The Biblical understanding of "divine-human friendship" is developed by the Fourth Evangelist as a "master-disciple relationship" by employing the term "philos". This term emphasizes both divine initiative and human response as the constitutive elements of such a relationship. This book is an exegetico-theological study of "philos", which analyzes the implications of the term for the Johannine theology of friendship between Jesus and the believers.

"Friendship and Love in the Middle English Metrical Romances" groups together a representative cross-section of the genre, according to variants of love relationships, and to ideas of friendship. The horizontal and the vertical structure of the relatonship are tripartite. The horizontal stages are attraction, separation-testing-trial, and reunion, the vertical spheres are the personal, social/political, and religious. All relationships fail into two types, the restorative-concordant and the innovative-discordant. These are defined by the relative position of the partners in the social-political sphere of their relationship. The groups of relationship are defined by the initially more active partner : forward heroine, fairy mistress, forward hero, mutual love, married love ; friendship, lords and retainers. Surveys of the Insular understanding of courtly love, and of Caxton's prose romances, complement the findings.

Scripts and Communication for Relationships
Over 200 years ago, Jane Austen, an astute observer of the rituals of late-eighteenth-century courtship wrote that a happy marriage was the result of chance. Modern relationship researchers have revealed that scripts concerning pair bonding rituals are actually constituted in a manner so as to leave little to chance when romantic attachments are formed, intensify, and sometimes dissolve. In this introductory text, the authors discuss the basis of relationship scripts, emotions, imagery, and physiology of relationships including romance, friendship, work associates, mentors, and Facebook friends. They argue that people's expectations for relational development influence their communication, faith, and commitment in relationships. Misconstruing sexual or flirtatious intent, for example, is derived from having different scripts about attraction. The book also discusses abusive relationships including characteristics of abusers, stalking, and verbal and physical aggression. Designed for classes in communication and relationships, interpersonal communication, intrapersonal communication, and communication and cognition, as well as across disciplines in psychology, sociology, family studies, and social work, this text provides a comprehensive overview of how scripts and communication are used in relationships. German-Irish Corporate Relationships
The book addresses the question of whether, in an age of internationalisation and globalisation, cultural differences are still relevant to German-Irish corporate relationships ? The first three chapters establish the theoretical framework for the analysis by exploring the notion of culture, profiling the business cultures of both countries, and examining existing approaches to the study of parent company-foreign subsidiary relationships. In the following three chapters, using interviews carried out with two sample groups (fifteen German parent companies and fourteen of their Irish operations ; seven Irish parent companies and nine of their German operations), the parent companies in both groups are examined to see whether they demonstrate characteristics which are in keeping with their national business cultures. Their foreign operations are then analysed as is the parent company-foreign subsidiary relationship to determine whether any parent company influences are visible. The general approaches adopted by the two groups of parent companies to their foreign operations are compared and contrasted. Finally differences in national attitudes and values are identified and their impact assessed.

This was especially true in Austria, where traditional allegiance to Roman Catholicism, linked with a strong emphasis on cultural continuity, constituted the tenor of social life. The book not only describes the history of Adventism in Austria but also examines its relationship to the Austrian political and religious milieu. The study may furnish valuable insights to stimulate further discussion of church-state relationships and provides a basis for continuing investigation of the dynamics involved in encounters of minority religions with hostile socio-cultural settings.

