Poet Nightingale Bharathiyar Subramaniya Bharathiyar was born on 11th December 1882 in Ettayapuram, which is now part of Thoothukudi District. He died on 11th September 1921. Bharathiar was educated at a local high school where his talents as a poet were recognized even at the age of 11. He had a voracious appetite for learning ancient and contemporary Tamil literature and had a gifted intellect to derive astonishing truths from ancient poems. He was also one of the prominent leaders of the Indian independence movement. His national integration songs earned him the title "Desiya Kavi" (National Poet). His patriotic songs emphasize nationalism, unity of India, equality of men and the greatness of the Tamil language. It is a real and great pleasure for me to present this nice treatise on Poet Nightingale Bharathiyar to you. It reflects the Chinese imperial period, the transformation of the political system of the young Republic of China and the divisions of the Chinese world. It equally bears witness to an extremely tumultuous past marked by the Sino-Japanese War and the Nationalist-Communist Civil War. This imperial heritage, divided between China and Taiwan, serves to evoke of all manner of memories among the populations for whom "Chineseness" is deeply rooted. Sandrine Marchand , Poetic Longing : Resistance to the Image in Memorial Poetry The multiple memories of Taiwan-memories of the islanders, of the aborigines and the mainlanders-were expressed in poetry, which avoids the descriptive obligations of narrative language. Poetry thus appears as the genre most capable of underlining the shifting parts of memory, its uncertain grasp as well as its unpredictable evolution. Li filmed at various times the political events around Sun Yat-sen and then Chiang Kai-shek. He took part in 1930 in the founding of a film company, Lianhua, which placed a very special emphasis on the production of newsreel films. The article examines the goals of the producers, whether they worked in conjunction with the Guomindang or on other types of projects. These newsreel films, in the diversity of their contents, undoubtedly constitute an archive of the history of China, but they also reveal differing conceptions of the national memory then in the process of construction. Through the analysis of Chinese and Taiwanese films, put in perspective with a detour by way of American films, this article discusses the manner in which film explores these moments of the past and proposes a new reading by means of a close reading focused on their protagonists, most frequently restored to their individuality above and beyond of any stereotypical view. Emmanuel Lincot , Ai Weiwei : Between Engagement and Memory By his intellectual stance, the artist Ai Weiwei situates himself with in a memorial tradition-that, first of all, of protest in scholarly circles, but also by means of his commitment to transnational values. In this, Ai Weiwei is a figure of at the forefront of disruption. His approach disturbs representations and memory. This last is driven by experience ; it cannot bring about any consensus in its interpretation, and speaks to us time and again of the artist we will approach here through his different achievements in fields that are as diverse as architecture, photography and publication.

In his early twenties Goethe wrote Proserpina for the Weimar court singer Corona Schröter to perform. His interest in presenting Weimar's first professional singer-in-residence in a favourable light was not the only reason why this monologue with music (now lost) by Seckendorff is important. Goethe's memories of his sister Cornelia, who had recently died in childbirth, were in fact the real catalyst : through this work Goethe could level accusations against his parents about Cornelia's marriage, of which he had not approved. Goethe used the melodramatic form to transform private and cultural issues for women of the time into public discourses and so to manipulate public opinion. His work reveals an astute understanding of musical melodrama and the important impact it had on the cultural dynamics of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Whatever the source of inspiration, it is clear that Goethe was very preoccupied with Proserpina. When he returned to this melodrama forty years later he collaborated closely with Carl Eberwein, the court, theatre, and church music director, who composed a new setting which accords with Goethe's clear understanding of musical declamation in 19th century melodrama. In the intensive collaboration which took place while the production was being prepared in January 1815, Goethe was already anticipating the idea of a Gesamtkunstwerk. He paid close attention to every aspect of the production, especially to its music and its staging. When discussing contemporary settings of the poet's works, scholars often lapse into regret that Goethe did not have someone of comparable rank at his side for musical collaborations. Yet Eberwein's willingness to go along with Goethe's wishes was an advantage here : the selfless striving of the young composer to satisfy the poet's intentions is everywhere apparent in the score and it is the nearest thing we have to a ‘composition by Goethe'. Despite critics' positive reception of the first performance on 4 February 1815, the work has never been published before. Musically and dramatically this unknown melodrama is a superb work for solo voice, choir, and orchestra, and deserves to be brought before the public today.

