RoferonÎ-A in Chronic Viral Hepatitis
Chronic liver infection due to viral hepatitis B and C is a major public health problem. Worldwide, an estimated 750 million people are carriers of these two viruses. Alpha-interferons, such as RoferonI-A, are currently the therapy of choice in chronic viral hepatitis B and C. They are effective in preventing disease progression and life-threatening sequelae : liver cirrhosis, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, and variceal hemorrhage and/or hepatocellular carcinoma. On the other hand, discussion has been raised on the potentially enormous cost impact of these genetically engineered drugs in the treatment of an already costly disease. This study identifies and evaluates the long-term clinical and economic effects of RoferonI-A treatment in chronic viral hepatitis B and C over a time period of 10 to 20 years. Clinical and epidemiological data, as well as the detailed health care resource use and cost assessment, reflect the clinical and economic reality in Germany in 1993. A Markov model is used to predict the long-term clinical benefits of RoferonI-A therapy in terms of reduced morbidity and mortality. Based on this, direct costs, savings, and cost-effectiveness are analysed, including : RoferonI-A therapy initiation and follow-up, physician services, laboratory services, medicotechnical services, drug therapy, hospitalization as well as surgical interventions (liver transplantations).

Why We Are Not What We Think We Are
Questions about personal identity and about time affect us all. The concern for "our" future and the fear of "our" death are based on (mostly vague) concepts of personal identity over time. Though the atomic components of our present body are not identical with the ones shown on our childhood photos, we have no doubts in recognizing ourselves on those pictures. Similarly, we are convinced that "we" will be able to recognize "ourselves" on our present passport-photos even in the future. Is this confidence justified ? If it is not, our conception of life and death would be as faulty as was the image of the universe in the Middle Ages.

Début 1963, les fondations de l'ère Marvel sont posées. Après les Quatre Fantastiques en 1961, la maison présente l'extraordinaire (Spider-Man), le stupéfiant (Ant-Man), l'étrange (Docteur Strange), l'incroyable (Hulk), l'invincible (Iron Man) et le puissant (Thor). L'éditeur de Marvel Stan Lee trouve cependant qu'il manque encore quelque chose. "J'écrivais ces personnages et je me suis dit que ce serait amusant de les rassembler dans une équipe," se souvenait-il. C'est ainsi que Lee et l'artiste Jack Kirby réunirent Iron Man, Ant-Man et la Guêpe, Thor et Hulk pour former les Avengers.
Dès ses premiers pas, l'équipe tranche sur ses prédécesseurs. Si les Quatre Fantastiques étaient une famille, les Avengers sont des collègues par obligation. L'entente ne règne pas entre tous ses membres, mais en unissant leurs forces ils parviennent à vaincre les pires méchants de Marvel, comme Loki, Kang le Conquérant alias Immortus et les Maîtres du Mal. La composition de l'équipe change en permanence : Hulk s'en va, Captain America arrive et Ant-Man se mue en Giant-Man. Quand soudain, les méchants Hawkeye, Vif-Argent et la Sorcière rouge deviennent les nouveaux héros vengeurs et les membres fondateurs du groupe disparaissent du jour au lendemain, laissant Captain America à la tête d'un groupe tout neuf.
Retrouvez ces classiques que sont les vingt premières aventures des Avengers dans une édition format XXL, plus grosse que le poing de Hulk, plus lourde que le marteau de Thor et plus riche en accessoires que l'armure d'Iron Man. Plutôt que de recolorer les oeuvres originales (méthode la plus appliquée pour rééditer des comics jusqu'alors), TASCHEN a voulu créer une reproduction idéale de ces revues en retrouvant leur aspect originel. Les exemplaires les mieux conservés ont été aplatis et photographiés en étroite collaboration avec Marvel et la Certified Guaranty Company. Chaque page a été photographiée telle qu'elle fut imprimée il y a plus d'un demi-siècle, puis ces clichés ont été numérisés et retouchés avec les outils les plus modernes pour corriger les défauts liés à la piètre qualité du papier et des encres employées à l'époque. . . Tous chauds, comme s'ils sortaient des meilleurs presses des années 1960.

Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed. Edition français-anglais-allemand
Dans cet ouvrage, le photographe Frédéric Chaubin dévoile 90 bâtiments situés dans 14 anciennes républiques soviétiques qui témoignent de ce que l'on pourrait considérer comme la quatrième époque de l'architecture soviétique. Ses images poétiques révèlent une renaissance inattendue de l'imagination, un bourgeonnement jusqu'ici inconnu qui s'est développé de 1970 à 1990. Contrairement aux années 1920 et 1930, on ne distingue ici ni "école" ni tendance dominante. Ces constructions représentent un élan chaotique provoqué par un système qui tombait en décrépitude. Leur diversité annonce la fin de l'Union soviétique. Profitant de l'effondrement de cette structure monolithique, des trous dans le filet qui devenait plus lâche, des architectes ont revisité toutes les périodes et tous les styles, remontant aux sources ou innovant librement. Certains audacieux réalisèrent des projets qui auraient fait rêver les constructivistes (le sanatorium de Druzhba, à Yalta), d'autres ont laissé parler leur imagination d'une manière expressionniste (le Palais du mariage de Tbilissi). Une colonie de vacances, inspirée d'esquisses d'un prototype de base lunaire revendique son influence suprématiste (camp de jeunes Prométhée, à Bogatyr). Sans oublier l' "architecture parlante" qui s'est généralisée pendant les dernières années de l'URSS : un crématorium orné de flammes de béton (crématorium de Kiev), un institut technologique avec une soucoupe volante écrasée sur le toit (institut de Kiev), un centre politique qui vous observe comme Big Brother (la maison des soviets de Kaliningrad). Ce puzzle de styles témoigne de tous les rêves idéologiques de cette période, de l'obsession du cosmos à la renaissance de la vie privée, tout en soulignant la géographie de l'URSS, montrant comment les influences locales ont apporté leurs détournements exotiques avant de porter le coup fatal à ce pays. Oaths, Vows and Promises in the first Part of the French Prose Lancelot Romance
This book examines the narrative use made of oaths, vows and promises in a thirteenth-century work of fictional literature, reviewing the textual prominence accorded them by the writer in the light of legal texts of the Middle Ages that deal with the same subject. Medieval society had to deal with highly complex problems that arose out of the central importance accorded the given word. Jurists wrestled with the problems in an attempt to solve them ; the writer of a work of narrative fiction can explore such problems in terms of human drama. The writer of the prose Lancelot was clearly aware of the legal debate, and he used both the characters and plot of his fictional text to construct narrative sequences that allowed him to depict the moral and psychological perplexities that faced both society and individuals over these matters.

A multitude of Sins. Richard Ford
A sequel to Rock Springs and Women with Men, the collection of short stories entitled A Multitude of Sins was published in 2001 and immediately achieved worldwide recognition. If this series of ten short stories seems to feature adultery, it would be a major mistake to believe that the stories can be reduced to what is actually a side issue or a pretext to something else, sometimes of much greater importance. As often with great writers, Richard Ford tackles several other topics along with the sin of unfaithfulness which is a base camp from which to go further up into the knowledge of human deficiency, lack and want. Pondering these sins, Richard Ford lays them all bare while often unveiling the issue of the story right from the beginning, instead of cautiously preserving it as a last chance literary trick to pull it off at the fast moment. Showing insight through observation, his writing is deceptive in as much as it seems natural and easygoing when it requires close analysis and several successive readings to yield up its literary and humane secrets. The comparison some critics have made to Chekhov is not overblown and Agregation students, certainly among the most perceptive readers in the world, should naturally enjoy both reading and studying A Multitude of Sins, pleasure and scholarship being complementary, not antagonistic. The exclusive interview of Richard Ford at the end of the book will certainly be appreciated by Agregation students, who will thus be able to finish off their knowledge of Ford's works.

