Whereas many books in this field deal with individual aspects or texts of the study of family laws, Leviticus : The Priestly Laws and Prohibitions from the Perspective of Ancient Near East and Africa examines extensively biblical texts, ancient Near Eastern text, and oral traditions from Africa. Thus, three different cultures converge : the world of the Hebrew Bible, the world of the ancient Near East, and the world of Africa. This volume examines in detail the history of the development of ancient laws in general and family laws in particular, especially the laws relating to marriages between close relatives. Furthermore, Johnson M. Kimuhu looks at prohibitions and taboos in Africa and the problems they pose with regard to the interpretation and translation of difficult biblical concepts into African languages. In that sense, Kimuhu provides an example of how to contextualize or integrate African traditions into the study of biblical Hebrew, and he also offers insights into the current debate on the study of kinship from the point of view of social/cultural anthropology and the Hebrew Bible legal system. Festschrift Günter Wagner
Günter Wagner, born 5 July 1928 in Jüterborg, Germany, studied theology in Hamburg and in Zurich, where he received a doctoral degree in 1960. From 1956 till 1958 he was employed as research assistant and representative of the German Free Churches at the Ecumenical Centre of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen" in Frankfurt. In 1958 he was appointed as instructor for New Testament Studies at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Rüschlikon, continuing as associate professor (1961), and professor of New Testament Studies (1965) for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. Günter Wagner is a member of numerous ecumenical committees and societies for biblical studies, and has taught as visiting professor and lecturer in Europe, America, and Africa. He is editor of "Exegetical Bibliographies" and co-editor of the book series "Die Kirchen der Welt" and the ecumenical journal Una Sancta ; he served on the editorial board of the exegetical journal "New Testament Studies". His publications of articles in biblical and exegetical journals and particularly his book on "Pauline Baptism and Pagan Mysteries" have established his scholarly reputation worldwide.

This book is the result of fundamental research on the thorny issue of Africa's development. D'abord et à l'instar du reste du monde, la région a été affectée par la pandémie de la COVID-19 avec des conséquences importantes aux plans sanitaire, social, économique et politique. Ensuite, dans l'arène politique, des élections — remportées sans grande surprise par les partis au pouvoir — ont été organisées en Ouganda et au Burundi ; tandis qu'une reconfiguration complète a été opérée au sein de la majorité au pouvoir en République démocratique du Congo, permettant au président Félix Tshisekedi de s'affranchir de son allié devenu encombrant, l'ancien président Joseph Kabila. Enfin, 2020 marque les dix ans de l'entrée en vigueur de la loi Dodd-Frank qui a été un tournant majeur dans la lutte contre les "minerais de conflit". En 1971, Alain Keler, 26 ans, arriva aux Etats-Unis, par amour, pour rejoindre une Américaine rencontrée lors d'un voyage en Asie. Un aller simple pour New York et un attaché-case de ses photos sous le bras, il y rencontra John G. Morris, légendaire directeur de la photographie du New York Times, pour qui le travail du jeune photographe n'est pas "very exciting" , mais qui l'invite néanmoins à rester en contact avec lui. Vingt-six ans plus tard, c'est le même homme qui l'appellera pour lui dire qu'il est le lauréat du Prix W. Eugene Smith - le plus prestigieux prix remis à un photojournaliste, et dont Alain est l'un des seuls Français, avec Gilles Peress en 1984, à être titulaire. Alain Keler photographie sur son temps libre la ville à hauteur de foules, dans les rues de New York ou de Washing- ton lors de la seconde investiture de Richard Nixon, entre protestations et célébrations. Son regard s'aiguise sur la ville américaine avant son retour en France et son passage à l'agence Sygma. America Americas est une oeuvre retrouvée. Certains néga- tifs n'ont été développés pour la première fois qu'à la fin des années 1990 et d'autres uniquement l'année dernière. Cet ouvrage invite à se plonger dans les images d'un jeune passionné qui deviendra le photographe que l'on sait. Texte extrait de la présentation de l'exposition à la galerie Fisheye (Paris) Alain Keler a couvert de nombreux événements dans le monde (Moyen- Orient, Amérique centrale...) pour l'agence Sygma. Il est lauréat en 1986 du Grand Prix Paris Match du photo- journalisme pour son reportage L'Ethiopie sous la pluie et du World Press Photo dans la catégorie nature. Devenu photo- graphe indépendant, son travail personnel sur les minori- tés dans l'ex-monde communiste lui a valu le prestigieux prix W. Eugene Smith en 1997. Il a collaboré avec de nombreux maga- zines français et étrangers dont Géo, Time Magazine, Newsweek, L'Express, Marie-Claire. Membre de l'agence MYOP, il a publié en 2018 un livre qui retrace l'ensemble de sa carrière, Journal d'un photographe, aux Editions de Juillet.

