Here, Quijote appears devoid of all heroism and greatness : he is a man contemplating his downfall at the end of his life. Le diagnostic de Macdonald tranche avec l'atmosphère optimiste d'après guerre, alimentée par la victoire des Alliés sur le IIIe Reich, par l'euphorie qui gagne une partie de la gauche du fait du prestige acquis par l'URSS, et les succès électoraux de la social-démocratie à l'Ouest. Sur l'obsolescence du clivage droite-gauche, sur l'impérialisme de la méthode scientifique et de la technique moderne, sur la prolifération du phénomène bureaucratique au sein même du capitalisme dit libéral, cet auteur est d'une clairvoyance exemplaire.

The décor, which also includes the wall color as well as the flooring and ceiling, is another basic element that should be carefully considered in small spaces. Decorative elements are just as important, as they can be used to create a personal feel that responds to your own particular aesthetic taste. What you must remember is that, even though a home is small, there are many solutions and tricks to maximize its possibilities and achieve a modern, welcoming look.

Mike Evans signe ici une biographie (très richement) illustrée, de référence, sur un groupe de rock anglais mythique : The Who. Emené par Roger Daltrey, le guitariste Pete Townshend, les regrettés John Entwistle (bassiste) et Keith Moon (batteur, réputé "mauvais garçon"), le groupe fait ses débuts en 1964 et est encore actif aujourd'hui, après bien des péripéties. La biographie est chronologique et les illustrations présentent les nombreux concerts de légende, enregistrements, vie privée, répétitions, couvertures d'albums, tickets de concert, destructions d'instruments, rencontres avec Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger... Le format est de 21, 5 x 27, 5 cm pour 240 pages et environ 175 illustrations.

Ed the happy clown
A l'été 1982, se mettant lui-même au défi de produire plus de pages, Chester Brown improvise des histoires. Sa compagne l'encourage à publier ces planches sous forme de fanzine. Le premier numéro de Yummy Fur paraît en juillet 1983. C'est dans ces pages que naît Ed, personnage lunaire et naïf, entre Harry Langdon et Little Orphan Annie. Ce clown malchanceux subit les pires indignités. Il est enfoui sous une montagne de merde, voit son gland remplacé par la tête d'un Ronald Reagan improbable... Ses aventures mêlent macabre et scatologie, horreur et science-fiction, sexe et religion, fiction et autobiographie. Brown fait feu de tout bois, adopte l'imagerie catholique, tout en ridiculisant l'homophobie et mettant en scène vampires et savants fous. Sans surprise, son refus de l'auto-censure lui vaut d'être accusé de perpétuer des stéréotypes racistes ou sexistes. Le livre est en réalité un véritable OVNI, burlesque, jouissif et profondément dérangeant. En 1989, Chester retravaille ce serial déjanté pour le transformer en "roman graphique". Puis il le modifie à nouveau en 2005 et en 2012 pour aboutir à cette version définitive qui, grâce à ses notes inédites donne un extraordinaire aperçu du processus créatif de l'auteur. Ed the Happy Clown ne sera pas le Tintin de Chester Brown, qui l'abandonne à son sort et met en avant Josie et Chet, les amants tragiques, dont la fin révèle soudain un univers plus proche des Louvin Brothers que de Charles Schulz.

C'est une journée qui ne se termine pas bien pour le cowboy solitaire. A court de tabac, arrivé sous une pluie battante dans la petite ville minière de Froggy Town, il est vite pris à partie par deux des frères Bone, tristement célèbres localement. L'affaire se règle sans dégâts, mais la réputation de Luke le précède, et quand les habitants lui demandent d'enquêter sur un hold-up à la place du sheriff - James Bone - l'ambiance devient encore plus tendue ...

I did not intend to write a scholarly book, for I did not want to intellectualize my life. Nor did I wish to romanticize it. I wanted to describe it as I lived it, with emphasis on people. I wanted to express in this book the joy I experienced in giving generously of myself, my time, and my modest material possessions, to make others happy and to share the many gifts of life. I wanted also to share with those who aspire to become academic leaders the myriad lessons my upbringing, education, and professional life have taught me. I thought they might find these lessons learned useful, as they strive for successful careers and, more importantly, for rewarding personal and professional lives. Again, this book is a story, the story of my life, wherein the personal and the professional have intermingled and strengthened each other, making a better whole of my person, personality, aspirations, and talents. This unique alliance between the professional and the personal dimensions of my life, I am happy to say, always triumphed and accounted for the successes that so many good people helped me achieve. Without the guidance, advice, cooperation, and support of others, I am sure my life would not have been as fulfilling.

Arrival of Mira, Love story between Bhojan and Mira
Arrival of Mira Foreword Arrival of Mira tells the story of a beautiful young woman who held true to her faith despite many severe hardships. Mira was still only a child when she decided that Ginidhara Gopal (Lord Krishna) was her 'husband' and that she wanted to devote her life to serving and worshipping him. Later, the now orphaned Mira was married to Bhojan, the prince of Mewar and son of Rana, the king of Chittoor. Bhojan fell in love at first sight but found it hard to understand Mira's utter devotion to Ginidhara. Mira suffered at the hands of her in-laws who could not understand the depth of her love for Ginidhara and wanted her to follow their worship of Kali (in the form of Durga). Mira suffered imprisonment in a haunted palace and then exile for her beliefs. Even her friends were persecuted because of her uncompromising love for Lord Krishna. Eventually Bhojan came to understand his wife's piety. The story is told in the form of a musical play where the love story is interwoven with delightful songs and dances. The character of Mira is one to win the hearts of all who read of her. Her gentle devotion and steadfast belief are an inspiration to everyone.
