Charless Camoin (1879-1965). Un fauve en liberté
Charles Camoin arrive à Paris en janvier 1898, où il s'inscrit à l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts, avant d'être admis dans l'atelier de Gustave Moreau. C'est là qu'il rencontre Matisse, Marquet et Manguin et participe avec eux à la "Cage aux fauves" du Salon d'automne 1905. Membre du fauvisme, ses oeuvres - considérées d'un fauvisme modéré - sont appréciées de la critique pour leur franchise et leur rigueur constructrice. Il s'installera définitivement dans la capitale en 1904. L'artiste occupe à Montmartre l'atelier du 12 rue Cortot de l'hiver 1908 à 1909, dans l'aile gauche du bâtiment sur rue. Véritable montmartrois d'adoption, il ne quittera plus la Butte, sauf pour quelques séjours dans le Sud de la France ou à l'étranger. Sa rencontre avec Cézanne représente pour lui un tournant : son influence est apparente dans la construction de l'espace pictural par la couleur. A partir de 1908, Camoin réintègre le noir dans sa palette, et accorde une importance croissante à la gestualité de la touche. Certaines vues de Paris et de Montmartre ainsi diffusent une impression mélancolique. A cette époque, l'artiste traverse une période difficile, brûlant même les toiles qui ne lui convenaient pas. Les paysages du Midi, les portraits de femmes, les natures mortes et les nus sont les sujets qui parcourent essentiellement son oeuvre. L'exposition souhaite retracer les liens qu'a entretenus Charles Camoin avec le quartier de Montmartre, à partir de ses toiles et dessins, mises en perspective avec les oeuvres de ses maîtres, Renoir, Cézanne et de ses camarades, Matisse, Derain, Marquet, Manguin ou encore Van Dongen.

Agricultural Price Policy and Export and Food Production in Cameroon
This volume discusses the issue of agricultural price policy for the coffee-based farming systems in Cameroon. It presents a farming systems based analysis of the impact of different agricultural policies on food and export crop production in small mixed farming systems. The analysis shows what impact price policy and changing price relationships have on the production of coffee as well as food crops. The two major coffee-based production systems in Cameroon are modeled in a linear programming framework and the reaction of the farmers to varying price relations, institutional settings and technology changes are analyzed. It also highlights how price policy affects inter- and intrahousehold income distribution.

Poet Nightingale Bharathiyar, life story of Bharathiyar
Poet Nightingale Bharathiyar Subramaniya Bharathiyar was born on 11th December 1882 in Ettayapuram, which is now part of Thoothukudi District. He died on 11th September 1921. Bharathiar was educated at a local high school where his talents as a poet were recognized even at the age of 11. He had a voracious appetite for learning ancient and contemporary Tamil literature and had a gifted intellect to derive astonishing truths from ancient poems. He was also one of the prominent leaders of the Indian independence movement. His national integration songs earned him the title "Desiya Kavi" (National Poet). His patriotic songs emphasize nationalism, unity of India, equality of men and the greatness of the Tamil language. It is a real and great pleasure for me to present this nice treatise on Poet Nightingale Bharathiyar to you. Anas poecilorhyncha : The Indian spot-billed duck is a freshwater bird that lives in Pakistan and India. It preferably inhabits medium-sized wetlands, lakes or swamps, sheltered under the vegetation. Some individuals are migratory. The size of a mallard, the duck recognizable for its green and white-trimmed speculum (speckled band on the wings), as well as its black beak with yellow tip and red-orange spots. Le général Thomas Hardwicke (1756-1835) est un soldat et naturaliste anglais affecté en Inde entre 1777 et 1823. Il se consacre sur place à la recherche de spécimens d'espèces locales encore inconnues en Europe, qui seront ensuite dessinés par des artistes indiens. A son retour en Angleterre, Hardwicke avait rassemblé 4 500 illustrations, dont 202 qui seront sélectionnées par lui-même et son collaborateur J. E. Gray pour être publiées sous le titre Illustrations of Indian Zoology. Le livre a été publié entre 1830 et 1835 et ne contient que des illustrations, Hardwicke étant décédé avant la production de la partie textuelle. Major-General Thomas Hardwicke (1756-1835) was an English soldier and naturalist who was poste in India from 1777 to 1823. Aside from his military activities, he devoted himself to looking for specimens of local species which he afterwards asked Indian artists to draw and from which many were unknown until then. When he returned to England, Hardwicke had gathered 4, 500 illustrations, from which 202 were chosen by him and his collaborator J. E. Gray to be published under the title Illustrations of Indian Zoology. Employment, Well-Being and Gender
This book examines welfare effects of gender-related inequalities in Korean households and labor markets. It uses subjective well-being data to show that reductions of excessive levels of working hours did improve family well-being in the past decade. Moreover, benefits from major life events like marriage can differ greatly by sex if traditional gender roles dominate and women contribute much less than men to household earnings. Furthermore, the study examines dynamics in rural East Asian economies and their impact on individual welfare outcomes. Both land redistribution and productivity-enhancing reforms are found to have been highly beneficial for Korean development. The Indonesian case study demonstrates the importance of cash-crop decisions and the growing non-farm sector for rural development.