From serious illness to natural disasters, humans turn to communication as a major source of strength to help us bounce back and to keep growing and thriving. Communicating Hope and Resilience Across the Lifespan addresses the various ways in which communication plays an important role in fostering hope and resilience. Adopting a lifespan approach and offering a new framework to expand our understanding of the concepts of "hope" and "resilience" from a communication perspective, contributors highlight the variety of "stressors" that people may encounter in their lives. Little Steven. The disciple of soul
Steven Van Zandt peut se vanter d'avoir intégré deux des plus belles familles artistiques du vingtième siècle, toutes deux liées à l'humanité et à la fidélité qu'il incarne aux yeux de ses pairs. Au début des années mille-neuf-cent-soixante-dix, ses amis musiciens du New Jersey lui trouvent rapidement le surnom de "Miami Steve" puis il se crée celui de "Little Steven" qui deviendra son nom de scène à part entière. S'il est avant tout connu pour être l'ami fidèle de Bruce Springsteen, qui lui fait intégrer officiellement en 1975 son E Street Band, il fait également partie du casting mafieux le plus populaire des séries américaines, The Sopranos. Auteur, compositeur, arrangeur, producteur, il fonde son propre label, Wicked Cool Records, et anime également, depuis 2002, Little Steven's Underground Garage, un podcast célébrant chaque semaine le Rock dans tous ses états, des années mille-neuf-cent-cinquante à aujourd'hui. Homme de coeur, fidèle à ses origines et n'ayant jamais oublié le milieu très modeste d'où il vient, Steve Van Zandt est aussi un activiste qui s'investit politiquement et socialement, notamment dans toutes sortes d'associations caritatives, qu'elles soient en faveur des droits de l'Homme en Afrique du Sud ou en Amérique Latine ou qu'elles soient en lien avec l'éducation et le milieu scolaire. Il lance d'ailleurs en 2007 la fondation Rock and Roll Forever qui a pour but de venir en aide au système éducatif et faire reculer le décrochage scolaire, tout niveau confondu, à travers la musique par toutes sortes d'aides matérielles et de moyens financiers. En novembre 2020, Little Steven fête ses 70 ans et près de 50 ans de carrière. Il était bien temps qu'un ouvrage raconte son histoire.

The German Molière Revival and the Comedies of Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Carl Sternheim
Although they have yet to be treated together in a comparative study, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Carl Sternheim had a number of points of convergence in their respective searches for a modern form for the serious comedy. This study documents the collegial relationship between the two authors - in part with previously unpublished archival material -, analyses their respective treatments of Molière's comedies and places this in the context of Molière's reception in the German-speaking countries since the 17th century. What emerges is a new view of the comedies of Hofmannsthal and Sternheim, which sees both dramatists applying the same technique of countermodelling Molière's constellations of comedic figures - a modern critical re-appraisal of the traditional comedic type character.

The Dramatic Encounter of Divine and Human Freedom in the Theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar
This book surveys the major theological writings of Hans Urs von Balthasar from the perspective of the relationship between finite and infinite freedom. The first part examines Balthasar's early treatment of the question in the context of the analogy of being. The second part concentrates on his more mature work, the Theological Dramatics, with its understanding of the relationship between finite and infinite freedom in terms of a 'dramatic encounter' in which, controversially, human freedom is thought to actively participate in an ever-greater exchange of love in God. But this book is more than a survey. Observing the persistence of the 'analogy of proportionality' within the Dramatics leads the author in the third part to a critique of Balthasar's thought. It is argued that the continuation of the earlier perspective explains Balthasar's emphasis on the freedom of the individual to the neglect of social structures and their transformation. While the 'historical' as such is not neglected, as some claim it is, the focus is on the history of the individual and his or her relationship with God. It is therefore contended that Balthasar's theology of the Trinity is more concerned with 'interpersonal' relationships than truly 'social' ones and that this is what inhibits a fruitful dialogue with social theologies.

La prison devait détruire Marco Camenisch, guerrier captif depuis maintenant vingt ans, mais il mène depuis sa cellule une intense résistance et participe aux luttes des prisonniers. Il ne se laisse ni détruire, ni pacifier. Se résigner, c'est être complice.

