Read Ancient African scripts from any current African language. Volume 2
The son of Douaouf, the brilliant, scribe of the early XIIth Dynasty Xty " Khety " said this : "The man continues to subsist after reaching the haven of death and his actions are beside him in a heap. " If regression is the main cause of the alarming situation of Africa and its tails the perceptibles consequences at all levels, the solution to this problem is eminently political. It inevitably involves the constitution of a pan-African State. For men, there is no unity without memory of the past. In fact, the construction of a federal state inevitably involves the restoration of African historical consciousness. There is no national and federal identity without a common language. The unification of Africa will only be possible if it takes the measure of its linguistic unification issue. To a lesser extent but like Cheikh Anta Diop in his book titled the Cultural Unity, I was animated throughout this heuristic by the idea that only the true knowledge of the past can maintain the consciousness and the feeling of a historical continuity essential to the consolidation of a nation for the purpose of building a multinational state in line with its past. Like Cheikh Anta Diop, I build my sureness on the legitimate idea that a people who lost a significant part of their historical memory must engage in the investigation of their past in every possible way. This investigation can take the contours of a reconnection with its past through so-called old languages. But a people can not live only with by merely repeating of what others tell them about themselves. The investigation through its linguistic past allows especially a direct knowledge of oneself. In addition to the fact that this knowledge simply highlights its weaknesses, it allows also to become aware by an introspective and therefore reflective of its real abilities and strengths. It structures being and the consciousness of being to resist any form of servile and degrading ideology. This quest for the past, not founded on blind passion but objectivity, nourishes a healthy ambition for a real universalism. To know one's past is already to project one's future. To know one's past is to give oneself the capacity to be able to bring to others in a perspective of giving and receiving. To know one's past is to refuse intellectual guardianship and wait-and-seeism. To know one's past is to be reborn.

Le 12 décembre 2017, en plein mouvement #metoo, Libération publiait une tribune de Laure Murat intitulée " Blow up, revu et inacceptable ", l'historienne y expliquait qu'à l'aune des débats sur les violences sexuelles faites aux femmes revoir le film d'Antonioni cinquante après sa sortie obligeait à réviser son jugement. Ce texte a suscité de vives polémiques, certains le résumant à un appel à la censure, mais s'il a eu un mérite, assez peu repéré néanmoins, c'est de poser la question des manières de voir les images et plus précisément d'interroger une activité spécifique : le " revisionnage ". S'il existe une stimulante réflexion consacrée à l'expérience de la vision, l'acte de " revision ", et toutes les modalités qu'il implique, a en revanche été peu envisagé pour lui-même. Il est pourtant inséré au coeur des pratiques sociales les plus ordinaires, celles des artistes comme des chercheurs, celles des critiques professionnels comme du public le plus massif. Il se rattache à de multiples activités culturelles qui concernent aussi bien l'audiovisuel, avec par exemple les rééditions en vidéo et les rétrospectives dans les salles que les images fixes, avec la redécouverte d'artistes à l'occasion d'expositions ...

Ils n'en appartiennent pas moins à l'histoire des idées en France et sont susceptibles de présenter un intérêt scientifique ou historique. Un livre évènement qui réunit les plus grands dessinateurs et dessinatrices de presse issus de tous les horizons du continent africain et qui luttent dans leurs pays respectifs pour ce droit fondamental qu'est la liberté de la presse. Plantu et Cartooning for Peace ont réuni une sélection de leurs dessins les plus marquants, dont l'ensemble constitue un recueil unique. Une cinquantaine de caricaturistes dont Zapiro, Gado, Glez, Dilem, Alaa Satir, Sherif Arafa, Zohoré, ou encore Willis from Tunis représentent une vingtaine de pays. Certains ont commencé à exercer leur métier dans des conditions souvent difficiles. D'autres y sont venus au monde. Tous ont en commun d'avoir compris que le dessin constitue l'arme idéale pour écrire leur société et fustiger ses maux, et ce malgré les intimidations et, pour certains, les incarcérations, dont ils sont victimes. L'Afrique, c'est depuis toujours le pays de la palabre et du dialogue entre cousins de plaisanteries qui savent pousser très loin la raillerie et l'autocritique. Ces dessins forment les marqueurs de l'histoire contemporaine de l'Afrique. Mais ces artistes ne se privent pas pour décocher certaines de leurs flèches à l'échelle planétaire. Ils nous voient autant que nous les regardons, et leur vision de force, de pertinence et de vérité, répond à un seul mot d'ordre qui se répète de planche à dessin en salle de rédaction : "Dessine-moi la liberté" .