Foreign Devils investigates representations of exile in Hollywood cinema from 1930 to 1956 through the films of Peter Lorre, Béla Lugosi, and Conrad Veidt. This book dispels the assumption that by virtue of its hegemonic, reactionary, and exclusionary modes of representation, otherness is excluded from or only obliquely alluded to in classical Hollywood cinema. This book contends that Hollywood uses European émigré actors to speak of the experience of exile and the often-futile exilic attempts at integration into the host nation. This original, cross-disciplinary study incorporates a number of research interests in film studies – specifically Hollywood cinema, exile and émigré filmmakers, the Golden Age of the studio system, the Universal Horror cycle, and Poverty Row filmmaking. Foreign Devils combines the close reading of key texts with a theoretical framework that encompasses body theory and theories of space and nation with historical accounts of immigration to the United States and American concepts of nationhood through the symbolism of blood and death studies. Film studies students and academics, both undergraduate and postgraduate, as well as scholars in other disciplines, and anyone with an interest in Hollywood cinema, Central European culture in the 1930s-1950s, and European emigration to the United States will benefit from reading this book. Ce volume est un état de la recherche internationale sur les socialismes africains. Y sont rassemblés des articles traitant de débats théoriques autour de ce thème et de ses sources intellectuelles mais aussi d'expériences très concrètes de socialisme, tant dans les villes que dans les campagnes : coopératives, comités de quartier, camps de rééducation... La situation de l'Afrique lusophone, parent pauvre des études africaines en France, et dont l'ensemble des pays ont justement fait l'expérience de régimes socialistes, a fait l'objet d'une attention particulière. Les rapports de l'Afrique avec l'URSS, les démocraties populaires, Cuba, la Chine, ou encore Israël sont également abordés. Les communications faites dans les colloques ont été repensées, avec pour résultat un fructueux dialogue avec les auteur. e. s et des articles complémentaires. Les auteurs espèrent ainsi donner à l'étude des socialismes africains une légitimité dans le champ plus général de l'histoire des socialismes, de même que dans celui de celle de la guerre froide. This volume is intended to be a state of international research on African socialisms. It brings together articles dealing with theoretical debates about socialism in Africa and its intellectual sources, but also very concrete experiences of socialism, both in cities and in the countryside : cooperatives, neighborhood committees, re-education camps, etc... Particular attention was paid to the situation of Portuguese-speaking Africa, the poor relation of African studies in France, and whose countries as a whole have precisely experienced socialist regimes. Africa's relations with the USSR, the People's Democracies, Cuba, China, and Israel were also discussed. For the sake of coherence, the papers given in the colloquia have been rethought in a fruitful dialogue with the authors and complementary articles have been requested... In this way, it is hoped to give legitimacy to the study of African socialisms in the more general field of the history of socialism, as well as in that of the Cold War.

Lenz and Büchner: Studies in Dramatic Form
This study challenges Volker Klotz's widely accepted notion that the plays of Lenz and Büchner are seminal or exemplary open form dramas. This involves an account of the theory of the open and closed form, its origins in art-historical writings and German "Geistesgeschichte", its implications and place in recent criticism of drama. This leads to close studies of (a) the major plays of J.M.R Lenz (Der Hofmeister, Die Soldaten) the emphasis being on the dramatic structure, suggesting a rarely appreciated development in dramatic technique ; and (b) Georg Btechnique ; and (b) Georg Büchner's Dantons Tod (complexity of dramatic structure, presence of dramatic conflict, absence of open ending) and Woyzeck, where particular attention is devoted to the order of scenes and unsolved editorial problems, reference being made to the newly published facsimile edition of the manuscripts.

