Ce volume rassemble des articles de romanistes et germanistes de divers horizons afin d'évaluer comment les nouvelles technologies peuvent améliorer notre connaissance de la variation dialectale, en Europe et au-delà. Les articles de la première moitié du volume portent sur le développement de cartes géolinguistiques à l'aide de nouveaux outils numériques. De nombreux projets sont basés sur des travaux existants mais certains ajoutent des données nouvellement recueillies aux ressources déjà existantes. Les articles de la seconde moitié du volume traitent de nouveaux projets numériques entièrement basés sur des données originales récemment collectées, dont beaucoup visent des objectifs spécifiques tels que l'étude de la variation syntaxique, du nivellement dialectal ou du traitement automatique du langage naturel. This volume brings together articles from Romance and Germanic dialectologists with diverse backgrounds in order to evaluate how new technologies can enhance our knowledge of dialectal variation in Europe and beyond. The articles in the first half focus on the development of geolinguistic maps using new digital tools. Many projects are based on existing works, but some add newly collected data to the already existing resources. The articles in the second half deal with new digital projects entirely based on recently collected original data, many of which are aimed at specific goals, such as the study of syntactic variation, dialect levelling, or natural language processing.

This book offers a significant, original and timely contribution to the study of one of the most important and notorious Latin American authors of the twentieth century : Reinaldo Arenas. The text engages with the many extraordinary intersections created between Arenas' writing, the autobiographical construction of the literary subject and the exilic condition. Through focusing on texts written on the island of Cuba and in exile, the author analyses the ways in which Arenas' writing emblemises a complex process of identification with, and rejection of, his homeland – always an imagined place and which is, as the place of his origins, intrinsically related to the maternal. She examines how the maternal and the motherland are conflated and how the narrator-protagonists' identification is always in relation to, and dependent upon, this dominant motif. The book also explores the extent to which Arenas' writing is a tortuous attempt to escape from this dominance and to free himself and his writing from the ties that bind him to the mother and the motherland, and shows that Arenas suffered the exilic condition long before his move to the United States in 1980 as part of the Mariel exodus.

Critical attempts to evaluate Kleist's fictional world, e.g. as ordered or disordered, accessible or resistant to reason, face a hermeneutic problem : the material and psychological embeddedness of the characters in the very world they seek to understand. This problem is reflected not only in the less-than-omniscient perspective of Kleist's narrators, but also in the reader's confrontation with competing readings of events in terms of mythic absolutes and with the opaquely concrete quality of spatial metaphors. In this light, three new interpretations offer insight into such problems as the nature of the idyll in "Das Erdbeben in Chili," the Marquise von O...'s creative self-imprisonment, and the gypsy's apparently supernatural intervention in Kohlhaas' quest. Finally, the book presents a dynamic typology of spatial phenomena in the stories which accounts for Kleist's concern with the interpretive process as opposed to its presumed endpoint.

The Reception of Grabbe's Hannibal in the German Theatre
After publication in 1835, Grabbe's Hannibal was overlooked by the theatre until this century. Because the drama does not lend itself easily to stage production, a number of adaptations were printed : these are analysed and their merits and shortcomings evaluated. The history of all productions is then viewed against the background of Germany's political and cultural history from 1918 to 1958, examining in detail the approaches of such producers as Jessner, Martin, Schmitt and Schalla and their audience impact. This analysis in turn sheds light on essential qualities of Hannibal.

Thackeray and the Problem of Realism
Although it is traditional to see a certain kind of "realism" as the essence of fiction, in practice novels of course offer not a simple reproduction of experience but a throughgoing organization of it. The novel is, after all, a bourgeois genre and it reflects that bourgeois view of life according to which the world is there merely to be dominated and controlled by man. This study examines both Thackeray's early fiction, in which both the novel form and the manipulative society to which it belongs are attacked, and his later works, in which they are defended, and tries to determine the reasons for this change.

The objects of cultural transfers are innumerable. Their study is particularly important to understanding the medieval Norman worlds and their multiple interconnections with the Scandinavian world, the British Isles, Eastern Europe, and the Mediterranean. While examining the processes of transmission, reception, adaptation, adoption, or rejection, this book highlights how these dynamics influenced cultures between the eighth and twelfth centuries. Various examples of both material (embroidery ; clothing accessories ; iron artefacts ; coins ; manuscripts ; funeral monuments ; sculptures, etc.) and immaterial objects (craftsmanship ; literary models ; language ; religious and burial practices ; ideology of power ; oath-taking, etc.) are studied, including some emblematic ‘monuments' of the Norman worlds (the Bayeux Tapestry ; the mosaics on the floor of Otranto Cathedral). Particular attention is given to presenting these objects in a context in which their reinterpretation in different socio-cultural environments could be better understood. The book also questions the role and the significance of the actors of cultural transfers (aristocratic elites ; churchmen ; merchants ; craftsmen ; authors ; copyists ; etc.), considering their status or their function, as well as their aptitude to carry transfers. It sheds light on relations and networks that have been thus far relatively unknown, and on the circulation of models that consists of a multitude of objects and productions. Finally, it contributes to the exploration of the contacts between different populations and the construction of their interactions.

