Côtoyer les dieux. L'organisation des espaces dans les sanctuaires grecs et romains
Cette monographie constitue le dernier volet de publication scientifique du programme "Des espaces et des rites. Pour une archéologie du culte dans les sanctuaires du monde méditerranéen" , commun aux Ecoles françaises d'Athènes et de Rome (2012-2016), et rassemble dix essais. Face à la richesse sémantique des genres littéraires et des processus de narration, l'archéologie offre une grande variété d'informations matérielles qui font sens et qui regardent au moins trois domaines, l'architecture et l'organisation des espaces, les objets et les programmes iconographiques ainsi que les pratiques, rituelles ou non, déployées dans les complexes sacrés. C'est la place du religieux dans la vie des cités qui est en jeu ici : on côtoyait les dieux partout, "dans des espaces vécus comme peu humanisés" , dans les murs et hors les murs, dans les espaces urbains, dans la sphère privée, mais aussi et surtout dans la nature, "into the wild" . Toute la perception du divin est analysée ici, dans toutes ses formes, par des chercheurs spécialistes des sanctuaires antiques. This monograph is the last part of the scientific publication of the programme entitled "Spaces and Rites. The Archaeology of Worship in the Sanctuaries of the Mediterranean World", common to the French Schools at Athens and Rome (2012-2016), and brings together ten essays. Faced with the semantic wealth of literary genres and narrative processes, archaeology provides us with a huge variety of material information that makes absolute sense and covers at least three areas, architecture and the organisation of spaces, iconographical objects and programmes, as well as the practices carried out in sacred spaces, be they ritualistic or not. The main issue here is the place of religion in the everyday life of the cities : the Gods were everywhere, "in spaces with little human presence", inside and outside the walls, in urban spaces, in the private sphere but also, and above all in the wild. Here, researchers that specialise in ancient sanctuaries analyse the way the divine is perceived, in all of its forms.

Mary Tome 3 : Un entredeux entre deux ages
Entre roses roses et roses noires, des roses ardentes pour y bruler d'amour. Voici le troisième opus, fait de proses et de chansons dont je rêve entendre sur les ondes magiques, mes paroles misent en musique. Le titre de ce recueil " Un entredeux entre deux âges " est pour marquer la différence d'âge entre Mary et moi et pour situer l'histoire entre les deux premiers tomes. J'ai terminé l'écriture de ce recueil à l'âge de 54 ans. C'est la suite de " Mary, tome 2 : 51 Dans l'eau " mais il peut se lire entre " Mary tome 1 : 50 Ca se tente " et " Mary tome 2 " : 51 Dans l'eau ". Il parle de l'amour de ma vie, de son surnom Cricri, suivi d'une ode la concernant s'intitulant" Paris, Mary, mon amie, mon amour ". Pourquoi Mary ? En fait, un jour où j'étais à me morfondre dans mon lit à ressasser sans cesse que je ne trouverai jamais la bonne personne à aimer, j'ai prié le bon Dieu afin qu'il me vienne en aide pour trouver la femme de ma vie. Et ça a marché ! Quelques jours plus tard en discothèque, je rencontrais Christelle. C'était un don de Dieu, surtout avec un tel prénom. Alors, comme elle est venue du ciel, un peu comme Mary Poppins descend nous rendre visite avec son parapluie, dans cette ode je l'ai appelée Mary. Ce recueil est écrit avec la réforme de la nouvelle orthographe.

This book of Michel Innocent Peya is devoted to the Congo Basin, the second largest reserve in the world : its natural ressources, its mysteries, legal and institutional frameworks, national, subregional and international levels that protect it. The basin of Congo is an African opportunity for the whole world. Its preservation and its protection over time are an action of conscience, will, commitment, determination and sacrifices for the benefit of humanity. Nature cannot be defending alone ; the Congo Basin finds among his children in love with nature a spokesperson or a soulmate in the person of the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou N'Guesso. He is one with nature. This is why, time and time again, he cries out against the abusive and irrational exploitation of the Earth, which is the source of delayed natural disasters, irreversible, and mass destruction : the Bomb "N". Peat bogs constitute for the Congo Basin the largest terrestrial reserve of organic carbon. They store twice as much carbon as other forests in the world. He calls on the conscience of climate hinders, because the peat bog is an essential source of ecological stability, a precious reserve of carbon and the cradle of unique flora and fauna to the world and its survival also requires the integration of local communities' indigenous peoples through sustainable projects. This book is a reference tool for understanding and analyzing the basin of Congo, its natural wealth, its legal and institutional framework, in the dynamics of climate-political leadership and its myriad opportunities for the planet. As a result, the author believes that the achievement of these objectives is dependent on climate-political leadership that the Congo Basin space exerts in the concert nations. As it is said in Africa, one finger cannot wash the whole face.

