Coopération, gouvernance, territoires et transition énergétique
Les nouveaux systèmes énergétiques qui se mettent en place dans le cadre de la transition énergétique nécessitent plus de coopération, plus de partenariats entre des partenaires de statuts plus variés (entreprises publiques, privées, coopératives, ...), et plus de coordination pour une gestion efficace des réseaux. Les collectivités locales y ont un rôle croissant à jouer et se sont d'ailleurs vu déléguer de nouvelles compétences en matière énergétique. Les textes rassemblés dans ce livre analysent les nouvelles configurations technico-institutionnelles qui articulent l'action de nombreuses parties-prenantes, tant au Nord qu'au Sud, et nécessitent de ce fait une gouvernance renouvelée et complexe. Sur tous les territoires, que ce soit en Savoie ou au Sénégal ou à Grenoble, en Europe ou en Afrique, la transition énergétique mobilise des acteurs diversifiés et impose de renouveler les formes d'actions. Ces mutations nécessitent de nouvelles formes de coopération et de gouvernance. Sont tour à tour évoqués le rôle que peuvent jouer les Communes, les Communautés de communes, les Métropoles, mais aussi des coopératives, des ONG, des fondations d'entreprise, etc. et les coordinations qui se mettent en place dans le cadre de PTCE, de SCIC, de PACET, et autres plans d'action. Les contraintes techniques, avec la nécessité de mettre en place des smart grids, contribuent également à cette incontournable redistribution des rôles.

The Concept of Man in Igbo Myths
In the vast silence of their isolation, the traditional Igbos have learnt the ways of living in harmony with nature. From their origin in distant time, they have kept a sacred perspective on the natural world. In our age, there is the need for traditional wisdoms to retain their validity and be intrinsic to our philosophic and scientific perceptions of the cosmos. We cannot do without their knowledge, their spiritual perspective, and their deep faith in the harmony of all nature. Ignoring these qualities has profound environmental implications. Global warming, environmental pollution, and the exhaustion of nature's resources are but a few of the symptoms of the nature's experiences as we continue to mistreat it in order to satisfy our own ends. This work helps us to realise that wherever we are, we are a part of nature. All the things around us are as presences, representing forces and powers of life that are not ours and yet are all part of us. Then we find them reflecting in ourselves, because we are nature, though not identical with it.

The artist Patrick Hourcade met Karl Lagerfeld in 1976, initiating a friendship that would last more than twenty years, nourished by a shared passion for the arts of the eighteenth century. What do Christopher Columbus, Reneke, Zénobe Gramme and Louis Pasteur have in common ? They were all inventors. Well fine, but who invented the crab's claw, the suction cups and the flight of squids or the proboscis of blood sucking insects ? Is invention intellectual fantasy, an industrial tool or a fundamental biological reaction ? How is this riddle to be solved ? Should we go through the list of inventions or inventors ? Is it a question of circumstances or motivations ? Who is in charge ? The Material or the Spirit ? In order to try to find a way of answering these questions, first a few very different inventors and their inventions will be presented. A few paradoxes emerge from this first part. Then we will devote an entire chapter to an exceptional inventor whose extraordinary work revolutionized how we now approach this topic. Finally, what can be said about all the inventions like the wings of birds or butterflies, the eyes of fish or insects, the leaves of trees or the social organization of beehives ? In these cases, man is not the inventor. There are countless marvels like these in the world around us. Can we explain them ? This will be the subject of the third part of this essay.

Peter Doig
Accompanying a major exhibition of new and recent works by Peter Doig at The Courtauld, London, this publication will present an exciting new chapter in the career of one of the most celebrated and important painters working today and will include paintings and works on paper created since the artist's move from Trinidad to London in 2021. Doig (born Edinburgh, 1959) is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading artists. He secured his early reputation in the 1990s as a highly original figurative painter, producing large-scale, immersive landscape paintings that exist somewhere between actual places and the realms of the imagination. Layered into his paintings is a rich array of inspirations, such as scenes from films, album covers, and the art of the past. His works are often related to the places where he has lived and worked, including the UK, Canada and Trinidad. In 2021, Doig moved back to London where he has set up a new studio. This new studio has become the crucible for developing paintings started in Trinidad and New York and elsewhere, which are being worked up alongside completely fresh paintings, including a new London subject. The works produced for the exhibition at The Courtauld convey this particularly creative experience of transition, as Doig explores a rich variety of places, people, memories and ways of painting that have accompanied him to his new London studio. For Doig, printmaking is an integral part of his artistic life : his prints and his paintings often work in dialogue with one another. The catalogue will also showcase the artist's work as a draughtsman and printmaker by exploring a series of his new and recent drawing and prints, allowing readers to consider the full span of Doig's creative process. Doig has long admired the collection of The Courtauld Gallery. The Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists who are at its heart have been a touchstone for his own painting and printmaking over the course of his career. His works presented here will reflect his current artistic preoccupations, from remarkable landscapes to monumental figure paintings. Readers will be able to consider Doig's contemporary works in the light of paintings by earlier artists in The Courtauld's collection that are important for him, such as those by Cézanne, Gauguin, Manet, Monet, Pissarro and Van Gogh. The publication will explore how Doig recasts and reinvents traditions and practices of painting to create his own highly distinctive works.

