Fuseli and the Modern Woman. Fashion, Fantasy, Fetishism
This catalogue accompanies the first exhibition devoted to a fascinating group of drawings by the Anglo-Swiss Henry Fuseli (1741-1825), one of eighteenth-century Europe's most idiosyncratic, original and controversial artists. Best known for his notoriously provocative painting The Nightmare, Fuseli energetically cultivated a reputation for eccentricity, with vividly stylised images of supernatural creatures, muscle-bound heroes, and damsels in distress. While these convinced some viewers of the greatness of his genius, others dismissed him as a charlatan, or as completely mad. Fuseli's contemporaries might have thought him even crazier had they been aware that in private he harboured an obsessive preoccupation with the figure of the modern woman, which he pursued almost exclusively in his drawings. Where one might have expected idealised bodies with the grace and proportions of classical statues, here instead we encounter figures whose anatomies have been shaped by stiff bodices, waistbands, puffed sleeves, and pointed shoes, and whose heads are crowned by coiffures of the most bizarre and complicated sort. Often based on the artist's wife Sophia Rawlins, the women who populate Fuseli's graphic work tend to adopt brazenly aggressive attitudes, either fixing their gaze directly on the viewer or ignoring our presence altogether. Usually they appear on their own, in isolation on the page ; sometimes they are grouped together to form disturbing narratives, erotic fantasies that may be mysterious, vaguely menacing, or overtly transgressive, but where women always play a dominant role. Among the many intriguing questions raised by these works is the extent to which his wife Sophia was actively involved in fashioning her appearance for her own pleasure, as well as for the benefit of her husband. By bringing together more than fifty of these studies (roughly a third of the known total), The Courtauld Gallery will give audiences an unprecedented opportunity to see one of the finest Romantic-period draughtsmen at his most innovative and exciting. Visitors to the show and readers of the lavishly illustrated catalogue will further be invited to consider how Fuseli's drawings of women, as products of the turbulent aftermath of the American and French Revolutions, speak to concerns about gender and sexuality that have never been more relevant than they are today. The exhibition showcases drawings brought together from international collections, including the Kunsthaus in Zurich, the Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand, and from other European and North American institutions.

Ces variants doivent être abattus jusqu'au dernier mais, niant la défaite japonaise, ils intensifient leur lutte et enchaînent les attentats contre le GHQ et les civils. Kankurô Konoe et Saika parviennent à éliminer les variants les uns après les autres... jusqu'au 26 février 1946, où un événement imprévu frappe la capitale ! Un nouvel attentat fait 32 morts. Litchi Gotô, l'instigateur des attentats, s'avère être une vieille connaissance de Kankurô.

Konoe et Saika seront-ils alors congédiés et perdront-ils l'occasion de mettre un terme à la folie de Kuromori ? L'auteur montre un talent remarquable pour transcrire les ambiances nocturnes par un dessin d'un subtil équilibre d'aplats noirs et blancs. Un style qui colle à l'époque de son récit.

L'Unité 731, créée entre 1932 et 1933 par mandat impérial, était un laboratoire secret, unité militaire de recherche bactériologique de l'Armée impériale japonaise. Officiellement, cette unité, dirigée par Shir ? Ishii, se consacrait à " la prévention des épidémies et la purification de l'eau ", mais en réalité, elle effectuait des expérimentations sur des cobayes humains. Septembre 1945, Tokyo. Le Japon a capitulé devant les Etats-Unis. Un processus d'après-guerre est alors initié : la traque et l'élimination systématique des armes humaines créées par l'Unité 731, des combattants génétiquement modifiés, vestiges de la guerre. Dans ce contexte, un soldat démobilisé, Konoe, est recruté et associé avec une jeune fille immortelle, Saika, elle-même née d'une expérience biologique de l'unité 731. Ils devront travailler ensemble pour traquer les créatures hors de contrôle issues de ce laboratoire secret. Septembre 1945, Tokyo. Un processus d'après-guerre est en cours. C'est l'extermination des armes humaines créées par l'Unité 731, vestiges de la guerre qui doivent être éliminés. Une jeune fille immortelle, Saika, déterminée à vivre et à être libre, va aider le soldat Kankuro Konoe, un ancien infirmier militaire. Tous deux se lancent à la recherche des armes humaines dispersées.

Nous en apprenons davantage sur le passé de Kuromori, qui réussit à rallier un nouvel allié à la cause de la milice Kiheitai... Grâce à ces manoeuvres, la tension est à son comble alors que des émeutes se créent et qu'une guerre civile est sur le point d'éclater...

