pour lequel Rolande Falcinelli nourrissait une prédilection affirmée, ce qui n'est pas sans importance pour les couleurs graves et profondes à rechercher dans l'interprétation de cette pièce.

Die hochgelobte CD Strings von Jim Snidero entstand unter dem Eindruck der Terroranschläge vom 11. September 2001. Zum CD-Album Strings von Jim Snidero erscheinen nun erstmals die Originalpartituren aller aufgenommenen Stücke in einer von Snidero autorisierten Fassung : Snideros dreiteilige River Suite reflektiert Stimmungen am Hudson River.