Written as the recollection of a 110-year-old woman, "Miss Jane", The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman is the narrative of African-American history from the Declaration of Emancipation to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Gaines's masterpiece is meant to represent the interpretation of the events of a century through the central character's uneducated but street-wise vision. Carefully built on a historical structure, the book relies on a well-mastered stylistic technique that mixes several literary genres, providing the reader with a deep insight into the African American experience. Inevitably, such central issues as "black pride", human dignity, ethics or the nature of freedom are raised and the reader finds himself actively involved in the reconstruction of a black subject whom "history" had relegated in the footnotes of a "Manifest Destiny" written by revisionist ideologues.

Variation and Diachrony, with Early American English in Focus
This study of diachronic variation addresses two topics, the development of modal auxiliaries can (could), may (might), shall (should) and will (would), and the emergence of early American English as a new variety in the seventeenth century. Within the framework of socio-historical variation analysis, the author aims at accounting for diachronic change by examining the interplay of various linguistic and extra-linguistic factors in the light of evidence drawn from various corpora. The study concentrates on the language spoken and written in the New England area between 1620 and 1720, but to widen the scope in time and region, counterparts for comparison are found in the material included in the Helsinki Corpus of English Texts. The results indicate a gradual change (rather than a sudden re-structuring) in the system of the English modals from early stages on. Cumulative evidence is found for the rise of the forms can and will ; in early American English conservative (rather than innovative) tendencies characterize the development.

Studies of the American novel of the 20s and 30s have tended to concentrate either on works by men (Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Steinbeck), or on those written in the tradition of experimental modernism (Stein, Faulkner, Djuna Barnes). Based on the conviction that women writers of the period fictionalized their own private and public experiences and concerns, the present study offers an analytical introduction to some hundred novels by more than thirty writers. Its aim is to recover a significant corpus of forgotten or ignored texts, which will make a reconsideration of the centers of interest of American modernism unavoidable.

La fiscalité nigérienne, longtemps réglementée par plusieurs Codes fiscaux distincts, a été entièrement refondue au sein d'un texte unique, promulgué par la loi n°2012-37 du 20 juin 2012 portant Code Général des Impôts et entré en vigueur le 1er janvier 2013. Anthologie American Splendor. Volume 1
Au début des années soixante, Harvey Pekar est employé au classement d'un hôpital public de la ville de Cleveland, critique de jazz et collectionneur e vieux disques pour arrondir ses fins de mois. Il rencontre alors le dessinateur Robert Crumb et découvre la bande dessinée underground américaine. Fasciné par les possibilités offertes par ce medium, il développe quelques années plus tard un projet de bande dessinée autobiographique et incapable de dessiner, il convainc Crumb et deux dessinateurs de Cleveland, Gary Dumm et Greg Budgett, d'illustrer les premières histoires. En 1976, il décide d'auto-éditer sa bientôt mythique série, American Splendor a été adapté au théâtre en 1985 et 1990, puis au cinéma en 2003. Le premier volume de cette anthologie regroupe des histoires publiées entre 1976 et 1982, écrites par Harvey Pekar et dessinées par Gery Dumm, Robert Crumb, Gerry Shamray, Greg Budgett et Kevin Brown.

Malgré son poids, "American Tabloid" tient de l'épure tant il semble que l'auteur ait taillé à la serpe dans un manuscrit que l'on imagine colossal. Plein comme un oeuf, "American Tabloid" requiert une attention de tous les instants : une simple ligne parcourue d'un oeil distrait, et c'est une conspiration, un retournement de veste ou un cadavre qui risquent d'échapper au lecteur. Il n'en fallait pas moins pour passer au scalpel les mille jours de l'administration Kennedy et dresser le tableau dantesque des cinq ans qui courent de novembre 1958 au 22 novembre 1963 à Dallas.