Exactly this is the question of the diaconical dimension of the church : the question of how much love (in terms of mercy and justice) and freedom (to the individual and to society) are being spread by the churches in this world. Theologically this book refers not only to the biblical foundations but also to the latest theology of the II Vatican Council (and of the appropriate understanding of the term "Evangelization") within the Catholic Church, without suggesting that this theological position is something exclusive in the ecumenical sphere. Ce rare double portrait en pied vient seulement d'être attribué à Titien après avoir entrepris des analyses et une restauration minutieuses qui révèlent une belle peinture au style "non finito" avec de superbes touches d'empâtement totalement typiques au maître. Tout ceci est illustré et développé dans ce nouveau livre. Titian provided portraits for the greatest men and women of Europe, Charles V and Philip II of Spain primary among them. For years the Klesch portrait was dismissed as a workshop product - partly because poor condition hid its true quality, but also because it was not believed that Titian could have deigned to create one for Guidobaldo, whose father Guidobaldo della Rovere (1514-1574) and family had a long history of patronizing the artist. Recent research, however, has thrown Guidobaldo's geopolitical significance into relief. He was supreme commander of Venice, the Papal States and then Spain. He sent thousands of soldiers to the major conflicts of his day, particularly the defense of Malta (1565) and the Battle of Lepanto (1571) and his engineers were sought throughout Europe for their ingenuity. In this volume full of new research, Ian Verstegen reveals that Guidobaldo was not peripheral but central to Italian politics and was regarded at several points in history as a key figure who could bring peace or who could influence major conflicts on the Italian peninsula, particularly the War of Siena, and then Pope Paul IV's offensive war against Spain. Anne-Marie Eze gives the first comprehensive examination of the painting's provenance, outlining the portrait's vicissitudes and reception at different moments in its near 500-year history, reexamining received wisdom about its past ownership, and presenting new documentary evidence to expand on and fill gaps in our knowledge of its whereabouts. Finally, Matthew Hayes and Ian Kennedy reflect on the technique, date, recent conservation, and authorship of the painting, proving it to be a masterpiece that only the great Titian could have created.

