A Bulls Mouth, Texas, quand on fait le 911, on tombe directement sur le Bureau du shérif. Collé derrière le central, son adjoint Ian passe ses journées à jouer aux cartes sur l'écran de son ordinateur tout en répondant aux rares appels d'urgence. Ce jour-là, il lui reste une heure à tirer quand il reçoit un coup de fil un peu spécial. "Je vous en prie, aidez-moi !" Ça fait sept ans qu'il n'a pas entendu sa voix, alors au début il ne la reconnaît pas. Pourtant c'est bien elle. Sa petite fille l'appelle au secours. Elle a réussi à s'échapper et à trouver une cabine téléphonique. Mais la conversation est brutalement écourtée. Son ravisseur vient de lui remettre la main dessus. Il n'a à peu près rien : une description sommaire du kidnappeur et la localisation de la cabine, où un combiné doit se balancer au vent. Mais à peu près rien, c'est déjà quelque chose, et il ne laissera pas Maggie disparaître une seconde fois. Alors il prend son SIG Sauer, grimpe dans sa Mustang 1965 et part à sa recherche. Du Texas à la Californie, il enfile l'Interstate 10 à tombeau ouvert sur la trace du monstre qui lui a volé sa vie.

This beautifully illustrated catalogue presents a selection of exceptional seventeenth-century Dutch drawings from the Peck Collection in the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The collection was donated to the museum in 2017 by the late Drs. Sheldon and Leena Peck. Les jours se suivent et se ressemblent pour Hachiman. Pas d'amis, pas de petite copine, bref, une vie lycéenne de parfait solitaire. C'était du moins ce à quoi il aspirait, mais c'était sans compter ce désagréable et inhabituel sentiment d'inconfort qui l'assaille soudainement. Sentiment qu'il doit sans doute au départ de Yuigahama qui a décidé de s'éloigner du club. Que ce soit Yukino ou Hachiman, aucun ne possède les compétences nécessaires pour résoudre habilement la situation et les ratés se succèdent. Le rencard doux-amer de Totsuka, les lamentations pathétiques de Zaimokuza, une facette inattendue de Mlle Hiratsuka... Et une partie de strip-Président ? ! Alors que tous semblent ne prendre que de mauvaises décisions, le Club des Volontaires arrivera-t-il à retrouver son paisible quotidien ?

Malheureusement pour lui, aucune romance ne semble pointer le bout de son nez, même s'il est affublé de ses deux magnifiques compagnes, Yukinoshita et Yuigahama.

De toute façon, sa situation actuelle ne le pousse guère à déborder d'optimisme : pas d'amis, pas de petite amie et sa capacité à envisager l'avenir est totalement nulle. Pour le faire changer, sa conseillère d'orientation l'oblige à rejoindre le "Club des Volontaires" qui vise à aider les lycéens à résoudre leurs problèmes et à réaliser leurs désirs. Néanmoins, ses ennuis ne font que commencer : dans la foulée, il apprend qu'il doit coopérer avec Yukino, une élève aussi brillante que sarcastique et antipathique. La rencontre de ces deux lycéens aux caractères si différents risque de créer des étincelles.

This book gives a progress report on the many and original contributions of radiation chemistry to the fundamental knowledge of the vast domain of chemical reactions and its applications. Mediation - A Necessary Element in Family Dispute Resolution?
Mediation as a method of alternative dispute resolution is gaining increased attention in a growing number of legal areas. In Australian law family counselling was developed to deal with issues related to family disputes. It is brought in prior to court settlement of disputes and thus integrated into the system of conflict resolution. The characteristics and use of alternative dispute resolution call into question the role of the court as the sole forum for institutionalised conflict resolution. For this reason the transferability of the concept of mediation into the German legal system needs to be examined. In particular, it needs to be measured against the yardstick of the German Constitution, which by granting basic substantive and procedural rights, sets out the demands a modern state of law makes on a method of conflict resolution.

Logic: Mathematics, Language, Computer Science and Philosophy
In Logic Programming (25 and 26) the language of logic is used as a declarative programming language. Prolog uses resolution as its underlying proof mechanism. The logical structure of relational databases is explained (27) in set theoretical terms and it is shown how the language of set theory can be used as a Structured Query Language (SQL). Computability, Undecidability and Complexity are treated in sections 28, 29, and 30, respectively, in terms of Turing machines. The undecidability of the validity problem for predicate logic and the NP-completeness of the satisfiability problem for propositional logic are shown in a similiar way. Chomsky's notion of grammar and its relation to the notion of automation is presented in section 31. Both untyped and typed lambda calculus are treated in sections 32 and 33, respectively. The role epistemic logic can play in the description of distributed systems is explained (34). In section 35 and 36, temporal logic is used both for verification by hand and for automatic verification. A tableaux-based automated theorem prover for classical logic is elaborated in the Appendix. Each section ends with a number of exercises ; the answers can be found at the end of this book.

Frank Auerbach. The Charcoal Heads
Accompanying an exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery, London, Frank Auerbach : The Charcoal Heads presents a remarkable series of hauntingly beautiful largescale drawings by the artist. The catalogue includes a new piece of writing on one of the drawings from critically acclaimed novelist Colm Tóibín. This catalogue explores one of Frank Auerbach's most remarkable bodies of work - a series of large-scale portrait heads made in charcoal, produced during his early years as a young artist in postwar London. Auerbach (b. 1931) spent months on each drawing, working and reworking them during numerous sessions with his sitters. This prolonged and vigorous process of creation is evident in the finished drawings, which are richly textured and layered. Auerbach would sometimes even break through the paper and patch it up before carrying on. His heads thus emerge from the darkness of the charcoal with burning vitality, born of an artistic as well as a physical struggle with the medium. The process of repeated creation and destruction, of which these images bear the visible scars, speaks profoundly of their times, as people rebuilt their lives after the ruination and upending of the war. The exhibition will be the first time Auerbach's extraordinary drawings, made in the 1950s and early 1960s, have been brought together as a comprehensive group. They will be shown together with a selection of paintings he made of the same sitters ; for the artist, painting and drawing have always been deeply entwined. The accompanying catalogue - by Deputy Head of The Courtauld Gallery, Barnaby Wright, and with an essay by one of the greatest contemporary voices in the English language, Colm Tóibín - is the first publication to explore in depth this magnificent series. Tóibín spent several hours one afternoon in front of Auerbach's Self-Portrait (1958), which features on the front cover of the book, looking closely and taking notes. His essay is an account of his experience and offers new insights into the work and the nature of self-portaiture.

Amour, loyauté, jalousie, trahison - Days Gone By est un conte épique, l'histoire de deux jeunes amoureux pris au piège des contraintes sociales de leur époque.