Studies in Elizabethan Audience Response to the Theatre
The aim of this volume is to give an analytic description of how Elizabethan Spectators in documentary evidence responded to the theatre performances they watched or knew to be about. It also considers why they responded in that way. Opposing dual consciousness to the reification of the character (its 'ideal presence'), the author concludes that Elizabethan spectators were predominantly interested in the characters' 'ideal presence'. Why they were, is explained by relating their statements to the Renaissance theory of visual perception, (demonic) transformation, and ideas on acting.

In Each Child Is My Only One : Lotte Carlebach-Preuss, the Portrait of a Mother and Rabbi's Wife, Miriam Gillis-Carlebach, the daughter of Rabbi Dr. Joseph Zvi Carlebach (1883–1942), last Chief Rabbi of Hamburg and its surroundings, describes her childhood in the lively household of a rabbi's family with nine children, focusing on the special personality of her mother, Lotte Carlebach, née Preuss (1900–1942). The book starts with the history of the Preuss family, goes on to describe the marriage of Lotte to Joseph Carlebach, and portrays in detail their dynamic family life – until their deportation with their four youngest children to a Latvian concentration camp in 1942. The book is composed of two main parts. In the first section the reader learns about the events up to 1938, both inside and outside the Carlebach home ; the second section covers the years 1938–1941, in which there was a lively correspondence mainly between the mother and those of her children who succeeded in emigrating from Nazi Germany. This part concludes with several testimonies portraying the special personalities of Rabbi Carlebach and his wife and their devotion to the unfortunate who benefited from their unbounded assistance and altruism during the Holocaust. Many photographs are included in the book, several of them taken by Lotte Carlebach herself. The book is a unique and personal testimony about Jewish life in Germany during the years of persecution that relentlessly led to the conflagration of the Holocaust.

«Die Welt war meine Gemeinde»- Willem A. Visser ’t Hooft. A Theologian for Europe between Ecumenism and Federalism
Willem A. Visser 't Hooft (1900–1985), Dutch pastor and theologian, was one of the most significant personalities in the Protestant Ecumenical movement. Deeply influenced by Karl Barth, and filled with a strong Ecumenical spirit, he was closely involved in the founding of the World Council of Churches, of which he was elected General Secretary. During the Second World War, many Protestants became convinced of the need for an international political system which, beside uniting the nations and peoples of Europe, would guarantee them fundamental freedoms and mutual respect for their historical, cultural and confessional traditions. The directors of the WWC were strongly committed to federalism, partly because of the political traditions of the states from which their member churches originated (Switzerland ; Great Britain and its Commonwealth ; the United States), and partly because of their conviction that a simple confederation of states, based on the model of the League of Nations, would be completely incapable of containing national ambitions. In spring 1944, Visser 't Hooft welcomed into his Geneva home the representatives of the European Resistance, who, under the leadership of Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi, signed the International Federalist Declaration of the Resistance Movements. These historic transnational encounters, aimed not only at coordinating military action or seeking diplomatic contacts but at exploring ways to "build" peace and re-establish the future of the Continent on new foundations, marked a profound break with the past.

«Phädon», or «On the Immortality of the Soul»
This is the first modern translation of Moses Mendelssohn's classic work of 1767, the Phädon. It includes Mendelssohn's own introduction and appendix, as well as footnotes and explanatory introduction by David Shavin. (Charles Cullen's translation of 1789 is the only other extant translation.) The "modern Socrates" of the German classical period, Mendelssohn has created a beautiful translation and elaboration of Plato's Phädo led to a revolution in thought, and a subsequent renaissance in Germany. The debt of the German classical period to ancient Greece is embodied in Mendelssohn's Phädon, as is the promise of the American Revolution. The translation and accompanying notes recapture Mendelssohn's unique marriage of depth of thought and breadth of appeal.