Pourquoi écrire ? Tant d'autres l'ont déjà fait, avec un talent fou. On prend le risque de s'exposer à la critique de son for intérieur, d'être incompris par ses proches et de se décevoir. Les auteurs qu'il monte, d'Euripide à Cixous, sont les classiques d'hier (Racine, Tchekhov, Claudel) ou d'aujourd'hui (Duras, Brisville, Dubillard). On lui doit la mise en scène d'une quinzaine d'opéras aussi différents que Le Grand Macabre de Ligeti, Le Ring de Wagner ou La Flûte enchantée de Mozart. Il a dirigé, outre sa compagnie, deux grands théâtres nationaux et, depuis 2007, le Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique. Au théâtre, au cinéma ou à la télévision, il a été Napoléon, Berlioz, Léon Blum, Descartes et même Billy the Kid... Acteur viscéral, metteur en scène effervescent, auteur et récitant, Daniel Mesguich est tout cela. Au fil de ces entretiens, il évoque son enfance dans l'Alger de Camus, les années sans le sou à Marseille, la découverte simultanée de Sartre, Dylan, Ferré, Marx et Gérard Philipe, l'arrivée à Paris et l'amitié d'Antoine Vitez, ses premières mises en scène de Kafka et Marivaux, les années de triomphe et de scandale d'Avignon à Pékin. Mais aussi son travail avec François Truffaut, Romy Schneider ou Bernard Rapp et la rencontre sans cesse répétée, sur la route d'Elseneur, d'un certain Hamlet, prince de Danemark... Plus qu'un iconoclaste, animé par la passion de "faire penser le texte", Daniel Mesguich se révèle un amoureux du verbe, des acteurs et de leurs rêves. Un artiste, avant tout.

Artiste du peuple
Ce livre est la très attachante autobiographie d'un danseur né en Chine, en 1966, au début de la Révolution culturelle, dans une famille d'acteurs. Issu des milieux les plus pauvres d'une des provinces chinoises les plus reculées, Gang Peng réussit à s'élever et à gravir la plus haute marche, celle de l'académie de danse de Pékin, qu'il intègre en 1987. Il y restera quatre ans et deviendra l'un des plus grands artistes de sa génération. Vedette de la première troupe chinoise à se produire en France, en 1993, il est repéré par le Ballet atlantique, Centre chorégraphique national, de La Rochelle, qui lui propose de le rejoindre. Il y restera cinq ans et dansera avec lui sur tous les continents avant de fonder sa propre compagnie. Bien des livres ont été écrits sur la Chine de Mao. L'originalité de celui-ci tient au regard espiègle de Gang Peng et à sa façon savoureuse de décrire ce qu'il a vécu : les bagarres à l'école de la petite ville de Wuhe, les soirées au " théâtre du Peuple ", mais aussi la vie au conservatoire, avec ses intrigues de dortoir et le travail acharné pour devenir un " artiste au service du peuple ". Il y a un côté picaresque dans cette manière de raconter l'enfance puis l'adolescence prises dans les griffes de l'histoire. Malgré le dénuement, la faim qui taraude, la violence et les slogans permanents, ce jeune garçon naïf, mais très intelligent, parvient, grâce à une volonté peu commune, à traverser les années maoïstes et faire son éducation d'homme pour vivre et réussir.

"Quelle merveilleuse journée ! Idéale pour se promener les pattes à l'air", se dit Bob. Mais les moqueries viennent lui gâcher la balade... Trop maigres, les pattes de Bob ? C'est ce qu'on va voir ! Un très joli album qui aborde avec humour et dérision un thème fort et riche : l'image de soi (et la violence du regard des autres), et le fait de s'assumer tel que l'on est. La créativité et toutes les inspirations artistiques que l'on peut trouver sont aptes à transformer l'image que l'on a de soi, tout en modifiant l'image que les autres ont de nous, pour, au final, s'accepter pleinement !

Artiste et modèle
De la peinture et du réel, lequel de ces deux mondes est le plus plat ? Et quelle est notre place, dans cet aller et retour entre le corps des images et notre propre corps, dans cet intervalle ? Carol Snow déplie les épaisseurs de notre présence aux choses, dans les impressions fugaces, les bruits du matin, les mouvements et l'attente. Nous sommes entourés d'objets immobiles. Et de tableaux, on croise Matisse, Picasso, Cézanne, Giotto, dans cette "mémoire récurrente" de l'art. Les douleurs et les destinées se mêlent, qui souffre ? Est-ce notre souffrance dessinée sur la toile, ou celle des personnages muets ? Est-ce notre histoire ou la leur ? Artiste et modèle sonde la réciprocité, la coïncidence du réel et de la peinture, qui projette ses formes et ses couleurs sur notre vision du réel. Nous sommes des spectres dans les rues, parmi nos semblables, aux carrefours, à la piscine municipale. Alors que les tableaux se reflètent sur les murs du jardin, en touches de lumière. On remonte et on déploie le temps à l'intérieur de l'art, on suspend les images comme du linge à sécher dehors. On appréhende la dérive de la réalité, au fond de nos corps, de nos corps exprimés des autres. La mort n'est pas dans la peinture, mais dans les mauvaises herbes en décomposition dans le jardin, et "ce qui frissonne, c'est notre reflet" , dans la solitude des regards.

