The Turkish Boudoir of Marie Antoinette and Joséphine at Fontainebleau
Ten years apart, Marie Antoinette gives to Fontainebleau two jewels made by the greatest artists of her time : the Turkish boudoir (1777) and the silver boudoir (1786). In these homes of retirement, the queen escapes the label of the Court and combines a fancy Orient with the expression of the most extravagant novelties. The craze for turqueries did not fade in the early nineteenth century and the Empress Joséphine moved a few years later in this women's shelter offering a new sparkle to this universe of the Thousand and One Nights. She had a sumptuous and atypical furniture, which combines mahogany and gilded bronzes with lamé fabrics, embroidered and fringed with gold. After a painstaking restoration, the graceful carved, painted and gilded paneling of Marie Antoinette's boudoir is once again the setting for Joséphine's luxurious furniture. Nestled in a corner of the ancestral castle of Fontainebleau, the Turkish boudoir is the only decoration of its kind preserved in France and one of the most exceptional sets of furniture created for Joséphine.

Venetian Disegno : New Frontiers circa 1420 to 1620 offers a fresh perspective on the art of Venice and the Veneto. The volume brings together the contributions of scholars and curators specialist on a wide variety of artists and art forms including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and architecture. Venetian Disegno : New Frontiers circa 1420 to 1620 takes disegno as its central theme, that in its plurality of meaning allows for a consideration of the conceptual role of design and the act of drawing. The relationship between disegno and Renaissance Venetian art has historically been a problematic one, with emphasis instead being placed on the Venetian predilection for colore. This volume is reflective of an ongoing challenge to this perspective and draws attention to the importance of Venetian disegno and the study of drawings for understanding various art forms. The book commences with a critical study of what constitutes disegno in Venetian art. It does so through questioning the historiography of Venetian artistic scholarship and the restrictive framework and preconceptions that have emerged before setting out the merits of a broader, more inclusive approach. Disegno is applied in its multifaceted nature to address the physical act of drawing, the tangible drawn object and the role of design in artistic practice. The term 'Venetian' is taken to encompass both Venice and its mainland territories not least because of the mobility of artists across and beyond the region. Contributions are divided into five thematic sections. The first, entitled 'Peripheries', frames the art of Venice within a wider discourse on the movement of ideas across and beyond the Veneto in locations including Padua, Verona and Rome. A section on Media considers the origins and innovations that took place in the use of materials such as blue paper, oil and coloured chalks. In another, the theories that have developed on Venetian notions of disegno are brought under scrutiny, addressing topics such as the long upheld perspective that Venetian artists did not draw, the role of sculpture in Tintoretto's drawing practice and the interrelation between the written and drawn line in Palma Giovane's draftsmanship. The section on Invention reflects on the technical innovations that were facilitated through the uptake of printmaking and the intellectual freedom granted by humanist patrons. Finally, Function gets to the heart of the practical purpose of disegno. Contributions focus on the workshops of the Bellini family and Titian to consider the diverse ways they used drawing within their artistic practices with an emphasis on technical analysis. These sections are all preceded by introductions that provide an overview on each theme while the volume is bookended by two reflections on the state of research into Venetian disegno and the potential for further progress. Sumptuously illustrated with over 100 images with a comprehensive bibliography, Venetian Disegno : New Frontiers circa 1420 to 1620 represents a significant contribution to scholarship on the art of Venice, Renaissance workshops and drawing studies.

The artist Patrick Hourcade met Karl Lagerfeld in 1976, initiating a friendship that would last more than twenty years, nourished by a shared passion for the arts of the eighteenth century. Patrick Hourcade tells us the story of this aesthetic meeting of minds. Together they would construct a magnificent world of refinement and luxury-at times bordering on the extravagant-from the Château de Grand-Champ in Brittany to the Hôtel Pozzo di Borgo in Paris and villa La Vigie on the Côte d'Azur. The objects of cultural transfers are innumerable. Their study is particularly important to understanding the medieval Norman worlds and their multiple interconnections with the Scandinavian world, the British Isles, Eastern Europe, and the Mediterranean. While examining the processes of transmission, reception, adaptation, adoption, or rejection, this book highlights how these dynamics influenced cultures between the eighth and twelfth centuries. Various examples of both material (embroidery ; clothing accessories ; iron artefacts ; coins ; manuscripts ; funeral monuments ; sculptures, etc.) and immaterial objects (craftsmanship ; literary models ; language ; religious and burial practices ; ideology of power ; oath-taking, etc.) are studied, including some emblematic ‘monuments' of the Norman worlds (the Bayeux Tapestry ; the mosaics on the floor of Otranto Cathedral). Particular attention is given to presenting these objects in a context in which their reinterpretation in different socio-cultural environments could be better understood. The book also questions the role and the significance of the actors of cultural transfers (aristocratic elites ; churchmen ; merchants ; craftsmen ; authors ; copyists ; etc.), considering their status or their function, as well as their aptitude to carry transfers. It sheds light on relations and networks that have been thus far relatively unknown, and on the circulation of models that consists of a multitude of objects and productions. Finally, it contributes to the exploration of the contacts between different populations and the construction of their interactions.

