One more Dance. Before they take the light away
Christophe Acker, réalisateur, signe la résidence de cette dixième édition et propose un film qui appréhende la ville de Vichy à travers la danse et le mouvement afin de la considérer comme un corps et un système vivant. Le coeur de la ville, ses artères, son centre névralgique, ses parcs et jardins comme ses poumons, autant de métaphores organicistes et même animistes qui assimilent l'espace urbain à un organisme, aussi bien d'un point de vue physique que fonctionnel, et dont Christophe Acker se sert pour créer une pulsation dans la ville. Accompagné de la chorégraphe Johana Malédon, il est allé d'un quartier à l'autre à la rencontre des Vichyssois, des élèves d'écoles de danse, et d'une cavalière, déplaçant les lignes et mettant en lumière les liens qui s'opèrent entre mouvement des corps et lignes architecturales. Sa proposition offre un regard singulier sur la ville. La résidence photographique est confiée cette année au réalisateur Français Christophe Acker qui a travaillé, avec des élèves d'écoles de danse de Vichy, une cavalière et une acrobate, à l'étonnante proposition d'une visite "dansée" de la ville, à travers un film projeté au palais des Congrès et des photographies présentés sur le parvis de la gare.

After The Last Ship
After the Last Ship illustrates the author's own history, as well as its connection to the history of other women and children who left India and made the journey across the Kala Pani, the Indian Ocean, and lived as migrants in other countries. In this book the author brings greater understanding of how subjectivities are shaped through embodied experiences of ‘mixed race'. She bears witness to the oppressive policies of the fascist government in Portugal in the 1960's and 1970's and the effects of displacement and exile, by reconstructing her own passage from India to Mozambique and finally to Australia. Further, the author shows the devastation that labels such as ‘half-caste', ‘canecos' and ‘monhe' can cause, when they eat at your flesh, your being, and your body. She sheds light on how identity and culture can serve as vehicles of empowerment, how experiences of belonging can germinate and take root post-diaspora.

Elles évoquent dans ce livre poétique la beauté des paysages de Hyères mais aussi la difficulté de vivre cette année 2021.

Beginning in the 1990s large numbers of women from Mainland China and Southeast Asia married men in Taiwan. They now number over 400,000, warranting some to call them "Taiwan's Fifth Ethnic Group". This book argues that the rise of these marriages is a gendered and relational phenomenon, linked to the forces of globalization. Traditional ideas of marriage, such as the belief that a woman "marries out" of her natal family to be dependent upon her husband and his family, and the idea that a man should "marry down" to a woman of a lesser social and economic status, have not kept pace with changes in women's educational and career opportunities. How these relationships are formed, how they impact gendered understandings of women and men, how families are constituted and relationships developed, and how they affect the children of these families and their education, are the issues explored in this book. It breaks new ground in our understanding of transnational and cross-border marriages by looking at the long-term effects of such marriages on communities, families, and individuals.

Car avant de tomber amoureuse d'un fils de famille privilégié, celle-ci a perdu son meilleur ami dans un étrange accident de bateau à moteur... Un roman de Sarah Dessen n'est jamais, jamais une déception. La reine de la fiction young adult observe les mouvements du coeur d'un adolescente dans la tourmente avec une justesse stupéfiante - ce qui fait dire à tout le milieu littéraire aux Etats-Unis qu'elle est, ni plus ni moins, une rock star. Emotion à fleur de peau et regard acéré sur les choses : venez savourer en sa compagnie une gourmandise à nulle autre pareille...

Charles Darwin's Zoology Notes & Specimen Lists from H.M.S. Beagle
Two long sets of scientific notes were made by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. Those transcribed here are concerned with natural history, and although in 1839 he drew on them quite extensively in writing his famous " Journal of Researches ", neither they nor his geology notes have previously been published. He was a superb observer, and recorded vividly and accurately his first impressions of the appearance and behaviour of the wide range of animals, from ants to ostriches, encountered during his travels. Often he performed little experiments on the creatures that he captured, and he was never happy until he had exhaustively explored the why and wherefore of every one of his observations. During the long periods on board ship, he carried out a thorough analysis of hitherto unrecognised features of the internal anatomy of a variety of marine invertebrates, and made elegant pencil drawings of them under his dissecting microscope. The volume also includes his lists of 1 500 specimens preserved in Spirits of Wine, and some 3 500 not in Spirits, with impeccably accurate cross references to the main notes. Although his notes were made strictly for his own use, and were often highly technical, they were well written throughout, and contain many highly readable passages. Only towards the very end of the voyage were his first doubts about the immutability of species consciously pressed, but here are to be found the first seeds of his theory of evolution, and of the important new fields of behavioural and ecological study of which he was one of the principal founders.