This book brings together twelve specially commissioned essays that showcase current research on Spanish Republican exile theatre and performance, including work by some of the foremost scholars in the field. Covering a range of periods, geographical locations and theatrical phenomena, the essays are united by the common question of what it means to ‘stage exile', exploring the relationship between space, identity and performance in order to excavate the place of theatre in Spanish Republican exile production. Each chapter takes a particular case study as a starting point in order to assess the place of a particular text, practitioner or performance within Hispanic theatre tradition and then goes on to examine the case study's relationship with the specific sociocultural context in which it was located and/or produced. The authors investigate wider issues concerning the recovery and performability of these documentary traces, addressing their position within the contemporary debate over historical and cultural memory, their relationship to the contemporary stage, the insights they offer into the experience and performance of exile, and their contribution to contemporary configurations of identity and community in the Hispanic world. Entre l'apparition du jeune conscrit Hanson, quittant l'université pour servir au Vietnam, et celle de son double infernal, le sergent Hanson, membre des Forces Spéciales, il ne s'est guère écoulé que deux ans. Deux ans qui expliquent comment la devise de l'armée américaine, "In God we trust", peut se transformer en "Sympathy for the Devil". Kent Anderson a été les deux Hanson. Son livre n'est pas un livre de plus sur la guerre, mais l'un des rares reportages sur l'enfer.

Although Mme de Lafayette is acknowledged as the founder of the modern novel, her precise legacy has been understood only in relation to male-authored texts. However, she wrote as a woman, addressing issues that concerned women of her day, particularly the problem of the apparent incompatibility of sexual fulfilment and the institution of marriage. This study seeks to identify how La Princesse de Clèves was interpreted by three of Mme de Lafayette's most talented women successors and to show how their more sombre and subversive view of society was mediated in works of fiction which have strong affinities with the contes de fées for which they are well known. The novels of Mlle Bernard, Mme d'Aulnoy and Mlle de La Force are significant, not simply for what they tell us about themselves as women writers but also for what they reveal about the origins of the eighteenth-century novel.

Ce travail est une collaboration entre un photographe intrigué par l'évolution de la photographie et son ami Ricardo, qui est devenu à la fois sa muse et son modèle. Commencé en juillet 2013 aux Rencontres d'Arles comme une célébration joyeuse des photographes présentés cette année-là, Catherine Balet s'est ensuite intéressée à ce qui donne à une photographie son statut d'icône. Fascinée par la façon dont Internet sort les images de leurs contextes et réduit notre capacité à prêter attention à elles, elle a commencé à étudier de près les images qui ont bâti les fondements de notre culture visuelle photographique.

En 1885, le philosophe Adrien Sixte reçoit la visite d’un jeune homme de vingt ans, Robert Greslou, qui lui a soumis un manuscrit d’une impressionnante qualité. Puis Robert Greslou part en Auvergne occuper un poste de précepteur chez le marquis de Jussat-Randon. Deux ans plus tard, la fille du marquis meurt empoisonnée. Greslou est accusé du meurtre et Sixte est convoqué chez le juge qui se demande dans quelle mesure l’influence du philosophe a pu détruire le sens moral de son disciple. Roman d’analyse et d’éducation, mais aussi roman à thèse puisque Bourget y dénonce la responsabilité du maître à penser et s’en prend à la science moderne qui s’est substituée à la religion sans fournir de morale, Le Disciple, publié en 1889, est un livre « qui a compté dans l’histoire de la littérature, dans l’histoire des idées, et dans l’histoire tout court ».

A Stockholm, plusieurs femmes sont atrocement assassinées dans leurs appartements. Le mode opératoire semble calqué sur celui d'Edward Hinde qui réside pourtant désormais derrière les barreaux de la prison de haute sécurité de Lövhaga, arrêté par un certain. .. Sebastian Bergman. Qui réintègre donc la police criminelle le temps de l'enquête, malgré les réticences de ses collègues. D'autant qu'il va vite découvrir que les meurtres lui sont plus intimement liés encore que ce qu'il avait imaginé... Le deuxième volume de la série mettant en scène Sebastian Bergman, qu'on adore tous détester.
