Disputes on human rights violation before the ecowas court of justice
Mandated to make judgments on human rights cases since 2005, the ECOWAS Court of Justice has undeniably acquired the reputation of a forum for human rights protection, in the manner of courts of justice as prestigious as the European Court of Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights or the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. With no systematic study of the Court's human rights jurisprudence having been undertaken till today, this work comes to fill the gap. Part I of the book presents the body of case law emerging after fifteen years of practice. Two feats must be acknowledged here. The feat of the Court itself, whose original mandate was, and is still in force any rate, that of a custodian of the norms of economic integration, not adjudication on human rights violation. The human rights case law of the Court was therefore born out of a sustained effort, not devoid of approximations and sometimes mistakes, all the more deserving of commendation, because unlike similarjudicial bodies, it had succeeded in ridding itself of what the author calls "a pointer of orientation for the norms relied upon", a single codified body of rules of reference. Then, the exploits of the author, who succeeded, in an effort of re-composition, in sustaining, by a consummate art of summary, a reconstitution of the various phases of the trial proceedings, and in retrieving and discussing in a systematic manner, the viewpoints of the Court. Part II is made up of a collection of studies whose themes centre on the major interrogations of international disputes on human rights : the status of the applicants, relations between the Court and other sister or rival courts of justice, the dialectics of relationship between the national judge and the international judge, etc. Part II closes up with a prospective reflexion on "The Future of the Court", where the author expresses his hopes, but also his serious concerns regarding what is to become of a court whose usefulness and cathartic function are not lost on him. The book is, as always, written in pure delightful language, and the analyses, nourished with the experience of the judge that the author was, are remarkable in richness, finesse and depth.

Car si, pour son père, elle est Emma, aux yeux de sa mère, de ses cousins et des amis d'autrefois, en revanche, elle était quelqu'un d'autre - elle était la petite Saylor, même si ce ne fut que le temps d'un été. Et c'est ce passé enfoui qu'elle va redécouvrir comme un trésor. Un parquet qui grince sous ses pas, une odeur familière... Elle qui ne se rappelle pas même le visage de sa grand-mère se rend compte qu'elle connaît cet endroit. Elle retrouve sa cousine, qui joue avec le feu comme la mère d'Emma avant elle, et Roo, le garçon dont elle était inséparable enfant. Tel un détective, elle va remonter le temps en arrière, pour découvrir non seulement qui elle est, mais aussi quelle adolescente a été sa mère. Car avant de tomber amoureuse d'un fils de famille privilégié, celle-ci a perdu son meilleur ami dans un étrange accident de bateau à moteur... Un roman de Sarah Dessen n'est jamais, jamais une déception. La reine de la fiction young adult observe les mouvements du coeur d'un adolescente dans la tourmente avec une justesse stupéfiante - ce qui fait dire à tout le milieu littéraire aux Etats-Unis qu'elle est, ni plus ni moins, une rock star. Emotion à fleur de peau et regard acéré sur les choses : venez savourer en sa compagnie une gourmandise à nulle autre pareille...

They say life is a long stretch of a calm river, but not for everyone ! She was for me until the day when everything rocked, the day my destiny was changed dramatically. People do not realize how life can be so sweet and so beautiful. They complain all day long for trivialities. They are not even aware that they have before their eyes the most beautiful wealth : the luck and happiness of living in good health. I was rich before. Now I am poor because my child has an incurable disease, that has currently no hope of being healed. As a parent, how can we accept that ? , How to continue living carrying the bundle of pain in my head ? , How to overcome this feeling of helplessness ? When I started speaking to my heart, I didn't know myself that this was the beginning of a new life : a rebirth as a poet. When I learnt that my 7-year-old daughter was suffering from the Dravet Syndrome, a rare genetic epileptic encephalopathy, this was like an earthquake in my life. Then, I needed to write in order to express my sorrow and my pain. Words and rhymes came naturally to my mind. This was obvious that poetry would be my survival weapon.

Leokadiya Kashperova (1872-1940), hitherto consigned to a footnote in musical history as Stravinsky's piano teacher, is undergoing rediscovery. A double graduate of the St Petersburg Conservatoire, she emerged as a virtuoso pianist and composer in the romantic tradition. She was associated with some of the great musicians of her day, including Balakirev and Auer. She performed in both Germany and the UK in the 1900s, but her career petered out after 1920. Songs of Love was first published in 1904. No evidence survives of any public performance in Kashperova's lifetime although it is very likely that they were performed at her regular 'musical evenings at home on Tuesdays' mentioned in her Memoirs. The transparency of the piano writing strongly suggests that she would accompany herself singing. Kashperova, by all accounts, possessed a fine voice, and in the summer of 1906 she decided 'to learn from the artistry', as she put it, of the tenor Raimond von Zur-Mühlen who was widely celebrated for having developed (with Clara Schumann) the Lieder-Abend tradition. His summer-schools on the Baltic coast were frequented by aspiring singers from all over Europe, even Japan and India. Kashperova herself was responsible for the poetic lyrics of Songs of Love (in both Russian and German), which may well have emerged from her own bittersweet experience of life and love ; she was not to marry until 1916 at the age of forty-four. That Kashperova is the author of both the music and the lyrics of Songs of Love would suggest that they express very personal sentiments. Instrumentation : soprano (tenor) and piano

