Parade sauvage est le huitième roman de William Golding. Comme ceux qui l'ont précédé, il se singularise par l'originalité de la pensée et de l'expression. Mais plus encore que les autres, il s'éloigne du banal et de l'ordinaire pour plonger au coeur d'un univers fantastique où le réel est illusoire et l'illusion réalité. Qui est, en réalité, ce Matty, né des flammes du Blitz et personnage clé du roman ? Un être psychotique en quête de son identité, ou bien un prophète inspiré ? Dans le monde que l'auteur nous dépeint, où l'amour est sans cesse détourné de son objet véritable, où Sebastian Pedigree aime les petits garçons, Sophy son père et Sim Goodchild ses petites voisines... Les personnages se détruisent les uns les autres et s'autodétruisent avec fureur. Leurs vies se confondent dans un tourbillon de cruauté, de terreur et de mystère. Parade sauvage est une oeuvre troublante, complexe, où se mêlent réalisme et poésie. Comme toujours, Golding y exprime l'intérêt profond qu'il porte à l'homme ; mais, cette fois, il mène ses personnages au bout de leur destin, dans le climat lourd et maléfique d'un monde décadent.

One Artist on Five Continents
Elisabet Delbrück (1876-1967) was one of a number of Germans who came to New Zealand in the late 1930s. Unlike most, she had not intended to emigrate but was touring the country when World War II broke out. She was at first forbidden to leave and then chose to remain in Wellington. Her thirty years in Mahina Bay on Wellington harbour had a profound effect on all who knew her. This study aims to discover why she was so remarkable. It explores her early life, her marriage into a prominent German family and her qualification as an artist. She turned this into a profession, teaching and exhibiting on five continents in the 1920s and 1930s. She always travelled alone, observing the customs and beliefs of the people she met. In Australia and New Zealand in 1938 and 1939 she was wrongly suspected of spreading Nazi propaganda. Her story is also the story of a heroic group of Wellingtonians who helped her in the 1940s and valued her friendship till her death.

This all-new practical edition facilitates both study and performance, giving a wide audience of musicians, scholars, students, and enthusiasts alike greater insight into the Gershwins' art. The goal is to create clear and definitive publications that achieve the most accurate representations possible of the Gershwin brothers' unique and pioneering creativity. This all-new critical edition of the original 1924 arrangement of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue presents an authoritative transcription of arranger Ferde Grofé's handwritten holograph score preserved in the collection of the United States Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The edition represents as best as possible the piece as premiered by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra at his "Experiment in Modern Music" concert on February 12, 1924. Grofé prepared the score for the specific talents and timbres of the Whiteman Orchestra, largely from an ink fair copy of Gershwin's two-piano short-score manuscript. Hilma af Klint. The Five Notebook 1
In 1896, Hilma af Klint and four other like-minded women artists left the Edelweiss Society and founded the "Friday Group", also known as "The Five". They met every Friday for spiritual meetings, including prayers, studies of the New Testament, meditation and séances. The medium exercised automatic writing and mediumistic drawing. Eventually they established contact with spiritual beings whom they called "The High Ones". In 1896, the five women began taking meticulous notes of the mediumistic messages conveyed by the spirits. In time, Hilma af Klint felt she had been selected for more important messages. After ten years of esoteric training with "The Five", aged 43, Hilma af Klint accepted a major assignment, the execution of The Paintings for the Temple. This commission, which engaged the artist from 1906 to 1915, changed the course of her life. In 1908, Rudolf Steiner, leader of the German Theosophical Society, held several lectures in Stockholm. He also visited af Klint's studio and saw some of the early Paintings for the Temple. In 1913, Steiner founded the Anthroposophical Society, which af Klint joined in 1920 and remained a member for the rest of her life.

Thinking about Physics
Physical scientists are problem solvers. They are comfortable "doing" science: they find problems, solve them, and explain their solutions. Roger Newton believes that his fellow physicists might be too comfortable with their roles as solvers of problems. He argues that physicists should spend more time thinking about physics. If they did, he believes, they would become even more skilled at solving problems and "doing" science. As Newton points out in this thought-provoking book, problem solving is always influenced by the theoretical assumptions of the problem solver. Too often, though, he believes, physicists haven't subjected their assumptions to thorough scrutiny. Newton's goal is to provide a framework within which the fundamental theories of modem physics can be explored, interpreted, and understood.
"Surely physics is more than a collection of experimental results, assembled to satisfy the curiosity of appreciative experts," Newton writes. Physics, according to Newton, has moved beyond the describing and naming of curious phenomena, which is the goal of some other branches of science. Physicists have spent a great part of the twentieth century searching for explanations of experimental findings. Newton agrees that experimental facts are vital to the study of physics, but only because they lead to the development of a theory that can explain them. Facts, he argues, should undergird theory.
Newton's explanatory sweep is both broad and deep. He covers such topics as quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, field theory, thermodynamics, the role of mathematics in physics, and the concepts of probability and causality. For Newton the fundamental entity in quantum theory is the field, from which physicists can explain the particle-like and wave-like properties that are observed in experiments. He grounds his explanations in the quantum field.
Although this is not designed as a standalone textbook, it is essential reading for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and researchers. This is a clear, concise, up-to-date book about the concepts and theories that underlie the study of contemporary physics. This book deals with métissage in New France and Canada in the period 1508 to 1886. Métissage is understood as a syncretistic process of cultural, social and political encounter and mixture of ethnic groups that resulted from mixed marriages and relationships. Those led to the rise of the Métis people in North America, which were distinguished as French-speaking Métis and English-speaking Halfbreeds. The process of mixture began in 1508, when first Indians were shipped to France with the intention to use them as multipliers of French culture on their return to the colony. In 1886, the Act of Savages legally distinguished between "Indians" and "Metis", thus marking the beginning of a mixed-blood identity in Canada that was differentiated from neighbouring Whites, Indians and Inuit. The theoretical approach of the history of concepts is employed in the longue durée to show the variance throughout four centuries.

She bears witness to the oppressive policies of the fascist government in Portugal in the 1960's and 1970's and the effects of displacement and exile, by reconstructing her own passage from India to Mozambique and finally to Australia. Further, the author shows the devastation that labels such as ‘half-caste', ‘canecos' and ‘monhe' can cause, when they eat at your flesh, your being, and your body. Christophe Acker, réalisateur, signe la résidence de cette dixième édition et propose un film qui appréhende la ville de Vichy à travers la danse et le mouvement afin de la considérer comme un corps et un système vivant. Le coeur de la ville, ses artères, son centre névralgique, ses parcs et jardins comme ses poumons, autant de métaphores organicistes et même animistes qui assimilent l'espace urbain à un organisme, aussi bien d'un point de vue physique que fonctionnel, et dont Christophe Acker se sert pour créer une pulsation dans la ville. Accompagné de la chorégraphe Johana Malédon, il est allé d'un quartier à l'autre à la rencontre des Vichyssois, des élèves d'écoles de danse, et d'une cavalière, déplaçant les lignes et mettant en lumière les liens qui s'opèrent entre mouvement des corps et lignes architecturales. Sa proposition offre un regard singulier sur la ville. La résidence photographique est confiée cette année au réalisateur Français Christophe Acker qui a travaillé, avec des élèves d'écoles de danse de Vichy, une cavalière et une acrobate, à l'étonnante proposition d'une visite "dansée" de la ville, à travers un film projeté au palais des Congrès et des photographies présentés sur le parvis de la gare.