Born in China in 1968 and living in France since 2001, Li Fang capture in her paintings the oscillations of the contemporary world. Although her work is figurative, her technique, which uses large flat areas of colour like blocks sculpted from pictorial matter, clearly forges a link with abstraction. This stylistic unity unfolds in a variety of series that reflect her life and our times : portraits of loved ones, scenes of swimming, anonymous urban crowds, resistance to Chinese censorship, the tragedy of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea... Deux voyages. Stéphane Lovighi-Bourgogne & Stéphane Ménétrier
Stéphane Lovighi-Bourgogne et Stéphane Ménétrier se sont rencontrés en 1996, à Barjols, dans l'arrière-pays varois. Stéphane Ménétrier qui avait promené ses objectifs par-delà les frontières fut tout de suite subjugué par les toiles, pleines de mondes, d'un jeune Lovighi. A cette époque, un premier recueil, tiré à compte d'auteur, mêlant les dessins de l'un et les photos de l'autre, voit le jour ; comme une trace nécessaire pour sceller cette amitié devenue inévitable. Quelques années après, Stéphane Lovighi-Bourgogne installe son atelier à Cotignac, et commence, dès lors, ces rendez-vous plus réguliers entre ces deux Stéphane, où quand l'un, photographie, l'autre, dessine sa peinture. Deux regards croisés - l'un sur l'autre - pour deux voyages créatifs mais qui, au fond, racontent une seule et même aventure : celle d'une mâle tendresse, toute contenue, entre ces deux écorchés qui se sont bien trouvés. Stéphane Lovighi-Bourgogne and Stéphane Ménétrier met in 1996 in Barjols, in the Var countryside. Stéphane Ménétrier, who had travelled far and wide with his camera, was immediately captivated by the paintings, filled with different worlds, of a young Lovighi. It was at this time that a first self-published collection combining the drawings of one and the photographs of the other was created, like a necessary trace sealing a friendship that had become inevitable. A few years later, Stéphane Lovighi-Bourgogne set up his studio in Cotignac and from then on, more regular meetings between the two Stéphanes began, where one photographed and the other drew his paintings. Two perspectives - one on the other - for two creative journeys, but which, in the end, tell one and the same adventure : that of a masculine tenderness, all reined in, between these two hypersensitive souls who have chosen each other.

The fondation Louis Vuitton by Frank Gehry. Edition en Anglais
This volume recounts the story of an architectural, environmental, and technological adventure. It details the challenges posed by creating the newest addition to the Parisian skyline-a building that was conceived by Frank Gehry as the Fondation Louis Vuitton's premier work of art. Inspired by the new cultural institution, the book's carefully sequenced chapters reflect each episode in the series of challenges that arose. A work of reference on the process of designing and building the Fondation, the book offers solutions for architecture professionals while simultaneously remaining accessible and pertinent to the general reader. Featuring interviews with leading architects such as Frank Gehry and Paul Chemetov, technical explanations by the engineers who designed the building, historical essays, and a flash code to additional online content, the book also includes a diverse range of illustrations-from the Jardin d'Acclimation's archival drawings, to ground plans, elevations, spectacular views of the construction site, and 3-D simulations, as well as formal portraits of the construction workers by Charles Fréger. Together, the rich ensemble of elements demonstrates the vibrant atmosphere of this creative laboratory. The volume unveils itself little by little, just like Frank Gehry's edifice itself, revealing surprise after surprise in accordance with an unwavering, strong, and coherence design principle.