Klimonas. Un village néolithique pré-céramique ancien à Chypre, Textes en français et anglais
Klimonas An Early Pre-Pottery Neolithic Village in Cyprus Un village néolithique pré-céramique ancien à Chypre Klimonas is the oldest Mediterranean island village. Occupied ca. 8 800 cal BC, it postpones by several centuries the Neolithic presence in Cyprus, at that time located more than 80 km offshore. The village extended over more than 5, 500 mC, facing the sea, 2 km from the famous pre-pottery site of Shillourokambos and near rich flint outcrops. Excavations (2009-2016) revealed that it was composed of circular or oval earthen buildings 3-6 m in diameter, notched into the slope, modestly fitted out and organised around a semi-buried 10 m communal building. The construction techniques, the abundance of either knapped or polished stone material, together with ornaments, symbolic objects, and plants and animal remains, as well as the 52 radiometric dates, point to the end of the Levantine Pre-Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA). The presence of a communal building, rebuilt numerous times over the course of several decades, also points to the same conclusion. The villagers gathered seeds and fruits and cultivated wild starch and einkorn, recently imported from the continent. They primarily hunted small endemic wild boar, the only large mammal species attested on the island at that time and, secondarily, birds. They did not eat fish or marine shellfish. Domestic dogs, mice and cats brought from the continent also lived in the village. The remains of this cultivator-hunter community testify to the early extension of the Near Eastern Neolithic and to unsuspected seafaring skills, substantially improving our knowledge of the Neolithic transition in the Mediterranean. Klimonas est le plus ancien village insulaire de Méditerranée. Occupé autour de 8 800 av. n. è. , il recule de plusieurs siècles le début de la présence néolithique à Chypre, à cette époque déjà située à plus de 80 km du continent. Le village s'étendait sur 5 500 mC au moins, face à la mer, à 2 km du célèbre site pré-céramique de Shillourokambos et au contact de riches sources de silex. Les fouilles (2009-2016) ont montré qu'il était composé d'édifices de terre crue (bauge) de 3 à 6 m de diamètre, circulaires ou ovalaires, encochés dans la pente, modestement aménagés, organisés autour d'un bâtiment communautaire semi-enterré de 10 m de diamètre. Les techniques de construction, l'abondant mobilier de pierre taillée, le macro-outillage, les parures et objets symboliques, les restes de plantes et les ossements animaux, tout comme les 52 datations radiométriques renvoient à la fin du Néolithique pré-céramique A levantin (PPNA). La présence d'un bâtiment communautaire, plusieurs fois reconstruit en quelques décennies, le confirme. Les villageois pratiquaient la cueillette et cultivaient l'amidonnier et l'engrain sauvages, récemment importés du continent. Ils chassaient un petit sanglier endémique, seule espèce de grand mammifère attestée sur l'île à cette époque, et, secondairement, des oiseaux. Poissons et coquillages marins n'étaient pas consommés. Des chiens domestiques, des souris et des chats de souche continentale vivaient dans le village. Les vestiges de cette communauté d'agriculteurs-chasseurs témoignent de l'extension précoce du premier Néolithique du Proche-Orient et d'une maîtrise insoupçonnée de la navigation. Il enrichit de manière substantielle nos connaissances sur la transition néolithique en Méditerranée.

Scripture and Midrash in Judaism
The rabbis of late antiquity produced a score of exegesis of the Hebrew Scriptures of Ancient Israel ("the Old Testament"), in which they took various approaches to the study and interpretation of what they called "the written Torah". These exegesis, called collectively "Midrash", form an important part of "the oral Torah", that is, the tradition of Sinai formulated and transmitted for memorization and ultimately written down by the ancient sages in the first six centuries A.D. These three volumes present large selections of the Midrash-documents of ancient Judaism, in the translation of Jacob Neusner, who has now translated into English nearly all of the Rabbinic literature of late antiquity. The selections are organized by type, so that readers see the various ways in which, in form and in intellectual program, the documents of Midrash-compilation were formulated and set forth. In this way, the vast body of biblical exegesis put forth by Judaism in its formative age is made available to the contemporary reader.

La Rose de Daraya T2
Octobre 2011 Le peuple syrien descend dans la rue depuis bientôt 8 mois malgré les disparitions, les meurtres et les opérations de répression exercés par le régime tyrannique de Bachar Al Assad. Daraya vient d'enterrer Ghyiath Matar enlevé le 6 septembre par les forces de sécurité syrienne. Son corps mutilé a été rendu à sa famille quelques jours après sa disparition. Son exécution a ému l'opinion internationale et plusieurs ambassadeurs étrangers étaient présents lors de ses funérailles. Activiste pacifiste, Ghyiath Matar avait organisé des manifestations avec son ami Yahya Shurbaji depuis le mois de mars en distribuant des fleurs et des bouteilles d'eau à l'armée syrienne (cf tome 1) Samy et Isam font leur entrée au lycée. C'est l'année du bac. C'est aussi celle de la grève de la dignité. Ce mouvement issu des comités de coordination est un appel à la résistance non violente dans tout le pays. Les objectifs sont clairs : affaiblir et obtenir la chute du gouvernement en créant la désobéissance civile. La grève s'établit en 6 étapes. La première est celle de la grève des écoles ; l'occasion pour Isam et Samy de sécher les cours tout en s'engageant dans la lutte avec d'autres étudiants. L'occasion pour le régime de s'engouffrer dans l'escalade de la violence et de la répression en tout impunité.
