When the vicar's wife went off with a young and penniless man the scandal knew no bounds. Her two little girls were only seven and nine years old respectively. And the vicar was such a good husband. In the vast silence of their isolation, the traditional Igbos have learnt the ways of living in harmony with nature. From their origin in distant time, they have kept a sacred perspective on the natural world. In our age, there is the need for traditional wisdoms to retain their validity and be intrinsic to our philosophic and scientific perceptions of the cosmos. We cannot do without their knowledge, their spiritual perspective, and their deep faith in the harmony of all nature. Ignoring these qualities has profound environmental implications. Global warming, environmental pollution, and the exhaustion of nature's resources are but a few of the symptoms of the nature's experiences as we continue to mistreat it in order to satisfy our own ends. This work helps us to realise that wherever we are, we are a part of nature. All the things around us are as presences, representing forces and powers of life that are not ours and yet are all part of us. Then we find them reflecting in ourselves, because we are nature, though not identical with it.

Thinking about Physics
Physical scientists are problem solvers. They are comfortable "doing" science: they find problems, solve them, and explain their solutions. Roger Newton believes that his fellow physicists might be too comfortable with their roles as solvers of problems. He argues that physicists should spend more time thinking about physics. If they did, he believes, they would become even more skilled at solving problems and "doing" science. As Newton points out in this thought-provoking book, problem solving is always influenced by the theoretical assumptions of the problem solver. Too often, though, he believes, physicists haven't subjected their assumptions to thorough scrutiny. Newton's goal is to provide a framework within which the fundamental theories of modem physics can be explored, interpreted, and understood.
"Surely physics is more than a collection of experimental results, assembled to satisfy the curiosity of appreciative experts," Newton writes. Physics, according to Newton, has moved beyond the describing and naming of curious phenomena, which is the goal of some other branches of science. Physicists have spent a great part of the twentieth century searching for explanations of experimental findings. Newton agrees that experimental facts are vital to the study of physics, but only because they lead to the development of a theory that can explain them. Facts, he argues, should undergird theory.
Newton's explanatory sweep is both broad and deep. He covers such topics as quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, field theory, thermodynamics, the role of mathematics in physics, and the concepts of probability and causality. For Newton the fundamental entity in quantum theory is the field, from which physicists can explain the particle-like and wave-like properties that are observed in experiments. He grounds his explanations in the quantum field.
Although this is not designed as a standalone textbook, it is essential reading for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and researchers. This is a clear, concise, up-to-date book about the concepts and theories that underlie the study of contemporary physics. Readers will find that they will become better-informed physicists and, therefore, better thinkers and problem solvers, too.

It's a Sunday and often as not, Louise and Arthur go and visit their grandmother. They like to go there, she plays with them and tells them lots of stories. But this Sunday she does not have the time, so the two cousins are bored. They decide to climb up into the attic, where old memorabilia and abandoned objects are stored. They have been there before, but now that they are taller, maybe they will find a treasure they did not see during their last visit. After a long moment of searching, in a corner, Louise discovers a dusty trunk. The two cousins open it and see a sword with an inscription. A discovery that will lead them to the military school at Saint Cyr de Coëtquidan, in the footsteps of their grandfather.

Laurie et la colline aux mirages
Le destin hors du commun de Laurie Moucheron : rescapée de la colline du crack, elle nous raconte, avec une sincérité désarmante, ses années de galère, ses moments les plus extrêmes et surtout sa renaissance grâce à sa force inouïe de caractère. " Laurie a consommé du crack à haute dose pendant quatre ans, au point d'y laisser une partie de son âme et presque sa peau. Arrivée de Belgique à 14 ans, où elle a fui un passé douloureux, elle a vite planté sa tente à la Porte d'Aubervilliers, à la " colline du crack ". Là, elle rencontre des dealers, des toxicos comme elle, des amis aussi. Son quotidien est tout entier dédié à son unique obsession : se procurer plusieurs cailloux de drogue par jour. Pour cela elle est prête à tout. " Le crack, c'est bon. A la première taffe, c'est super bon. C'est le meilleur truc dans ta vie. Et puis après, tu te dis : "Mais putain, mais j'ai fait de la merde ! ' Mais c'est trop tard, tu es déjà dedans. Le crack a été plus fort que tout à ce moment, je me sentais tellement libre. " Dans les moments les plus extrêmes, Laurie écrivait sur des carnets les effets dévastateurs de la drogue, les passes sur le périphérique, mais aussi l'humanité de cette " famille " qu'elle s'était constituée à la " colline ". Aujourd'hui Laurie s'en est sortie, portée par la nécessité d'écrire, un désir puissant d'être maman et grâce à une force inouïe de caractère. Toward a Contextualized Theology for the Third World
This study traces the origin of Jesus' Name Pentecostalism in Mexico to determine its distinctives as a Mexican movement. The movement has historically been called "Jesus Only" or "Oneness". While focusing on the Iglesia Apostólica de la Fe en Cristo Jesús, Iglesia Evangélica Cristiana Espiritual, La Luz del Mundo, and El Buen Pastor are briefly discussed. The Oneness doctrine of the Trinity is examined to determine its adequacy as a trinitarian theological model. The assertion is made that Western Christianity must accept and promote the use of alternative theological models in non-Western contexts in order to assist the Christians of the Third World to develop meaningful contextualized theology for their own cultures.