The Church of Constantinople in the Nineteenth Century
Ivan Sokolov's work, first published in 1904, begins with a balanced overview of the situation of the Orthodox Church under Ottoman rule from the fall of Constantinople (1453) to the beginning of the nineteenth century. The author then gives a detailed description of the external situation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople from 1789 to 1900. This is followed by a discussion of the career and activity of each patriarch during this period, their relations with the bishops, their initiatives in the field of education, their regulations concerning marriage, and their work with parishes and monasteries. The book concludes with a thorough analysis of the administration of the Patriarchate during these years. Although written over a hundred years ago, this classic work has not been superseded. It is based on original sources, particularly on the patriarchal archives, to which few scholars have had access. No other existing study deals with the nineteenth-century Ecumenical Patriarchate in such a systematic and specific way. It constitutes an invaluable tool of reference. Translated from the Russian.

The Search for Meaning in the Australian Novel
This thesis grew out of an epistemological interest centered on the search for meaning in literature, and out of a reading of Australian novels. Reaching beyond signification, the creation of meaning in literature refers to the significance a text acquires for the recipient's existence. The potential of this meaningfulness fluctuates between a process of explanation, of uncovering hidden meaning, and deception. Assuming that this range is best demonstrated in the literary treatment of negative experiences in human existence, of pain and suffering, we analyse how Australian novelists and critics set paradigms of meaning against the "Non-Sense" in experienced reality, who and what the agents of meaningfulness in Australian literature are, how they relate to each other and how they affect our reading experience.

Covenant and Liberation
This book springs from the practical interaction of two absorbing interests : in covenant, thanks to many years of lecturing on the Scriptures, in which covenants provide a sure road from start to finish of the Bible ; and in liberation, an interest sharpened by more than a decade of working in a Lima parish with people struggling desperately to break free from the cycle of poverty, oppression and premature death. Theirs is part of the struggle for liberation throughout Latin America and many other parts of our global home. Reflecting with the poor on their situation in the light of the Scriptures has led to a fuller realization that covenant and liberation are two sides of the same coin - liberation is for covenant, and covenant is to consolidate and promote freedom as befits God's family. First comes a synthesis of the biblical covenants, indicating their continuity but also the unique characteristics of each one. Special attention is paid to the new covenant, often reflected in terms of kingdom, community, family and mutual love. Then it is indicated how new light may be drawn from such a central biblical theme in order to view correctly and share personally in today's liberation struggles.

Les belles moissons de nos grands-parents
Les fêtes des moissons à l'ancienne, qui fleurissent au mois d'août, nous font redécouvrir l'histoire de nos campagnes, celle de nos grands-parents, les années 40-50-60. Epoque d'une vie intense dans les fermes, il fallait beaucoup de bras pour moissonner une parcelle avec les outils de ces années-là, les paysans s'entraidaient dans la chaleur de l'été, de manière à terminer avant le retour de la pluie. The old-fashioned harvest festivals, which take place in August, give us a chance to rediscover the history of our countryside, that of our grandparents in the 40s, 50s and 60s. It was a time of intense life on the farms, when many hands were needed to harvest a plot of land with the tools of those years, and the farmers helped each other in the heat of the summer, so as to finish before the rains returned.

Recueil des sermons dominicaux d'Antoine de Souroge. Monseigneur Antoine était célèbre avant tout pour sa parole, sa prédication évangélique à la fois simple, profonde et accessible à tous. Comme on le sait, Antoine de Souroge parlait sans notes. Il parlait simplement sans chercher à faire de l'esprit ni à attirer l'attention sur lui-même, imitant en cela l'apôtre Paul : "ma parole et ma prédication n'avaient rien des discours persuasifs de la sagesse ; c'était une démonstration d'Esprit et de puissance, pour que votre foi reposât, non sur la sagesse des hommes, mais sur la puissance de Dieu" (1 Cor 2, 4-5). Et en effet, si le discours du Métropolite Antoine produisait de l'effet sur son auditoire, c'est bien parce qu'il reflétait sa propre expérience spirituelle. Ses sermons étaient remplis de l'amour du Christ pour l'homme, ils étaient l'annonce de la Bonne Nouvelle sur la Vie Eternelle.

Ma Terre vue de l'espace
Vue de très haut, la Terre est magnifique. Et plus tu prends du recul, plus elle est belle. Jusqu'à devenir cette boule bleue et fragile dans l'univers que voient les astronautes.
