Way to blue
"Way to blue" est un récit photographique, tel un carnet intime. Arnaud Chochon, photographe natif de Charente-Maritime et basé à Toulouse, a commencé ce travail en 2018 après avoir développé un film de son appareil argentique. Parmi les photos oubliées de ce film, il y trouve son propre portrait réalisé par son frère décédé quelques mois auparavant où ce dernier apparaît dans le reflet des lunettes de soleil. Commence alors un travail photographique de 4 ans dont la forme est variée, du numérique à l'argentique, du compact au reflex en passant par le téléphone, pourvu qu'elle incarne les différentes phases du deuil et de la reconstruction. De souvenirs intimes à des paysages paisibles ou mouvementés, ce récit reprend petit à petit le chemin de la vie où l'humain retrouve une place.

Bornes to walk
Atteinte de Fybromyalgie, elle a parcouru 6 000 kilomètres pour sensibiliser sur sa maladie Elle avait 14 ans lorsque les prémices de la maladie sont apparues au cours d'un entraînement sportif. Et quelques années se sont passées avant qu'elle ne puisse mettre un nom sur ses douleurs perpétuelles. Depuis, Violette Duval se bat avec son corps et avec les médecins qui n'opposent bien souvent que le mépris à ses souffrances. Mal connue, la fibromyalgie n'entre pas dans les cases des raisonnements scientifiques. La maladie a bouleversé ses projets, ses rêves et sa vie entière. Violette ne tient plus en place, voyageant sans cesse, solitaire, et croquant le monde à pleines dents. En 2019, elle s'élance dans un incroyable périple, la menant du Mont Saint-Michel à Marseille, via l'Espagne et le Portugal : 6 765 km à pied, accompagnée de sa poussette, pour faire connaître et reconnaître sa maladie. The flexibility and generality of the GLIM language encourage a different approach to statistical analysis, which stresses parameter estimation and model criticism rather than hypothesis testing. The GLIM package can handle most of the models that ecologists are likely to fit to their data, including log-linear models of count data using Poisson errors, logistic regression of proportion data using binomial errors, and a wide variety of models for the analysis of survival data. It also allows an extremely general approach to more familiar procedures such as analysis of variance, multiple regression and the analysis of contingency tables.

Statistical modelling in GLIM is introduced through an extensive series of ecological examples, where graphical display, model criticism, model simplification, plots of residuals and tests of assumptions about error specification are explained in full. A new thematic theory is demonstrated in this book. Thematic theories and their antecedents (Gruber 1965, Fillmore 1968) are to account for morphosyntactic phenomena (concerning argument structures) whose determining factors are likely to be of a semantic nature/origin. But what is the relevant semantic information ? And how is it to be captured (and formalized)? As is shown by the wide variety of competing current thematic theories, there is no consensus upon these crucial questions. The novel starting-point proposed in this book is the creation of a semantic basis where traditional roles (Agent, Patient, Instrument, etc.) are dispensed with. Instead, a special comparative analysis of morphologically related argument structure versions will provide the relevant semantic information, which makes it possible to associate argument frames with rich internal structures via exact formal calculations. Abstract positions in these internal structures are substituted for thematic roles, in harmony with the spirit of Saussure's structuralism.

The Crisis of Representative Democracy
The ideological background and the deficiencies of the concept of representation are being analyzed. It is shown that the present crisis of the Western democratic system is to be attributed to the form of oligarchy which has developed as a result of the "dogma of representation". The fictitious character of representation is being elaborated on the ontological, psychological and normative levels. An analysis of present and historical forms of parliamentary systems (as examples for the ideology of representation) is followed by a reflection on possible alternatives to this traditional system of power. Various forms of direct democracy are examined in regard to their practicability.

