Colourful

Koi Furu Colorful Tome 9

SISLEY. Edition en anglais

Alfred Sisley is now recognized as one of the great landscape painters of the nineteenth century, and a leading figure in the Impressionist movement. He divided his time between France and England, and the 55 colour illustrations in this book include the celebrated snow scenes of the Paris suburbs, his views of the flooded Seine at Port-Marly and his paintings of the colourful regattas on the Thames which Kenneth Clark described as embodying 'the perfect moment of Impressionism'. Richard Shone has completely updated his essay, first published in 1979, and selected new colour plates and added extensive commentaries on the illustrations to make this book an ideal introduction to the work of Alfred Sisley. Richard Shone is Associate Editor of The Burlinglon Magazine. His publications include Bloomsbury Portraits (1976, revised 1993), Walter Sickert (1988) and Sisley (1992), all published by Phaidon.

Dogs. Authentic and fictitious graphic inventory

Dogs is a kennel of 200 drawings made by Jochen Gerner between 2021 and 2023, following his study of birds. Each of these dogs was drawn with pigmented Indian ink felt pens on small-format lined and squared school notebooks from China and India. This series of drawings follows the graphic experiment of Jochen Gerner to explore all the potentialities of the grids, lines and colours in the representation of textures and hair. Focusing on dogs, which Jochen Gerner represents in a touching and very funny multiplicity, this collection reveals us that hardly nothing is required on paper for these dogs to breathe, each of them in an outstanding singularity. Braces, squares, lozenges, waves... The colorful patterns cut and cross each other with a disconcerting, always innovative simplicity to make their hair shine and ripple. With this new bestiary holding as much of the illustration as of graphic design, Jochen Gerner invites us to a whimsical look at the world and proves us once again the singularity of his observation.

Monographies

Dior by John Galliano (édition française). 1997-2011

During his time as a student at London's Central Saint Martins, Gibraltar-born British fashion designer John Galliano worked as a dresser at the National Theatre, learning the art of costume and the power of illusion. As a regular in London nightclubs, Galliano met a coterie of artists and colorful personalities, forging strong ties with kindred spirits who would play a decisive role in his career - among which Stephen Jones, who would become Dior's milliner. Following the success of his own brand (founded in 1984,) he was appointed Creative Director of ready-to-wear and haute couture at Givenchy in 1995, before joining Dior in 1996 as Artistic Director of the women's collections. There, he distinguished himself with his extravagant shows that combined eclectic historical and cultural inspirations - a global kaleidoscope of references and unbridled inventiveness, imbued with romanticism and history. The designer's sensitivity for haute couture know-how and innate sense of the spectacular has garnered him a reputation as a master of the silhouette. John Galliano has truly reinvented the art - and the very role - of haute couture, redefining its tropes into a new type of contemporary fashion that combines the influences of his travels - whether real or born of his imagination - and the bountiful heritage of Christian Dior. This book highlights the exceptional silhouettes he created for Dior collection after collection from 1996 to 2011, through his most emblematic models, as photographed by Laziz Hamani, alongside shots by Steven Meisel, Annie Leibovitz, Irving Penn and Paolo Roversi. This singular odyssey is the fifth volume in a new series of books paying tribute to the House's Artistic Directors.