Percival et ses amis sont tombés dans le piège d'Ardberg, Chevalier sacré au service du roi Arthur, qui les a fait régresser à l'état de nourrissons grâce à sa magie. Ils ne sont plus en mesure de se battre... Heureusement, Gowther des Seven Deadly Sins est là pour venir à leur rescousse et neutralise Ardberg en un tournemain ! Mais alors qu'on aurait pu croire à une accalmie, voilà que de nouveaux poursuivants font leur apparition... Il s'agit d'un redoutable groupe d'assassins appelé "les Talismans obscurs", et nos amis n'ont absolument aucune chance de les vaincre en les attaquant de front. «Phädon», or «On the Immortality of the Soul»
This is the first modern translation of Moses Mendelssohn's classic work of 1767, the Phädon. It includes Mendelssohn's own introduction and appendix, as well as footnotes and explanatory introduction by David Shavin. Mais aujourd'hui, elle n'a pas le temps et les deux cousins s'ennuient. Alors, ils décident de grimper dans le grenier où sont entreposés de vieux souvenirs et objets abandonnés. Ils y ont déjà été, mais maintenant ils sont plus grands et peut-être trouveront-ils un trésor qu'ils n'avaient pas aperçu, lors de la dernière visite. Après un long moment de recherche, dans un coin, Louise découvre une malle poussiéreuse. Les deux cousins, l'ouvrent et entrevoient un sabre avec une inscription. Une trouvaille qui va les mener jusqu'à l'école militaire de Saint Cyr de Coëtquidan, sur les traces de leur grand père. It's a Sunday and often as not, Louise and Arthur go and visit their grandmother. They like to go there, she plays with them and tells them lots of stories. But this Sunday she does not have the time, so the two cousins are bored. They decide to climb up into the attic, where old memorabilia and abandoned objects are stored. They have been there before, but now that they are taller, maybe they will find a treasure they did not see during their last visit. After a long moment of searching, in a corner, Louise discovers a dusty trunk. The two cousins open it and see a sword with an inscription. A discovery that will lead them to the military school at Saint Cyr de Coëtquidan, in the footsteps of their grandfather.

Nationalism in Education
The comparative Reader, with authors from 6 continents and 9 countries analyses, to what extent the nation concept is still at the heart of international organizations and agreements, under which circumstances nationalism rose in specific regions and cultures at different times, and, to what extent education was influenced by or used for nationalistic doctrines and policies. Case studies as well as systematic analyses illustrate, that education can hardly change its own socioeconomic and political context. However, education and educational policy can support a prevention of and balance to nationalism in the long run, if they counteract stereotyping and scapegoating, familiarize with overlapping and competing loyalties, and, encourage human rights, international cooperation and cultural relationalism.

Acacia thorn in my heart
I started writing "Acacia thorn in my heart" after reading the book of a white South African woman about her childhood in the same region as mine but relating a completely different experience. She had maids, her father drove her to school and she played with real toys. I lived in the heart of the country, away from everything and had to walk five miles to go to school. I was born in Natal. My father rented a plot of land from a white owner to do market gardening. Although Indian families tended not to educate daughters, our parents decided that education was a priority for us. Despite financial difficulties, they were able to send us to school. We had to get up at five o'clock in order to catch the school train. In winter, as we were scantily clad, we shivered all the way to the station.

Elena Kats-Chernin wrote Afterwards for the 18th birthday of a young acquaintance, Guy Knopke, who had just started playing the bassoon. The title refers to "the new adventures and changes that can lie ahead after a significant milestone", according to the composer. She created a solo [also duo] piano version for herself, which is published in the anthology Piano Village (BB 3409). The final version of the original for bassoon and piano, which is no longer quite suitable for beginners, was recorded on CD by Elena Kats-Chernin together with the soloist Lorelei Dowling on Chromart Classics in 2017. Paul's Sexual and Marital Ethics in 1 Corinthians 7 : An African-Cameroonian Perspective provides readers with an innovative interpretation of Paul's pastoral and pedagogical approach and solutions to the multifaceted ethical problems presented to him by the Corinthian community, revealing a wide-ranging, complex, and flexible decision-making process. Alice Yafeh's analysis also illuminates two different evaluations of the same ethical problem may be simultaneously relevant where operating assumptions diverge : first as a community in pursuance of the goal of undistracted devotion to the Lord, and, second, as individual members who must pursue that goal within the specific lifestyles in which they have been called. The author argues that Paul's pastoral and theological approach, which is deeply motivated by a desire to inspire faithful Christian living and witness, can serve as a new model for evaluating pre-conversion polygyny ; a model that is oriented toward positive and substantive change in the lives of women and children. Consequently, the implication of Paul's approach and judgments for contemporary Christian communities suggests the same believing community may adopt different ways of faithfully living out the practical implications of Christian view of marriage extended by Paul in 1 Corinthians 7.