The Phantom and the Abyss
The book focuses on the evolution of the Gothic fiction in America from Charles Brockden Brown to Herman Melville in the context of the aesthetics of the sublime. Starting with a reading of Brown's Gothic romances – Wieland and Edgar Huntly – and concluding with an analysis of Melville's Pierre, the author demonstrates the relevance of the Kantian concept of the sublime for the nineteenth-century American literature of horror. An inspiration to present the development of the American Gothic in the period under scrutiny as a coherent process has been also the psychoanalytic theory of Nicolas Abraham and Maria Torok. Moreover, the study contains an attempt to place R.H. Dana, Sr and W. Allston in the American literary canon.

1988, je voudrais bien discuter avec le monde
Au fil de ce road novel, Han Han lance son narrateur sur un parcours de rencontres fortuites et d'observations d'une Chine intérieure, provinciale. Chronique d'un voyage au jour le jour entrecoupée d'une mosaïque de souvenirs d'enfance et d'adolescence où, pour fuir la morbidité, l'amertume professionnelle et l'aveuglement social, le héros, jeune journaliste, s'élance vers un horizon rédempteur. Dans ce tableau des mentalités et des valeurs des années 1990 et 2000, Han Han recycle, par la vivacité des dialogues et son humour personnel, les souvenirs que partagent les trentenaires chinois. Il suggère des repères à la mémoire collective. Peut-être souhaite-t-il la forger aussi. La langue est simple, pleine d'humour mais non dénuée de profondeur et dénotant de la part de l'auteur une grande lucidité. 1988 véhicule des rêves d'enfance, des évasions d'adulte, la peur du destin, et quelques précieux instants de libre poésie.

Le rire est son arme favorite et le ton familier avec lequel il manie la dérision fait mouche.

Ce que Xiaolong préfère, c'est rouler comme un dingue sur sa moto. Seul ou avec Niba, une fille à l'air candide. Niba aime peindre et rêver, et elle est amoureuse de lui depuis l'enfance. Xiaolong agit selon ses instincts, ses envies, redresseur de torts à ses heures, il ne connaît pas les limites que la société lui impose. La petite ville où il vit n'a peut-être rien d'attirant mais c'est son royaume. Un royaume que la plupart des jeunes ont déserté et que les dirigeants veulent mener à la réussite économique. Mais ils ne parviennent qu'à polluer terres et rivières. Lorque les animaux se mettent à muter et les crevettes chinoises à ressembler à des écrevisses australiennes, Xiaolong trouve que trop, c'est trop. Mais s'il possède un grand sens de l'équilibre sur les deux-roues, ce n'est pas le cas dans les relations humaines ou quand il faut négocier un compromis.

Flavius Josephus, the Zealots and Yavne
The historiography concerning The War of the Jews by Flavius Josephus has underlined the various aspects (economic, social, political, religious) of the Roman-Jewish conflict from 66 to 73 AD. A study of the Jew's vision of himself and the Other, the Roman, makes it possible to see this conflict from the point of view of the conquered. Analysis of the events which, from 6 to 66 AD, resulted in the opening of hostilities, suggests that the Jewish-Roman conflict was also a conflict of mentalities. The Jewish mentality implies a concept of war which contributed to the development of the divisions and schisms between the supporters of full-scale war against Rome (the Zealots) and the non-belligerents (Rabbi Yohanan ben Zaccaï and the Yavne School, Flavius Josephus). Furthermore, the discourse of Flavius Josephus is Jewish discourse. So far as certain options are concerned, such as his rejection of the war against Rome on the one hand, and his hatred of the Zealots on the other, a literal reading of that discourse shows that they are in the direct line of Jewish tradition as represented by RYBZ and his Yavne School. Josephus can be taken literally ; the interest of his writing lies in its presentation of an internal cohesion and in the light that throws on the points of convergence and divergence in the same Pharisaic options. Finally, Josephus' text leads us to reconsider the problem of his 'betrayal'.

Titian : Sources and Documents
Hugely ambitious, Titian : Sources and Documents includes all known documents about Titian and his work dating from his lifetime, and all known references to him in contemporary publications. The relevant section of each text is transcribed in full, preceded by a short summary in English, with extensive annotation and, where necessary, a commentary. The intention of this incredible work of scholarship is to provide a comprehensive survey of the surviving historical evidence about Titian and his career. Titian was one of the most famous, successful and long-lived of Renaissance painters. Much of his output was for rulers or institutions whose archives have been in large part preserved, and many of his family papers have also survived. In addition, he was mentioned in more than a hundred and sixty different publications in his lifetime. Although hundreds of the documents about him and his work have been published, usually in specialised publications based on material in a single archive, there have only been two attempts to provide an overview of the entire body of documents and early published references to him, the first by Crowe and Cavalcaselle in 1877, the second by Adolfo Venturi in 1928. These publications were necessarily selective and included transcriptions of only a small part of the material which was used. The collection, amounting to over two thousand nine hundred items, includes not only texts specifically about Titian himself, but also those concerning his siblings and children, his principal assistants and the other members of the Vecellio family already active as painters before his death, as well as inscriptions on paintings and prints. In addition to texts dating from Titian's lifetime, the collection includes all biographical material published before 1700 and all other texts that could realistically be thought to reflect first- or second-hand anecdotal information about him. The particular strengths and limitations of the principal early printed sources and the circumstances in which they were produced are discussed in a substantial introduction, which also includes an overview of the main archival collections consulted in the preparation of the book. Most of these are in Italy, but others are in Spain, Austria and Germany. New transcriptions are provided for the great majority of the documents that have previously been published, and many hitherto unknown documents have been included. Consideration is given also to documents now known only via secondary sources, and to fake documents, of which a significant number were produced in the past two centuries.
