Distance education has a long tradition. It has asserted itself all over the world and its effectiveness in bridging geographical distance between teachers and learners and in multiplying the scarce teaching resources universally is recognised. The movement towards European integration and international efforts for developing worldwide education will give even greater importance to distance education. This means that distance-education research will also gain increased importance - if it manages to bring into accord its own theoretical demands with those made by practice. The philosophical problem of the link between theory and practice lends a special political status to distance-education research.Fernunterricht und Fernlehre haben eine lange Tradition. Sie haben sich weltweit durchgesetzt, ihre Wirksamkeit zur Überbrückung räumlicher Distanzen zwischen Lehrenden und Lernenden und zur Vervielfältigung knapper Lehrkapazitäten ist unbestritten. Die Integrationsbewegungen in Europa und die internationalen Bemühungen zur weltweiten Entwicklung des Bildungswesens werden die Bedeutung von Fernlehre, Fernunterricht und Fernstudium noch steigen lassen. A Handbook of Global Citizenship Education. The Belgian perspective
Presented as a response to contemporary global issues (such as sustainable development, interculturality or democracy), Global Citizenship Education (GCE) aims to "open people's eyes and minds to the realities of the world and awaken them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity and human rights for all". Given that GCE is now perceived as a means of bringing contemporary world issues into classrooms, teachers and school principals are increasingly encouraged to adopt it. Indeed, new skills frameworks require students to develop knowledge on global issues, while students themselves are demanding this education because they seek the means to play a greater role in the world. Often addressed in the form of social or environmental issues perceived as being of serious concern, GCE is expected to feature increasingly in the curricula of schools and universities in the future. But in Belgium and around the world, Global Citizenship Education (GCE) has been the subject of debate in recent years. This handbook reflects these various debates. Initially published in French, it is, above all, an attempt to compensate for the absence of texts on the subject from the French-speaking world, notably from the Belgian research and practice world. This English version enhances the international visibility of the vital academic, institutional, and professional sectors addressing GCE in Belgium, and highlights the specific features of GCE in this country. It will be particularly useful for students, teachers and practitioners, and everyone who wants to understand the challenges of Global Citizenship Education today.

As far as the eye can see, large wild, arid spaces. A desolate land made for the lonely DPM. And for a thousand miles around, silence is the only companion. Absolute plenitude and the desire to take to the track. From flat expanses to rolling hills, from sharp relief to steep canyons : pure, original nature. The character is strong, rustic but the heart is soft. The colours are soft and gentle. Ochre, pink, brown, violet, the colour chart stretches in a gradation of shimmering pastels, sometimes accompanied by an overwhelming heat. Eldorado in the heart of the desert, rare are the oases ; modest green spots in the infinitely large, they are the reminders that we are on African soil. The wild charm of the Sagho is due to its exceptional geology : high cliffs and steep peaks, tabular escarpments and deep canyons in the middle of which caravans of camels and mules circulate. When you arrive on these immense plateaus, the lunar horizon is so vast that you want to go everywhere at once to see if it is really as beautiful elsewhere ! The Sagho also surprises by the richness of its lights : limpid like those of the nearby Sahara, or sometimes in half-tone, as in the neighbouring Dades valley. The Sagho is also the Morocco of the last Berber nomads, descendants of the ancient lords Aït Atta. In autumn, after leaving the snows of the High Atlas, they set up their dark wool tents on the slopes of the jebel until spring. They can neither read nor write, but they are sure of their way through the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan desert. Pour une archéologie du culte dans les sanctuaires du monde méditerranéen" , commun aux Ecoles françaises d'Athènes et de Rome (2012-2016), et rassemble dix essais. Face à la richesse sémantique des genres littéraires et des processus de narration, l'archéologie offre une grande variété d'informations matérielles qui font sens et qui regardent au moins trois domaines, l'architecture et l'organisation des espaces, les objets et les programmes iconographiques ainsi que les pratiques, rituelles ou non, déployées dans les complexes sacrés. C'est la place du religieux dans la vie des cités qui est en jeu ici : on côtoyait les dieux partout, "dans des espaces vécus comme peu humanisés" , dans les murs et hors les murs, dans les espaces urbains, dans la sphère privée, mais aussi et surtout dans la nature, "into the wild" . Toute la perception du divin est analysée ici, dans toutes ses formes, par des chercheurs spécialistes des sanctuaires antiques. This monograph is the last part of the scientific publication of the programme entitled "Spaces and Rites. The Archaeology of Worship in the Sanctuaries of the Mediterranean World", common to the French Schools at Athens and Rome (2012-2016), and brings together ten essays. Faced with the semantic wealth of literary genres and narrative processes, archaeology provides us with a huge variety of material information that makes absolute sense and covers at least three areas, architecture and the organisation of spaces, iconographical objects and programmes, as well as the practices carried out in sacred spaces, be they ritualistic or not. The present monograph complements Cohen's 1982 study of shyster. The main contributions of his new work are a who's who for the shyster story and a revisionist look at the coiner of the term (Mike Walsh). Scholars are currently agreed that Walsh was a raving, ranting demagogue and a wild-eyed genius whose only contribution was the introduction of gangs into New York City's political process. Cohen argues, however, that Walsh possessed far more humanity (and possibly influence) than his critics have given him credit for. It is noteworthy too that the studies of Walsh and shyster shed light on each other ; neither is complete alone.

She’s Leaving Home
This collection of essays, written by scholars from all over Europe, explores the cultural meanings of women leaving home. Although all the chapters analyse writings in English, the volume aims to put the narrative element of home-leaving into a European context by investigating travel in various directions : from England to somewhere abroad, from the (former) colonies to the (former) imperial centre or simply within a psychic space. The female figures discussed in the volume leave home for various reasons – to go into exile, to challenge orthodox conceptions of femininity, to travel for pleasure or out of curiosity – but ultimately each of them has to face questions of the definitions of home, belonging and otherness. Consequently, the essays in this collection focus on how the cross-cultural encounters implicated in discourses of race, gender, nation and religion affect female identity. Mais entre ses nouvelles copines prêtes à tout pour un sac de luxe et son travail pour une styliste tyrannique, l'aventure se révèle bien moins facile que prévue. Il lui faudra une bonne dose de courage, (ou peut-être est-ce son goût immodéré mais mal assumé pour le masochisme ? ) pour ne pas prendre ses jambes à son cou et remonter dans le premier avion pour Paris.

Its theory of language contact and linguistic interference is full of controversies which can be resolved only by a thorough analysis of the essentials of language interrelations and the results of their interactions. The monograph is based on a large corpus of linguistic and extralinguistic material collected during the last few decades (including field-work in different countries of Europe, Asia and North America) on the results of language contacts between English, German and other Teutonic languages, between Romance, Slavic and other Indo-European vernaculars, between Uralic, Turkic, Tungusic-Manchurian and Palaeo-Asian, and other languages. An attempt is made to gain an insight into the "mechanism" of language contact, to single out its types and subtypes and to project the "curve" of the dynamism of their linguistic interference (the receptor-language levels' penetrability). Special attention is paid to different varieties of plurilingualism.
