Ce roman est le récit de plusieurs destins croisés, au lendemain de la guerre de 14 puis dans les années 20. Marcel, dit Cellou, a installé sa petite vie tranquille à Limoges. Parti de peu, il est à présent à la tête d'un magasin de vêtements qui a pignon sur rue. Germaine, elle, est une jeune fille mue par la soif de vivre, ouverte au changement et à la nouveauté. Engagée au sein d'une petite troupe de théâtre médiocre, elle est embarquée dans une tournée improbable depuis la Bretagne jusqu'en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Pour tous ceux qu'elle croise, elle incarne une sorte de liberté un peu folle à laquelle ils n'avaient, pour la plupart, jamais goûté. Est-elle un rêve, un fantasme pour sédentaires frileux, pantouflards frustrés ? Les chemins de Cellou et Germaine, personnages aux parcours opposés, finiront par se fondre d'une manière inattendue, l'un vivant l'aventure de l'autre par procuration.

Tangos, like ragtimes and waltzes, are an integral part of Elena Kats-Chernin's music, always in a new and varied form. In it, the composer allusively combines her present time with the classical tradition and high art with light music. Slicked Back Tango was originally composed in 1995 for piano four hands and has since been written for numerous other instrumentations. The music "harks back to the time of silent movies. I was thinking of the 1920s and film star Rudolph Valentino. The title refers to his hairstyle", says Kats-Chernin. Instrumentation : cello and piano

Ten Songs for Cello and Piano
These ten arrangements are a welcome addition to Rachmaninoff's small but significant output of original works for cello and piano. Klaus Simon comments that Rachmaninoff's songs are some of the most beautiful in the whole repertoire and especially suitable for cello. The instrument's sound is so flexible and beautiful for melody, and with its warm sound and potential for intense vibrato and tasteful portamenti it is ideally suited to the task. The order of this edition is a suggestion by the arranger which has worked very well in concerts ; performers should feel free to choose their own combination. Instrumentation : cello and piano

To mark the 100th birthday of Ursula Mamlok (1923 - 2016), Boosey & Hawkes Bote & Bock, in collaboration with the Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Foundation, is publishing a series of works from the composer's estate that were not published during her lifetime. Alariana, composed in 1985, is in many respects a "typical Mamlok" : The mixed instrumentation of winds and strings in distant registers makes for a transparent sound, the movement is airily polyphonic, and the five aphoristically short movements, together lasting about seven minutes, follow classical movement types in a contrastful alternation of characters. Of particular charm are a passacaglia over ostinato bassoon staccatos in the middle section of the fourth movement and the quiet ending of the fifth movement. The work consists of a single movement subdivided into several sections representing the vision experienced by Don Quijote on his deathbed. The energetic and confused rhythm in the initial part of the composition is succeeded by moments of intensive grand drama before coming to a close in an atmosphere of despair, an almost nihilistic vision of Don Quijote himself who is doomed to continuing failure. Here, Quijote appears devoid of all heroism and greatness : he is a man contemplating his downfall at the end of his life. His feelings of pain and fruitless struggles take centre stage : this is the Quijote whom we will all experience at the end of our days. Pedro Halffter Instrumentation : cello
