The Concept of Man in Igbo Myths

In the vast silence of their isolation, the traditional Igbos have learnt the ways of living in harmony with nature. From their origin in distant time, they have kept a sacred perspective on the natural world. In our age, there is the need for traditional wisdoms to retain their validity and be intrinsic to our philosophic and scientific perceptions of the cosmos. We cannot do without their knowledge, their spiritual perspective, and their deep faith in the harmony of all nature. Ignoring these qualities has profound environmental implications. Global warming, environmental pollution, and the exhaustion of nature's resources are but a few of the symptoms of the nature's experiences as we continue to mistreat it in order to satisfy our own ends. This work helps us to realise that wherever we are, we are a part of nature. All the things around us are as presences, representing forces and powers of life that are not ours and yet are all part of us. Then we find them reflecting in ourselves, because we are nature, though not identical with it.

Canonical Marriage Preparation in the Igbo Tradition in the Light of Canon 1063 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law

The Igboman who embraces Christianity wants to remain a Christian without rejecting his Igbo identity and culture. In view of this, there is an urgent need to foster and promote marriage preparation in Igboland as a way of rediscovering the Christian and traditional values of marriage as an institution. This aims at providing the ambience and opportunity for prospective couples to establish successful marriages and their stability in Igboland. In this regard, as an implementation to its renewed meaning and understanding of marriage, the Church recognizes the necessity for effective and adequate marriage preparation and pastoral care of marriage. The study attempts to give the influence of theological and canonical enrichments in the meaning and understanding of the matrimonial sacrament upon the legal provisions, guidelines and programs for marriage preparation in the Igbo dioceses of Nigeria.

The Public Concept of Land Ownership

In South Korea the increase of population and the economic growth together with a shortage of arable land has led to land speculation. The government has tried to encounter this speculation with legislative acts introducing ceilings on land ownership, imposing taxes on excessive land holding and controlling real-estate transactions. These public policy measures are understood in Korea as the "Public Concept of Land Ownership". The Korean reports collected in this book explain in detail this concept and measure it by its economic efficiency as well as by its constitutionality. A part of the German reports describes how the same legal questions are dealt with under German law. Other reports examine the history of land ownership and the reprivatisation of land in East Germany after 1990.

Thinking about Physics

Physical scientists are problem solvers. They are comfortable "doing" science: they find problems, solve them, and explain their solutions. Roger Newton believes that his fellow physicists might be too comfortable with their roles as solvers of problems. He argues that physicists should spend more time thinking about physics. If they did, he believes, they would become even more skilled at solving problems and "doing" science. As Newton points out in this thought-provoking book, problem solving is always influenced by the theoretical assumptions of the problem solver. Too often, though, he believes, physicists haven't subjected their assumptions to thorough scrutiny. Newton's goal is to provide a framework within which the fundamental theories of modem physics can be explored, interpreted, and understood. "Surely physics is more than a collection of experimental results, assembled to satisfy the curiosity of appreciative experts," Newton writes. Physics, according to Newton, has moved beyond the describing and naming of curious phenomena, which is the goal of some other branches of science. Physicists have spent a great part of the twentieth century searching for explanations of experimental findings. Newton agrees that experimental facts are vital to the study of physics, but only because they lead to the development of a theory that can explain them. Facts, he argues, should undergird theory. Newton's explanatory sweep is both broad and deep. He covers such topics as quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, field theory, thermodynamics, the role of mathematics in physics, and the concepts of probability and causality. For Newton the fundamental entity in quantum theory is the field, from which physicists can explain the particle-like and wave-like properties that are observed in experiments. He grounds his explanations in the quantum field. Although this is not designed as a standalone textbook, it is essential reading for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and researchers. This is a clear, concise, up-to-date book about the concepts and theories that underlie the study of contemporary physics. Readers will find that they will become better-informed physicists and, therefore, better thinkers and problem solvers, too.

Temporal Logic, Omniscience, Human Freedom - Perspectives in Analytic Philosophy

The work shows the usefulness and limitation of modern logic in the study of traditional metaphysical problems. As is the usual case in all criticism of analytic philosophers against traditional philosophy, word usage must be limited to what the human mind can know. The notion of timeless knowledge for example contradicts our normal mode of word usage and cannot serve as adequate in reference to knowledge be it that of man or of God. If timeless knowledge applied to divine mode of knowing then there cannot be human freedom.

Des annonces de casting, recherchant une interprête féminine dans le cadre de la production du prochain Man of Steel, avaient induit certains aficionados de Wonder Woman à l'imaginer dans le futur blockbuster. Suite à quoi DC Entertainment avait démenti cette éventualité. Avis aux déçus, un fan a réalisé son propre court métrage tandis que le scénariste David Goyer ainsi que Max Landis ne seraient pas à court d'idées concernant la superhéroïne.

Cela fait désormais un petit moment qu'on restait sans nouvelles de Dan Brown, depuis Le Symbole perdu, paru en 2009. Malgré tout, pour la quatrième année consécutive, Brown remporte un titre, et non des moindres : celui de l'auteur dont les livres sont le plus donnés à l'Oxfam, la confédération d'ONG. Cette dernière a publié un classement livresque à l'occasion du festival littéraire de charité annuel, Bookfest.

Ce sera long, ce sera bon, et ce sera donc meilleur encore pour les fans de Superman et Batman qui attendaient avec une impatience féroce le... 17 juillet 2015. Enfin, s'ils s'en trouvaient pour avoir décidé de retenir leur respiration jusqu'à la sortie de Man of Steel 2, ils peuvent prendre une grande bouffée d'oxygène. Warner Bros a officiellement annoncé qu'elle repoussait la sortie au 6 mai 2016.

Bart van Es raconte dans ce roman la survie de Lien de Jong, alors jeune fille, pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, dans des Pays-Bas très prompts à collaborer avec l'Allemagne nazie.

Sur Netflix, The Gray Man : Ryan Gosling explosif

Houlàlà, celui-ci je l'ai aimé très très fort ! Premier volet d'un diptyque fantastique, dans tous les sens du terme !

Ce titre porte le label Comics mais si vous pensez être hermétique au genre ne vous y trompez pas, Urban l'a édité en grand format, le démocratisant à tous types de lecteurs, avec un dessin souvent incroyable, un récit extrêmement original et addictif, et des cumuls d'idées ingénieuses pour exploiter de la façon la plus complète ce que ce format de lecture permet ! C'est en fait juste génial !

Et, cerise sur le gâteau, ce beau livre de plus de 180 pages est à seulement (ça aussi c'est fantastique) 15 € !!!

Et toi, tu la vois comment la fin du monde ?

Années 1970. Alan Bennett, dramaturge, habite le quartier de Camden Town. Sa voisine d’en face : une vieille femme qui vit dans une camionnette,. Une relation étrange se développe entre eux. Le film est adapté du roman La dame à la camionnette, sorti en 1999. Alan Bennett l’avait ensuite adapté au théâtre. Il a participé au scénario du long-métrage.