Réédition du plus autobiographique des romans de l’auteur, paru en 1958 et dédié à Antoine Blondin. La meilleure introduction à l’oeuvre d’un écrivain aujourd’hui oublié mais plus pour longtemps avec ce roman qui nous ramène en banlieue, la seule, la parisienne, avec son église kitsch, ses jardins boîte d’allumettes, ses cafés sans fin, ses cours d’eau qui se la coulent douce et ses boutiques à tout faire. Vidalie est un auteur aux yeux pers, l’un gris, terne et plombé, l’autre tout vert, clair et pétillant, d’où cette histoire qui roule toute seule, douloureuse et crépitante saga familiale où vont bras dessus, bras dessous, rêves éveillés et espoirs déçus, frais matins et retour de nuit.

Enrico Macias, Hugues Aufray, Louis Bertignac Annie Cordy, Frédéric François... Nombreux sont les artistes à avoir chanté les textes de Frédéric Zeitoun. Pour la première fois, il raconte son parcours hors du commun et les rencontres qui ont marqué sa carrière. " Les roues de mon fauteuil se sont toujours tournées vers le soleil ! " Depuis la naissance, Frédéric Zeitoun est paraplégique. Se déplacer en fauteuil roulant, à la force de ses biceps, n'a jamais empêché l'artiste de mener une vie " normale ", de se produire sur scène, de se marier, de devenir une figure familière du petit écran, d'écrire des chansons et même d'enregistrer un duo avec Charles Aznavour ! Né à Tunis en 1961, auteur dès l'adolescence, il passe après son bac des auditions dans les maisons de disques. A l'été 1983, la sortie de son premier 45 tours, " Ces matins ", ne lui vaut qu'un succès d'estime. Mais Michel Drucker et Jacques Martin le soutiennent. Peu à peu, il fait connaissance d'Enrico Macias, Annie Cordy, Frédéric François, Louis Bertignac, Hugues Aufray et Zaz qui enregistrent ses chansons. A partir des années 2000, il chante sur scène, concevant ses propres spectacles : " Toutes les chansons ont une histoire " (2009), " L'Histoire enchantée du petit juif à roulettes " (2013), devenant même comédien, une saison durant, dans la série Plus belle la vie. Frédéric Zeitoun raconte avec humour les écueils que son handicap lui a valus depuis l'enfance : hostilité d'un proviseur pour l'inscrire au lycée, impossibilité d'accéder à certaines scènes ou salles de spectacles, même si, comme il le dit, " les roues de mon fauteuil, tels des tournesols, se sont toujours tournées vers le soleil ! "

Thinking about Physics
Physical scientists are problem solvers. They are comfortable "doing" science: they find problems, solve them, and explain their solutions. Roger Newton believes that his fellow physicists might be too comfortable with their roles as solvers of problems. He argues that physicists should spend more time thinking about physics. If they did, he believes, they would become even more skilled at solving problems and "doing" science. As Newton points out in this thought-provoking book, problem solving is always influenced by the theoretical assumptions of the problem solver. Too often, though, he believes, physicists haven't subjected their assumptions to thorough scrutiny. Newton's goal is to provide a framework within which the fundamental theories of modem physics can be explored, interpreted, and understood.
"Surely physics is more than a collection of experimental results, assembled to satisfy the curiosity of appreciative experts," Newton writes. Physics, according to Newton, has moved beyond the describing and naming of curious phenomena, which is the goal of some other branches of science. Physicists have spent a great part of the twentieth century searching for explanations of experimental findings. Newton agrees that experimental facts are vital to the study of physics, but only because they lead to the development of a theory that can explain them. Facts, he argues, should undergird theory.
Newton's explanatory sweep is both broad and deep. He covers such topics as quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, field theory, thermodynamics, the role of mathematics in physics, and the concepts of probability and causality. For Newton the fundamental entity in quantum theory is the field, from which physicists can explain the particle-like and wave-like properties that are observed in experiments. He grounds his explanations in the quantum field.
Although this is not designed as a standalone textbook, it is essential reading for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and researchers. This is a clear, concise, up-to-date book about the concepts and theories that underlie the study of contemporary physics. Readers will find that they will become better-informed physicists and, therefore, better thinkers and problem solvers, too.