1973. Après deux années passées à New York (America, Americas - New York, Ed. de Juillet, 2021), Alain Keler reçoit sa première commande photographique. Un éditeur américain le missionne pour réaliser des images d'illustration sur le continent sud-américain. Au cours de ses deux voyages, le jeune Alain appréhende ce métier qu'il désirait tant pratiquer. Mexique, Vénézuela, Guatemala, Chili, Argentine, Pérou, Porto Rico... son long périple l'amène à croiser - déjà ! - les grands événements et les gens ordinaires qui les vivent. Lorsque les clichés commandés sont dans la boîte, le photographe réalise des images plus personnelles, en continuité avec sa pratique new yorkaise, des images à la sauvette, ancrées dans le quotidien, avec son regard empreint d'humanité et d'empathie. Le deuxième volume d'America Americas retrace les premiers pas de photographe professionnel d'Alain Keler. C'est au cours de ces deux voyages sud américains qu'il est contacté par l'agence Sygma, qu'il intégrera en 1975 pour mener la carrière que l'on sait. Alain Keler a couvert de nombreux événements dans le monde (Moyen-Orient, Amérique centrale...) pour l'agence Sygma. Il est lauréat en 1986 du Grand Prix Paris Match du photojournalisme pour son reportage L'Ethiopie sous la pluie et du World Press Photo dans la catégorie nature. The Arrest of Ships in German and South African Law
The study compares ship arrest in German and South African law. It shows that in certain fields South African and German provisions do not deviate or are at least substantially similar. This fact makes the application of both laws easier for litigants and lawyers, either for South Africans in Germany or Germans in South Africa. The book contains a selection of articles, forms, paragraphs and sections applicable in the case of ship arrest.

The Inculturation of Christianity in Africa
This book demonstrates that the encounter between Christianity and various African cultures gives rise to a number of problems for Africans who become Christians. It draws attention to certain traditional African beliefs and practices that seem to be incompatible with Christianity and create problems for Africans who embrace Christianity. Against this background it argues for the need to inculturate Christianity. It contends that in this exercise African Christianity can learn from the attempts at inculturation found in the New Testament times and in the early church. It offers examples of how the early church sought to make use of non-Christian categories of thought and elements in its articulation of the Christian message and in worship. It suggests a few areas of Ghanaian and African life where inculturation could and should take place. These include funeral rites, widowhood rites, child-naming rites, the rites of marriage, libation and christology. It concludes by offering some guidelines for use in the process of the inculturation of Christianity in Africa today.

RADIO PLURALISM IN WEST AFRICAThe present survey has been compiled from a project regarding radio broadcasting pluralism in West Africa. This project is part of Regional Programme of the Paris Panos Institute. It includes research as well as a back up plan for the development of radio broadcasting pluralism in West Africa. This survey covers ECOWAS 16 member-countries with the exception of Liberia which is excluded for political reasons. It has been monitored by a committee of participants who are all interested, for various reasons, in the development of radio broadcasting pluralism in West Africa. Surveys were carried out by african journalists and researchers.

Read Ancient African scripts from any current African language. Volume 1
The son of Douaouf, the brilliant, scribe of the early XIIth Dynasty Xty " Khety " said this : "The man continues to subsist after reaching the haven of death and his actions are beside him in a heap. " If regression is the main cause of the alarming situation of Africa and its tails the perceptibles consequences at all levels, the solution to this problem is eminently political. It inevitably involves the constitution of a pan-African State. For men, there is no unity without memory of the past. In fact, the construction of a federal state inevitably involves the restoration of African historical consciousness. There is no national and federal identity without a common language. The unification of Africa will only be possible if it takes the measure of its linguistic unification issue. To a lesser extent but like Cheikh Anta Diop in his book titled the Cultural Unity, I was animated throughout this heuristic by the idea that only the true knowledge of the past can maintain the consciousness and the feeling of a historical continuity essential to the consolidation of a nation for the purpose of building a multinational state in line with its past. Like Cheikh Anta Diop, I build my sureness on the legitimate idea that a people who lost a significant part of their historical memory must engage in the investigation of their past in every possible way. This investigation can take the contours of a reconnection with its past through so-called old languages. But a people can not live only with by merely repeating of what others tell them about themselves. The investigation through its linguistic past allows especially a direct knowledge of oneself. In addition to the fact that this knowledge simply highlights its weaknesses, it allows also to become aware by an introspective and therefore reflective of its real abilities and strengths. It structures being and the consciousness of being to resist any form of servile and degrading ideology. This quest for the past, not founded on blind passion but objectivity, nourishes a healthy ambition for a real universalism. To know one's past is already to project one's future. To know one's past is to give oneself the capacity to be able to bring to others in a perspective of giving and receiving. To know one's past is to refuse intellectual guardianship and wait-and-seeism. To know one's past is to be reborn.

Europe's Role in a South African Methodology
This work consists of essays on the so-called Middle Ages, seen from two perspectives. Writing from a sideline perspective, as opposed to the perspectives of historically mainstream theologies, in the first part of the book the author proposes a method for reading religious political texts with European philosophical insights but with a relevance for South Africa. This is done by comparing so-called Medieval texts with South African texts and situations within the demands of liberation, contextualisation, and communalism.In the second part of the book, from a female perspective, the author reevaluates the post-Biblical history of Christianity, criticising the terms "Patristics" and "Middle Ages". A South African women's theology is then offered as the outcome of the sideline perspective on the Bible, history and theology discussed in this book.