Does it merely consist in interpreting the non-Christian religions as steps, phases or contributions in the light of Christianity ? Has one from the theological side conceded the maximum to the non-Christian religions by acknowledging them as anonymous Christianity (Karl Rahner)? This study is an exploration on how one shall liberate the religion of the other from anonymity : how one shall leave the other with his/her own name. The model of thought employed in this study is gained through an analysis of the intercultural process of understanding, explained with instances from Africa and South America.

This work helps us to realise that wherever we are, we are a part of nature. All the things around us are as presences, representing forces and powers of life that are not ours and yet are all part of us. Then we find them reflecting in ourselves, because we are nature, though not identical with it.

The Image of the Woman in the Works of Ingeborg Bachmann
In this study an analysis of the women characters, who play a dominant part in Bachmann's prose writings, was presented. The results suggested a complex but coherent image. It was found that although the characteristics of this image deserved the appellation "sex-specific" and "traditional" they were infused with new values : the values of individualism, of a specifically female identity and of particular intense personal freedom. It was also found that the theme of personal freedom underlies all motivations, conflicts and situations of tragedy of Bachmann's heroines. Finally, it was found that the image of the woman is not only part of a distinct female-male antithesis, which often assumes violent dimensions, but has a redeeming function for a de-humanized world.

What do Christopher Columbus, Reneke, Zénobe Gramme and Louis Pasteur have in common ? They were all inventors. Well fine, but who invented the crab's claw, the suction cups and the flight of squids or the proboscis of blood sucking insects ? Is invention intellectual fantasy, an industrial tool or a fundamental biological reaction ? How is this riddle to be solved ? Should we go through the list of inventions or inventors ? Is it a question of circumstances or motivations ? Who is in charge ? The Material or the Spirit ? In order to try to find a way of answering these questions, first a few very different inventors and their inventions will be presented. A few paradoxes emerge from this first part. Then we will devote an entire chapter to an exceptional inventor whose extraordinary work revolutionized how we now approach this topic. Finally, what can be said about all the inventions like the wings of birds or butterflies, the eyes of fish or insects, the leaves of trees or the social organization of beehives ? In these cases, man is not the inventor. There are countless marvels like these in the world around us. Can we explain them ? This will be the subject of the third part of this essay.

Les secrets de la Maison-Blanche. Secrets of the Secret Service
Sans aucun rapport avec les services secrets chargés de l'espionnage, le Secret Service des Etats-Unis est principalement responsable de la sécurité du Président, de sa famille et de hautes personnalités politiques. Fondé il y a plus de 150 ans, ce service n'a cessé de se développer, principalement lorsqu'un président était assassiné ou qu'il y avait tentative d'assassinat. Logiquement, cette agence fédérale au budget colossal aurait dû s'améliorer mais c'est exactement le contraire qui s'est passé. Ses maux internes n'ont fait que s'aggraver : surcharge de travail, rivalité entre les différents services, priorité des agents sur les officiers, culture du secret, parfois même corruption. Les nombreux exemples donnés par l'auteur, Gary J. Byrne, lui-même ancien du Secret Service, sont ahurissants. Et sa conclusion est formelle : s'il n'y a pas très vite de changements en profondeur, un autre président américain sera assassiné. Et si ce n'est pas Trump, ce sera le suivant !

En Colombie Britannique (Canada), depuis 1969, c'est-à-dire pendant plus de 50 ans, les meurtres vont s'étaler dans le temps. Des dizaines de femmes et de filles vont disparaître, quelques unes seront retrouvées mortes, dispersées le long de ce que l'on appelle désormais "l'autoroute des larmes" . Disparitions et crimes en majeure partie non élucidés. Ainsi ce transport ne sera en rien la description pittoresque du Grand Nord. Roy nous met à l'épreuve de percevoir, depuis des lieux vides en eux-mêmes et sans vie apparente, une humanité sacrifiée et reléguée. Face au déni d'une société, le rôle que Kourtney Roy accorde à la photographie est de s'attacher, malgré tout, à partager une douleur et à faire ressentir une tension qui ne peut trouver d'exutoire que dans le drame.