L'histoire politique de l'Empire romain d'Orient au temps de Justinien (527-565) est d'ordinaire illustrée par quelques souverains à la postérité contrastée. Cet ouvrage étudie l'envers du décor de la cour de Constantinople entre 450 et 610, à l'époque où elle acquiert son existence propre. Il conduit donc du règne de Marcien, le promoteur du concile de Chalcédoine (451), à celui de Phocas, que l'on peut tenir pour le dernier empereur antique. Il repose sur une prosopographie des élites de cour connues pour leurs relations politiques avec les empereurs, mais aussi pour leurs liens familiaux, leurs origines géographiques et leurs orientation religieuses. Au sujet des individus répondant à ces critères, il discute le détail des carrières en particulier vis-à-vis des notices de la Prosopography of the Later Roman Empire. The political history of the Eastern Roman Empire under Justinien is unusually embodied by few rulers with ambivalent legacies. This work studies the Constantinople court behind the scenes from 450 to 610, at the moment when it grew into a distinct entity. It thus spans the period from the rule of Marcian, the promoter of the Council of Chalcedon (451) to that of Phocas, who may be considered as the last Emperor of Antiquity. The approach relies on a prosopography of court elites known for their political ties with emperors. but also for their family bonds, geographical origins, and religious options. For each of the individuals meeting these criteria, career details are discussed, particularly in contrast with the entries of Prosopography of the later Roman Empire. The perspective is chronological and follows the successive imperial rule, each of them being studied with regard to the specific configuration of its court The geographical origin and religion orientation of these court Bites are main parameters delineating the dominant groups and cementing their cohesiveness The Balkans, Asia Minor, the Near East and Egypt were just as central as Chalcedonism and Monophysitism to the power struggles playing out in the court The importance of kinship loyalty during that period has long been underestimated, although it is similar to what is observed in the later history of the Byzantine Empire. Recurrent rebellion often harked back to the legitimacy of former Emperors. But these protests were more radical in the provinces than in the capital and ultimately proved to be only a tumor threat to the imperial power, except in the early seventh century. While the political personnel experienced a high turnover, certain faction still enjoyed relative longevity at the court of Constantinople, which gained a form of stability over the period. Studying the variation of the Byzantine court thus enriches our knowledge of European political culture.

Günter Wagner, born 5 July 1928 in Jüterborg, Germany, studied theology in Hamburg and in Zurich, where he received a doctoral degree in 1960. From 1956 till 1958 he was employed as research assistant and representative of the German Free Churches at the Ecumenical Centre of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen" in Frankfurt. In 1958 he was appointed as instructor for New Testament Studies at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Rüschlikon, continuing as associate professor (1961), and professor of New Testament Studies (1965) for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. Günter Wagner is a member of numerous ecumenical committees and societies for biblical studies, and has taught as visiting professor and lecturer in Europe, America, and Africa. He is editor of "Exegetical Bibliographies" and co-editor of the book series "Die Kirchen der Welt" and the ecumenical journal Una Sancta ; he served on the editorial board of the exegetical journal "New Testament Studies". His publications of articles in biblical and exegetical journals and particularly his book on "Pauline Baptism and Pagan Mysteries" have established his scholarly reputation worldwide.

The development of psychotherapy manuals may be critical to modern comparative psychotherapy research and the training of therapists. Based on this assumption, four manuals were comparatively analysed according to structural design and content. Furthermore, an empirical study compared how a sample of inexperienced versus experienced therapists (American and German), evaluated the four manuals. Finally, based on these analyses, a generic model for psychotherapy manuals is presented. Since the four manuals studied cover supportive-expressive psychoanalytic therapy, time-limited psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy for depression, and cognitive therapy for depression, this work also provides an overview of how varying approaches can be presented in manual form.

RADIO PLURALISM IN WEST AFRICAThe present survey has been compiled from a project regarding radio broadcasting pluralism in West Africa. This project is part of Regional Programme of the Paris Panos Institute. It includes research as well as a back up plan for the development of radio broadcasting pluralism in West Africa. This survey covers ECOWAS 16 member-countries with the exception of Liberia which is excluded for political reasons. It has been monitored by a committee of participants who are all interested, for various reasons, in the development of radio broadcasting pluralism in West Africa. Surveys were carried out by african journalists and researchers.

Philip Freneau (1752-1832) was one of the first Americans to gain wide recognition as a writer. He is generally remembered as the "father of American poetry," but his prose writings have not always received the attention they deserve. As the editor of three important papers in the late 18th century (The National Gazette. The Jersey Chronicle, and The Time-Piece and Literary Companion) and as a contributor to many others, Freneau produced a large number of political and literary essays. The "Tomo Cheeki Essays", which were published in 1795 and in 1797, constitute an excellent example of Freneau's prose work. These pseudo-autobiographical accounts of an Indian visiting a city of the Whites are based upon the model of the European "oriental tale," while simultaneously incorporating American subject matter. The essays are representative of a decisive period of American literary history, since they reveal both Freneau's indebtedness to European culture and his role in the process of overcoming this indebtedness in the beginning creation of an independent national literature. The present edition provides the first complete and separate modern collection of the essays, which gives the reader an opportunity to get acquainted with an important example of early American prose writing that has been virtually inaccessible up to now.

Born in 1910 into an industrial environment in northern Switzerland, Arthur Rich's spiritual and intellectual wrestlings were how the Christian Gospel could embrace the real world of industry and work.