Moroccan tracks Volume 11. The sagho djebel
The Sagho djebel is the eastern extension of the Anti-Atlas, a volcanic mountain with granitic mamelons, basaltic organs, chaos of black shales, pink sandstones... at the gates of the Sahara. As far as the eye can see, large wild, arid spaces. A desolate land made for the lonely DPM. And for a thousand miles around, silence is the only companion. Absolute plenitude and the desire to take to the track. From flat expanses to rolling hills, from sharp relief to steep canyons : pure, original nature. The character is strong, rustic but the heart is soft. The colours are soft and gentle. Ochre, pink, brown, violet, the colour chart stretches in a gradation of shimmering pastels, sometimes accompanied by an overwhelming heat. Eldorado in the heart of the desert, rare are the oases ; modest green spots in the infinitely large, they are the reminders that we are on African soil. The wild charm of the Sagho is due to its exceptional geology : high cliffs and steep peaks, tabular escarpments and deep canyons in the middle of which caravans of camels and mules circulate. When you arrive on these immense plateaus, the lunar horizon is so vast that you want to go everywhere at once to see if it is really as beautiful elsewhere ! The Sagho also surprises by the richness of its lights : limpid like those of the nearby Sahara, or sometimes in half-tone, as in the neighbouring Dades valley. The Sagho is also the Morocco of the last Berber nomads, descendants of the ancient lords Aït Atta. Towards the Sun. The Artist - Traveller at the Turn of the Twentieth Century
Bien qu'il y ait eu des monographies sur les artistes voyageurs britanniques du XVIIIème et du début du XIXème siècles, il n'existe aucune enquête de ce que l'écrivain Henry Blackburn décrivait de "voyage artistique" un siècle plus tard. A partir de 1900, le "Grand Touriste" est devenu un globe-trotteur muni d'un appareil photo et, malgré le développement de la photographie instantanée, l'enregistrement visuel immédiat en huile et aquarelle reste le plus répandu. Kenneth McConkey's exciting new book explores the complex reasons for this in a series of chapters that take the reader from southern Europe to north Africa, the Middle East, India and Japan revealing many artist-travellers whose lives and works are scarcely remembered today. He alerts us to a generation of painters, trained in academies and artists' colonies in Europe that acted as crèches for those would go on to explore life and landscape further afi eld. The seeds of wanderlust were sown in student years in places where tuition was conducted in French or German, and models were often Spanish, Italian, or North African. At fi rst the countries of western Europe were explored afresh and cities like Tangier became artists' haunts. Training that prioritized plein air naturalism led to the common belief that a well-schooled young painter should be capable of working anywhere, and in any circumstances. At the height of British Imperial power, and facilitated by engineering and technological advance, the burgeoning tourism and travel industry rippled into the production of specialist goods and services that included a dedicated publishing sector. Essential to this phenomenon, the artist-traveller was often commissioned by London dealers to supply themed exhibitions that coincided with contracts for colour-illustrated books recording those exotic parts of the world that were newly available to the tourist, traveller, explorer, emigrant, or colonial civil servant. These works were not, however, value-neutral, and in some instances, they directly address Orientalism, Imperialism, and the Post-Colonial, in pictures that hybridize, or mimic indigenous ways of life. Behind each there is a range of interesting questions. Does experience live up to expectation ? Is the street more desirable than the ancient ruin or sacred site ? How were older ideas of the 'picturesque' reborn in an age when 'Grand Tours' once confi ned to Italy, now encompassed the globe ? McConkey's wideranging survey hopes to address some of these issues. This richly illustrated book explores key sites visited by artist-travellers and investigates artists including Frank Brangwyn, Mary Cameron, Alfred East, John Lavery, Arthur Melville, Mortimer Menpes, as well as other under-researched British artists. Drawing the strands together, it redefi nes the picturesque, by considering issues of visualization and verisimilitude, dissemination and aesthetic value.

The Christian theology of religions at present faces a crisis. What precisely is the task of the theology of religions ? Does it merely consist in interpreting the non-Christian religions as steps, phases or contributions in the light of Christianity ? Has one from the theological side conceded the maximum to the non-Christian religions by acknowledging them as anonymous Christianity (Karl Rahner)? This study is an exploration on how one shall liberate the religion of the other from anonymity : how one shall leave the other with his/her own name. The model of thought employed in this study is gained through an analysis of the intercultural process of understanding, explained with instances from Africa and South America.

