The future impact of the churches on the societies in which they are situated depends on how they are experienced as healing and solidarizing communities (concerning their religious and social praxis) within themselves and to the outside. Exactly this is the question of the diaconical dimension of the church : the question of how much love (in terms of mercy and justice) and freedom (to the individual and to society) are being spread by the churches in this world. Theologically this book refers not only to the biblical foundations but also to the latest theology of the II Vatican Council (and of the appropriate understanding of the term "Evangelization") within the Catholic Church, without suggesting that this theological position is something exclusive in the ecumenical sphere. It rather may support similar theologies emerging from other churches, as a kind of offer to solidarize with each other looking for the possibilities of substantiating the Christian faith.

Learning GLIM will almost certainly change the way you do statistics. The flexibility and generality of the GLIM language encourage a different approach to statistical analysis, which stresses parameter estimation and model criticism rather than hypothesis testing. The GLIM package can handle most of the models that ecologists are likely to fit to their data, including log-linear models of count data using Poisson errors, logistic regression of proportion data using binomial errors, and a wide variety of models for the analysis of survival data. It also allows an extremely general approach to more familiar procedures such as analysis of variance, multiple regression and the analysis of contingency tables.
The book provides a practical approach to learning the rationale and methods of linear modelling, starting from absolute basics and progressing in simple steps to cover the critical analysis of experimental and observational data. Minimal background in mathematics or statistical theory is assumed, and the book is aimed at all ecologists front students to experienced researchers. Statistical modelling in GLIM is introduced through an extensive series of ecological examples, where graphical display, model criticism, model simplification, plots of residuals and tests of assumptions about error specification are explained in full. The reader is encouraged to work through examples while sitting at a computer, and all of the necessary data, along with numerous exercises and fully worked answers, are provided on a disk supplied at the back of the book.
GLIM for Ecologists is not a statistical recipe book; it informs and educates on the proper use of statistics in ecology, on experimental design and on how to get the most out of your data. Learning GLIM Will certainly bc worth the effort. It's not a question of finding out how to do the same old tests in yet another new statistics package. On the contrary, it involves mastering a powerful set of tools that were originally developed for professional statisticians, but which are now accessible to ecologists through the simple step-by-step approach adopted in this book.

A linguistic picture of women's position in society
A discussion of English and Polish gender systems, generic words, forms of address, referring expressions and other topics, provides evidence that in these two languages males and females are not treated equally. The main concern of this book is linguistic sexism. Unresolved questions of style are aggravated by physical irregularities in the facade, particularly the figured frieze, that have been attributed to a change of plan. Inconsistencies in individual frieze reliefs have been ignored or interpreted solely according to that theory. The scope of these inconsistencies and their import to the frieze and facade chronology are studied.

Sous ces prémisses, la Théorie de l'agir communicationnel tente de poursuivre l'élaboration de quatre thèmes de la pensée post-métaphysique. " Par l'esquisse d'une pragmatique formelle, je voudrais radicaliser le tournant linguistique qui, depuis Frege, ainsi que dans le structuralisme, ne fut accompli qu'au prix d'abstractions inadéquates. " Par les concepts complémentaires de monde vécu et d'agir communicationnel, j'entends donner tout son sérieux à cette mise en situation de la raison qui, de Dilthey à Sartre et Merleau-Ponty en passant par Heidegger, ne fut accomplie que dans la dépendance à l'égard de la philosophie de la conscience. Une raison incarnée dans l'agir communicationnel permet d'appréhender l'ensemble dialectique que composent l'ouverture langagière au monde et les procès d'apprentissage dans le monde. " En analysant la base de validité des discours, je voudrais surmonter le logocentrisme qui a marqué effectivement la tradition occidentale. L'ontologie était fixée sur l'étant en sa totalité, la philosophie de la conscience, sur le sujet qui se représente des objets, et l'analyse du langage, sur le discours constatant des faits, et par là, sur le primat de la proposition assertorique. On peut dissiper cette étroitesse de vue sans que la raison en tant que telle s'en trouve dénoncée. " Sur cette voie, on peut prendre congé du concept d'Absolu mais également de la pensée totalisante de la philosophie de la réflexion s'incluant elle-même avec le monde (Kant, Hegel).