Numerical Methods for Wave equation in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics. With 93 illustrations
This scholarly text provides an introduction to the numerical methods used to model partial differential equations governing wave-like and weakly dissipative flows. The focus of the book is on fundamental methods and standard fluid dynamical problems such as tracer transport, the shallow-water equations, and the Euler equations. The emphasis is on methods appropriate for applications in atmospheric and oceanic science, but these same methods are also well suited for the simulation of wave-like flows in many other scientific and engineering disciplines. The text discusses finite-difference, spectral, finite-element, and finite-volume methods. Also included are additional chapters on semi-Lagrangian schemes, nonreflecting boundary conditions, and methods for the efficient solution of problems that include physically insignificant rapidly propagating waves. Throughout the book the author has followed a middle course between the theorem-proof formalism of a pure mathematics text and the highly empirical approach found in some engineering publications. Although there are no formal proofs, the essential characteristics of the various schemes are mathematically derived in a style familiar to physical scientists. Numerical examples illustrating the theoretically derived properties of the various methods are presented throughout the book to establish a concrete link between theory and practice. Both theoretical and applied problems are provided at the end of each chapter. Numerical Methods for Wave Equations in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics will be useful as a senior undergraduate and graduate text, and as a reference for those teaching or using numerical methods, particularly for those concentrating on fluid dynamics.

The Artist Helen Coombe (1864–1937). The Tragedy of Roger Fry's Wife
This fascinating book presents the ? rst biography of Helen Coombe, a woman admired not only for her artistic skill, but also for her intellect, personality and wit. It reveals her family background and education, her place in the Arts and Crafts Movement and her outstanding artistic output. Helen Coombe was married to Roger Fry, an artist who was to achieve most fame as an art critic, historian and protagonist of the Bloomsbury Group. Soon after their marriage in 1896, she displayed symptoms of schizophrenia. After the ? rst episode, she temporarily resumed her career and had two children with Fry, but for the last thirty years of her life she was sectioned under the Lunacy Act and committed to an institution. This thoroughly researched book makes full use of archival material, including correspondence, diaries and medical records. It illuminates late Victorian and Edwardian society and culture. It throws new light, by no means all of it favourable, on Roger Fry. It is a 'must' for all interested in the Bloomsbury Group, art history, and the handling of mental illness at a time before ef ? cacious antipsychotic drugs were available.

This dissertation is an attempt to present the philosophical way to God according to Bernard Lonergan - one of the most prominent exponents of modern Catholic philosophy and theology. According to the inner dialectic between that which is existential and that which is rational in human knowing of God, the new meta-proof of God's existence is presented in the perspective of existential conditions for the acceptance of such a proof. Particular attention is devoted to the solution of Kant's critical problem, which is a necessary condition for every critically grounded affirmation of God, for every affirmation up to our time. In this way a sketch of the philosophy of God is presented here which can well serve as a sketch of the textbook in this philosophy.

From scribble to cartoon. Drawings from Bruegel to Rubens
In this exhibition, the Museum Plantin-Moretus shows the 80 most beautiful old master drawings from Flemish collections. From scribble to cartoon : Drawings from Bruegel to Rubens in Flemish Collections (Van Crabbelinge tot Carton : Tekeningen van Bruegel tot Rubens in Vlaamse Collecties) gives an astonishing and representative overview of the art of drawing in our regions in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 2020, the Flemish government placed a large number of old master drawings on their masterpiece list, including rare artworks by Frans Floris, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony Van Dyck, Jacques Jordaens, Otto van Veen, Jan Fijt and many more. The majority of these masterpieces are kept in the Museum Plantin-Moretus. The museum takes the official recognition of these drawings as masterpieces as an opportunity to put its unique collection in the spotlight. The exhibition presents an overview that illustrates who, why and how people drew in our regions in the 16th and 17th centuries

D'un seul mouvement du coeur, contemplons le repos de cette Mère, observons les enfants qui sortent d'elle. Tel est le monothéisme si vivant des Chinois. Le Taoïsme sécrète l'optimisme, désarme l'agressivité, élude les difficultés, avec la grâce du naturel propre à l'esprit chinois.

TAO TE KING. Le livre de la voie et de la vertu
Lao Tseu, qui aurait vécu six siècles avant notre ère, est avec Confucius, dont il fut le contemporain, le personnage le plus illustre de l'antiquité chinoise. Quant au Tao Te King qui lui est attribué, sur des bases d'ailleurs moins historiques que légendaires, c'est sans aucun doute l'ouvrage le plus souvent traduit de toute la littérature extrême-orientale. Ces quelque cinq mille carachères chinois ont donné lieu à d'innombrables traductions et interprétations. La présente version se situe résolument dans la perspective d'une adaptation de l'antique sagesse à notre monde et à notre langage contemporains. Plus que jamais, en effet, notre conscience occidentale a besoin d'entendre ces paroles fascinantes, porteuses du secret spirituel de l'Orient.
