Thinking about Physics
Physical scientists are problem solvers. They are comfortable "doing" science: they find problems, solve them, and explain their solutions. Roger Newton believes that his fellow physicists might be too comfortable with their roles as solvers of problems. He argues that physicists should spend more time thinking about physics. If they did, he believes, they would become even more skilled at solving problems and "doing" science. As Newton points out in this thought-provoking book, problem solving is always influenced by the theoretical assumptions of the problem solver. Too often, though, he believes, physicists haven't subjected their assumptions to thorough scrutiny. Newton's goal is to provide a framework within which the fundamental theories of modem physics can be explored, interpreted, and understood.
"Surely physics is more than a collection of experimental results, assembled to satisfy the curiosity of appreciative experts," Newton writes. Physics, according to Newton, has moved beyond the describing and naming of curious phenomena, which is the goal of some other branches of science. Physicists have spent a great part of the twentieth century searching for explanations of experimental findings. Newton agrees that experimental facts are vital to the study of physics, but only because they lead to the development of a theory that can explain them. Facts, he argues, should undergird theory.
Newton's explanatory sweep is both broad and deep. He covers such topics as quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, field theory, thermodynamics, the role of mathematics in physics, and the concepts of probability and causality. For Newton the fundamental entity in quantum theory is the field, from which physicists can explain the particle-like and wave-like properties that are observed in experiments. He grounds his explanations in the quantum field.
Although this is not designed as a standalone textbook, it is essential reading for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and researchers. This is a clear, concise, up-to-date book about the concepts and theories that underlie the study of contemporary physics. Il s'agit d'un projet de collaboration dans lequel Denil a travaillé avec des Ukrainiens pour traduire leurs expériences et leurs réflexions individuelles. C'est comme si le temps était gelé, même si les rêves et les espoirs demeurent. Dans la région du Donbass, dans l'est de l'Ukraine, la guerre en cours fait rage depuis maintenant plus de cinq ans. Donbass, avec sa capitale non officielle, Donetsk, était autrefois la plus densément peuplée de toutes les régions de l'Ukraine, à l'exception de la capitale, Kiev, et constituait une zone industrielle importante. L'Ukraine a obtenu son indépendance de l'Union soviétique en 1991, après quoi elle s'est déclarée Etat neutre. Cependant, en 2013, des manifestations ont éclaté dans le centre de Kiev après que le gouvernement du président Ianoukovitch eut décidé de suspendre l'accord Ukraine-UE et de renforcer plutôt ses liens économiques avec la Russie. Des mois de manifestations et de protestations, connus sous le nom d'Euromaidan, ont dégénéré en révolution ukrainienne de 2014. Ianoukovitch a finalement été renversé et un nouveau gouvernement mis en place. Ces événements ont précédé à la fois l'annexion de la Crimée par la Russie en mars 2014 et la guerre toujours en cours dans le Donbass.

Eventually Bhojan came to understand his wife's piety. The story is told in the form of a musical play where the love story is interwoven with delightful songs and dances. The character of Mira is one to win the hearts of all who read of her. Her gentle devotion and steadfast belief are an inspiration to everyone. Les comics et leurs super-héros, bien qu'occupant le devant de la scène cinématographique depuis une quinzaine d'années, n'allaient pas en rester là. C'est donc en toute logique qu'ils suivirent le cinéma, là où (presque) tout se passe désormais : les séries TV, diffusées sur les plateformes de VOD et autres chaînes payantes. De The Walking Deadà la récente série asgardienne Loki, en passant par Locke & Key, de HBO à Disney+ et autre Amazon Prime, les héros sont désormais dans tous les foyers. Un juste retour des choses lorsqu'à l'aube des années 2000, ce sont les comics qui ont permis à bon nombre de séries (Buffy en première ligne) d'avoir une seconde vie après leur passage à l'écran.