Livre de photographie / 85 photos N&B / texte FR-EN Le but de ce projet photographique est d'enquêter à travers les différentes couches sociales, afin de proposer un aperçu de la vie en Bosnie-Herzégovine, cent ans après l'attentat de Sarajevo (assassinat de l'archiduc d'Autriche Franz Ferdinand et de sa femme Sophie, le 28 juin 1914), qui fut le prétexte au lancement de la Première Guerre Mondiale et en quelque sorte, le point de départ du vingtième siècle. The aim of this photo project is to investigate through the different social layers to offer an overview of life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a hundred years after the assassination of Sarajevo (Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, were shot down on 28, June 1914), which was a pretext for the launch of the First World War and in a way, was the starting point of the 20th century.

A moins que vous aimiez commencer un livre par la dernière page. Dans ce cas, faites-vous plaisir ! Après avoir vu disparaitre au loin la camionnette et sa nouvelle famille, Peter était sûr qu'il ne les reverrait jamais plus. Mais parfois la chance est au rendez-vous. Et maintenant, il est prêt à aller retrouver son clan. Sauf que parfois, aussi, la chance n'est pas au rendez-vous. Et parfois, la seule issue, c'est de croire dur comme fer que tout ira bien, même dans les situations les plus inextricables. "I was consumed by this series for 3 days and could not put them down ! I have to say I really did not like Peter in the beginning of Until the End of the World but he definitely grew on me. . kind of like mold. When he stayed behind to save his friends, he redeemed himself in my eyes and I even cried for him. Of course, I was stunned and elated when he showed back up at the end of the book. So Long, Lollipops is a great novella about everything Peter went through during his time away from his misfit family. I love Sarah's ability to weave a story and make you feel like you are smack dab in the middle of the action. This book was definitely a nice addition the the series and I highly recommend it ! The German Effect on D.H. Lawrence and his Works 1885-1912
This study analyzes in depth the German effect upon D.H. Lawrence and his works from his birth in 1885 to his departure from England in 1912. German literary, philosophical and musical works had considerable impact on Lawrence's formation as an artist. They also influenced the creation of his own literary theory, entering his life concurrently with the three problems of class, woman and religion, which evolved into his major literary themes. The German effect is thus demonstrated to be the confirmation of Lawrence's strong tendency toward subjectivism in literary art : it strengthened his conviction that his art set him apart from all classes of society ; it encouraged the development of his view of women as the sexual, not the maternal, mediatrix to art ; and it fortified his denial of traditional Christianity and assisted his creation of his personal vitalistic creed.

Canonical Marriage Preparation in the Igbo Tradition in the Light of Canon 1063 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law
The Igboman who embraces Christianity wants to remain a Christian without rejecting his Igbo identity and culture. In view of this, there is an urgent need to foster and promote marriage preparation in Igboland as a way of rediscovering the Christian and traditional values of marriage as an institution. This aims at providing the ambience and opportunity for prospective couples to establish successful marriages and their stability in Igboland. In this regard, as an implementation to its renewed meaning and understanding of marriage, the Church recognizes the necessity for effective and adequate marriage preparation and pastoral care of marriage. The study attempts to give the influence of theological and canonical enrichments in the meaning and understanding of the matrimonial sacrament upon the legal provisions, guidelines and programs for marriage preparation in the Igbo dioceses of Nigeria.

Experiencing Same-Sex Marriage
This book provides an understanding of how the legal and cultural debates and advances and limitations on same-sex marriage are experienced by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) people, same-sex couples, and their social networks. Using data collected from hundreds of GLBT people, same-sex couples, and their social networks over the past decade, the book examines the following topics : same-sex marriages' impact on how GLBT individuals view their relationships and community ; same-sex couples' decision making regarding whether to marry or not ; the interactions between same-sex couples and members of their families-of-origin regarding same-sex marriage ; the same-sex marriage experiences of understudied members of the GLBT community ; and the interactions between same-sex couples and members of their social networks in locations with restrictions against legally recognized same-sex marriage. These findings are examined through the lens of the social scientific study of relationships. They are based on a communication studies perspective on personal relationships, and therefore emphasize communication concepts and theories relevant to the understanding of same-sex marriage experiences.