Indigenization of Language in the African Francophone Novel
Indigenization of Language in the African Francophone Novel : A New Literary Canon discusses the question of indigenization in the African Francophone novel. Analyzing the prose narratives of Nazi Boni, Ahmadou Kourouma, and Patrice Nganang, this book contends that African literature written in European languages is primarily a creative translation process. Recourse to European languages as a medium of expressing African imagination, worldview, and cultures in fictional writing poses problems of intelligibility. Developed to express and reflect Western worldviews and sensibilities, European languages are employed by African writers to convey messages that seem to be at variance with European imagination. These writers find themselves writing in languages they wish to subvert through the technique of literary indigenization. The significance of this study resides in its raising awareness to the hurdles that literary creativity in a polyglossic context may present to readers and translators. This book provides answers to intriguing questions centering on the problematic of translation in contemporary African literature. It is a contribution to current research aimed at unraveling the conundrum surrounding the language question in African Europhone fiction, particularly the cultural functions of translation in literature. Potential translation problems have to be addressed in order to make African literature written in European languages intelligible to global readership. With the advent of globalization, transcultural communication has become an activity of enormous importance to the international community. It is a subject of great interest to translators, linguists, language instructors, and literary theorists.

The dissertation investigates the work of the Project in Partnership between Black and White which is based in Birmingham, England. The focus of this experiment in theological education is dialogical and intercultural within the British socio-cultural setting. This programme is compared with the Alternative Theological and Staff Development Experiment of Colgate Divinity School in Rochester, New York ; and the Black Church Experience, the Research in Black Church Studies and Research Study in Oral History at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, Evanston, Illinois in USA. This study further probes into the trends in general education in South Africa and their influence on the socio-political dynamics and how these in turn influence education for mission. The research analyses these approaches in the light of the work done by the Programme on Theological Education of the World Council of Chruches. The enquiry points to the need to re-think our approach to theological education in all our pluralistic societies.

Les recherches publiées dans ce livre portent sur les représentations et les symboliques de la guerre et de la paix dans le monde arabe sur la longue durée. Les auteurs sont spécialistes de différentes disciplines (sociologie, anthropologie, histoire, études linguistiques et littéraires) et portent une attention particulière à la langue de leurs corpus, depuis des textes fondateurs, Coran ou hadiths, en passant par les sources classiques de l'historien (les textes des auteurs du patrimoine classique arabe), jusqu'aux productions qui nous sont contemporaines, des textes militants aux oeuvres de fiction, tous témoignant des représentations que l'on tente d'interpréter ici. -- The studies published in this book focus on representations and symbolics of war and peace in the Arab world over the long term. Labyrinth of Hybridities. Avatars of O’Neillian Realism in Multi-ethnic American Drama (1972-2003)
Taking its cue from Eugene O'Neill's questioning of "faithful realism", voiced by Edmund Tyrone in Long Day's Journey into Night, this book examines the distant legacy of the Irish American playwright in contemporary multiethnic drama in the U.S. It explores the labyrinth of formal devices through which African American, Latina/o, First Nations, and Asian American dramatists have unconsciously reinterpreted O'Neill's questioning of mimesis. In their works, hybridizations of stage realism function as aesthetic celebrations of the spiritual potentialities of cultural in-betweenness. This volume provides detailed analyses of over forty plays authored by such key artists as August Wilson, Suzan-Lori Parks, José Rivera, Cherríe Moraga, Hanay Geiogamah, Diane Glancy, David Henry Hwang, and Chay Yew, to give only a few prominent examples. All in all, Labyrinth of Hybridities invites its readers to reassess the cross-cultural patterns characterizing the history of twentieth century American drama.

Literary Journalism and Africa's Wars. Colonial, Decolonial and Postcolonial Perspectives, Textes en français et anglais
This collection of essays explores ways in which early and late examples of literary journalism from England, France, Spain, Portugal and the United States interpolate the aesthetics of war reporting on various fronts and at divergent times in Africa's history, both reproducing and deconstructing the widespread colonial discourse that lies behind nearly every war, campaign, coup, assassination and pogrom that has scarred the continent over the past century. Although often a product of that colonial discourse, the literary journalism examined in this collection was motivated at least in part by the desire to expose the power imbalances that upheld it. Among the primary sources included in this volume are texts by Henry Morton Stanley, Ramón J. Sender, Martinho Simões, Frederick Forsyth, Kurt Vonnegut, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Philip Gourevitch, Jean Hatzfeld and a host of foreign correspondents from Le Monde. Incorporating a wide range of international critical perspectives, this book assesses the impact literary journalism has had on various nations' literary war reporting emanating from colonialist and postcolonialist conflicts and how those stories might help to reconfigure certain historical legacies, journalistic heuristics and literary representations of Africa in the 21st century. By presenting excerpts from several primary sources alongside a contextual gloss and a scholarly essay, the collection highlights the varied effects produced when literary techniques were fused with factual war reporting.