Acacia thorn in my heart
I started writing "Acacia thorn in my heart" after reading the book of a white South African woman about her childhood in the same region as mine but relating a completely different experience. She had maids, her father drove her to school and she played with real toys. I lived in the heart of the country, away from everything and had to walk five miles to go to school. I was born in Natal. My father rented a plot of land from a white owner to do market gardening. Although Indian families tended not to educate daughters, our parents decided that education was a priority for us. Despite financial difficulties, they were able to send us to school. We had to get up at five o'clock in order to catch the school train. In winter, as we were scantily clad, we shivered all the way to the station.

Paul est SDF à la Défense. Par un gris matin d'hiver, au beau milieu des poubelles, il découvre un nourrisson abandonné... de cette scène choquante découle une histoire de vie et de rédemption. Qui est le plus misérable ? Le plus abandonné ? Le SDF que plus personne ne regarde dans les yeux ? Le nouveau-né dont même sa mère ne veut pas ? La jeune fille trop fragile pour appeler à l'aide ? Les personnages, plus cabossés les uns que les autres, s'entraident en une alliance de pauvres. Dans ce roman très émouvant, les chutes sont profondes mais chacun se relève, grâce aux mains tendues. Et les invisibles de la société sont des pépites.

Iris. Time unlimited (1962-1975)
Iris Clert : peu de noms de galeristes aimantent autant que celui-ci. Pour des générations d'amateurs d'art, elle demeure l'icône flamboyante de l'effervescence artistique parisienne de l'après-guerre. Active du milieu des années 1950 au début des années 1980, elle accueille dans ses galeries successives, Rive gauche puis Rive droite, des expositions mythiques tels Le Vide d'Yves Klein en 1958 et Le Plein d'Arman en 1960, ainsi que certains des artistes les plus importants du XXe siècle comme Pol Bury, Gaston Chaissac, Bill Copley, Lucio Fontana, Leon Golub, Raymond Hains, Ad Reinhardt, Takis et Jean Tinguely. Si cette liste d'artistes, non exhaustive, lui confère évidemment une place de choix dans l'histoire de l'art contemporain, Iris Clert fut aussi - et c'est l'un de ses grands apports - l'inventrice de formats d'exposition et de communication inédits, comme en témoigne sa revue iris. time unlimited. Conçu pour renouveler sa manière de communiquer alors qu'elle emménage Rive droite au début des années 1960, Iris Clert publie pendant treize ans un feuillet de quatre pages, régi par une double ligne rédactionnelle : d'un côté, annoncer et promouvoir les expositions de la galerie et, plus généralement, informer sur le monde de l'art contemporain et son actualité ; de l'autre, proposer un espace de création propice à des interventions comiques, absurdes et polémiques. Le premier numéro paraît le 6 octobre 1962, le dernier numéro en avril 1975. La longévité de la revue est à noter dans un milieu où les expériences de ce type sont généralement éphémères. Chaque numéro présente des caractéristiques communes, tant au niveau du contenu que de la maquette. Reprenant le principe des unes de France-Soir, celles d'iris. time unlimited présentent le titre du journal encadré par deux oreilles, le portrait de la galeriste à gauche et celui de l'artiste de l'exposition annoncée à droite, une tribune ou gros titre et une photographie d'oeuvre en grand format, sous un bandeau d'informations légales. Le tirage oscille entre 4 000 et 6 000 exemplaires tandis que la liste des abonnés contient près de 450 noms. La fréquence de parution est variable, tributaire du rythme des expositions et des séjours d'Iris Clert à l'étranger. La publication accueille des collaborateurs plus ou moins réguliers, des rubriques plus ou moins récurrentes. Parmi celles-ci, des chroniques sur la vie artistique parisienne, des revues de presse, des jeux, des publicités, des présentations de critiques, le " Point de vue d'Iris ", des billets d'humeur, les " Ragots de la galerie ", des petites annonces loufoques et, bien sûr, un horoscope réalisé par la voyante d'Iris Clert. " Mon petit journal, commencé à la blague, deviendra une oeuvre d'art en soi. C'est une symbiose de mystification et de démystification où l'humour a tous ses droits ", résume Iris Clert dans ses mémoires. Bien plus qu'une curiosité de bibliophiles, iris. time unlimited demeure aujourd'hui une référence pour de nombreux éditeurs et galeristes. Collectionné par les bibliothèques universitaires américaines et européennes spécialisées en histoire de l'art et les centres de documentation des musées du monde entier, iris. time unlimited incarne le style qu'Iris Clert a imprimé dans le monde de l'art, mélange de sociabilité, d'humour, d'excentricité et de créativité.