Arrival of Mira Foreword Arrival of Mira tells the story of a beautiful young woman who held true to her faith despite many severe hardships. Mira was still only a child when she decided that Ginidhara Gopal (Lord Krishna) was her 'husband' and that she wanted to devote her life to serving and worshipping him. Later, the now orphaned Mira was married to Bhojan, the prince of Mewar and son of Rana, the king of Chittoor. Bhojan fell in love at first sight but found it hard to understand Mira's utter devotion to Ginidhara. Mira suffered at the hands of her in-laws who could not understand the depth of her love for Ginidhara and wanted her to follow their worship of Kali (in the form of Durga). Mira suffered imprisonment in a haunted palace and then exile for her beliefs. Even her friends were persecuted because of her uncompromising love for Lord Krishna. Eventually Bhojan came to understand his wife's piety. The story is told in the form of a musical play where the love story is interwoven with delightful songs and dances. The character of Mira is one to win the hearts of all who read of her. Her gentle devotion and steadfast belief are an inspiration to everyone. From brutal Nazi killers to Hanukkah heroes in the 'hood, tough Jews refute images of doomed Holocaust victims, wandering Jews of exile before them, and the post-war ‘nice Jewish boys' who followed. They foster belligerent responses to polemics of fear and self-hatred, and as such, materialize as a challenge for postmodern cultural identity. A Culture of Tough Jews reframes the tough Jew as an enduring act of rhetorical regeneration by reifying a related figure, the vital Jew. As corrective to the tough Jew, the vital Jew encourages robust cultural production and dialogue. For audiences of rhetoric and cultural studies, the book offers critical and theoretical study of rhetorical regeneration, including original constructs of postmodern blackface and transformative performativity, as a resource for contemporary rhetorical invention. It also constitutes a case study for the postmodern critique of identity by invoking concerns of (post)assimilation, gender and power, and the social construction of race, ethnicity, class, and power to advance conversations on fractious cultural exigencies. On a complex manifold X, let M he a coherent Dx-module and F an IR-mnstruc-tible sheaf. The complex RHompx (M, RHom(F, Ox)) is the complex of solutions of the system of PDE represented by M in the sheaf of generalized holomorphic functions associated to F. A natural problem is to find conditions under which such a complex has finite dimensional global cohomology and then to compute the corresponding Euler-Poincaré characteristic. We prove the finiteness theorem when (M, F) has compact support and is "elliptic", i.e. : char(M) n SS(F) C TxX where char(M) is the characteristic variety of M, SS(F) is the micro-support of F and TxX is the zero section of the cotangent bundle. In fact, we give a relative version of this finiteness result together with the associated duality theorem and Künneth formula. Our methods rely upon results of functional analysis over a .sheaf of Fréchet algebras obtained by one of the authors. Next, we attach a "microloeal Order class" µeu(M, F) E H2dx char M+SSF (T X ; D) to any elliptic pair (M, F) and prove that, under natural assumptions, this class is compatible with direct images, inverse images and external products. In particular, we get the index formula : X(RP(X ; RHom(M x F ; Ox))) = f yeu(M, F) T2xx (M) = fTX yeu (M) U yeu (F). When F = CM and X is a complexification of the real analytic manifold M, our salts for the pair (M, F) give an index theorem for elliptic systems and we discuss its relations with the Ariyah-Singer theorem.

Loic Carlier a participé à la renaissance de l'Aviation Civile légère, dès la fin de la dernière guerre. Il a participé à de nombreuses compétitions nationales et internationales, ce qui lui a permis de suivre l'évolution du matériel français aussi bien que des pilotes, qu'ils soient privés ou professionnels. Dans ce recueil de souvenirs, l'auteur surtout voulu transmettre le plaisir et les émotions intenses qu'il a ressenti out au long de ces années. L'auteur : Issu d'une famille modeste, orphelin de père à cinq ans, Loïc Carlier a eu la chance d'être élevé par une mère exigeante qui a veillé à sa formation. Pharmacie comme boursier, longues années de piano, Loïc Carlier avait également une propension à l'évasion et au rêve qui l'ont conduit à se passionner dès l'enfance pour le ciel et l'aviation, soit cinquante-six années de licences dont l'IFR, et un parcours très varié dans la discipline : président d'un important aéro-club de l'Ouest parisien, organisateur de manifestations aériennes, engagé dans l'humanitaire, etc. jusqu'à la sage décision d'arrêter de voler en tant que pilote en 2006, décision qu'il dit " n'avoir jamais regrettée ". The Sagho djebel is the eastern extension of the Anti-Atlas, a volcanic mountain with granitic mamelons, basaltic organs, chaos of black shales, pink sandstones... at the gates of the Sahara. As far as the eye can see, large wild, arid spaces. A desolate land made for the lonely DPM. And for a thousand miles around, silence is the only companion. Absolute plenitude and the desire to take to the track. From flat expanses to rolling hills, from sharp relief to steep canyons : pure, original nature. The character is strong, rustic but the heart is soft. The colours are soft and gentle. Ochre, pink, brown, violet, the colour chart stretches in a gradation of shimmering pastels, sometimes accompanied by an overwhelming heat. Eldorado in the heart of the desert, rare are the oases ; modest green spots in the infinitely large, they are the reminders that we are on African soil. The wild charm of the Sagho is due to its exceptional geology : high cliffs and steep peaks, tabular escarpments and deep canyons in the middle of which caravans of camels and mules circulate. When you arrive on these immense plateaus, the lunar horizon is so vast that you want to go everywhere at once to see if it is really as beautiful elsewhere ! The Sagho also surprises by the richness of its lights : limpid like those of the nearby Sahara, or sometimes in half-tone, as in the neighbouring Dades valley. The Sagho is also the Morocco of the last Berber nomads, descendants of the ancient lords Aït Atta. In autumn, after leaving the snows of the High Atlas, they set up their dark wool tents on the slopes of the jebel until spring. They can neither read nor write, but they are sure of their way through the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan desert. In the Sagho, they have built houses of unbaked stone, dug wells, planted almond trees, grown wheat, barley and various vegetables. Others built herds of goats and sheep, and caravans of camels.
