Epilepsy: the invisible pain
They say life is a long stretch of a calm river, but not for everyone ! She was for me until the day when everything rocked, the day my destiny was changed dramatically. People do not realize how life can be so sweet and so beautiful. They complain all day long for trivialities. They are not even aware that they have before their eyes the most beautiful wealth : the luck and happiness of living in good health. I was rich before. Now I am poor because my child has an incurable disease, that has currently no hope of being healed. As a parent, how can we accept that ? , How to continue living carrying the bundle of pain in my head ? , How to overcome this feeling of helplessness ? When I started speaking to my heart, I didn't know myself that this was the beginning of a new life : a rebirth as a poet. When I learnt that my 7-year-old daughter was suffering from the Dravet Syndrome, a rare genetic epileptic encephalopathy, this was like an earthquake in my life. Then, I needed to write in order to express my sorrow and my pain. Words and rhymes came naturally to my mind. This was obvious that poetry would be my survival weapon.

One more Dance. Before they take the light away
Christophe Acker, réalisateur, signe la résidence de cette dixième édition et propose un film qui appréhende la ville de Vichy à travers la danse et le mouvement afin de la considérer comme un corps et un système vivant. Le coeur de la ville, ses artères, son centre névralgique, ses parcs et jardins comme ses poumons, autant de métaphores organicistes et même animistes qui assimilent l'espace urbain à un organisme, aussi bien d'un point de vue physique que fonctionnel, et dont Christophe Acker se sert pour créer une pulsation dans la ville. Accompagné de la chorégraphe Johana Malédon, il est allé d'un quartier à l'autre à la rencontre des Vichyssois, des élèves d'écoles de danse, et d'une cavalière, déplaçant les lignes et mettant en lumière les liens qui s'opèrent entre mouvement des corps et lignes architecturales. Sa proposition offre un regard singulier sur la ville. La résidence photographique est confiée cette année au réalisateur Français Christophe Acker qui a travaillé, avec des élèves d'écoles de danse de Vichy, une cavalière et une acrobate, à l'étonnante proposition d'une visite "dansée" de la ville, à travers un film projeté au palais des Congrès et des photographies présentés sur le parvis de la gare.

Charles Darwin's Zoology Notes & Specimen Lists from H.M.S. Beagle
Two long sets of scientific notes were made by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. Those transcribed here are concerned with natural history, and although in 1839 he drew on them quite extensively in writing his famous " Journal of Researches ", neither they nor his geology notes have previously been published. He was a superb observer, and recorded vividly and accurately his first impressions of the appearance and behaviour of the wide range of animals, from ants to ostriches, encountered during his travels. Often he performed little experiments on the creatures that he captured, and he was never happy until he had exhaustively explored the why and wherefore of every one of his observations. During the long periods on board ship, he carried out a thorough analysis of hitherto unrecognised features of the internal anatomy of a variety of marine invertebrates, and made elegant pencil drawings of them under his dissecting microscope. The volume also includes his lists of 1 500 specimens preserved in Spirits of Wine, and some 3 500 not in Spirits, with impeccably accurate cross references to the main notes. Although his notes were made strictly for his own use, and were often highly technical, they were well written throughout, and contain many highly readable passages. Only towards the very end of the voyage were his first doubts about the immutability of species consciously pressed, but here are to be found the first seeds of his theory of evolution, and of the important new fields of behavioural and ecological study of which he was one of the principal founders.

During Antiquity, every culture had its own strange creatures, that mixed the forms of one or more animal, plant and human species in an infinite number of more-or-less fanciful combinations. Griffins, sphinxes, mermaids, centaurs, satyrs, pygmies, werewolves, winged monsters and unspeakable hybrids, fantastic beasts abound in the imagination of many populations throughout Antiquity. Most of them continue to live, sometimes transformed, through fairy tales, literature, movies and videogames. Faced with the abundance and variety of the ancient fantastic bestiary, the questions that come to mind are : Where do fantastic beasts come from ? How do they appear in different cultures ? What is their history, how did they survive until now ? And above all, what are fantastic beasts ? This book will explore these questions through the lens of archaeology, art history, philology and philosophy. The result is a hybrid book, precisely like the fantastic animals that constitute its object, a book which offers different approaches of analysis while being aware that our means are often vain to capture these elusive figures, which ultimately are more like us than they seem. The Sagho djebel is the eastern extension of the Anti-Atlas, a volcanic mountain with granitic mamelons, basaltic organs, chaos of black shales, pink sandstones... at the gates of the Sahara. As far as the eye can see, large wild, arid spaces. A desolate land made for the lonely DPM. And for a thousand miles around, silence is the only companion. Absolute plenitude and the desire to take to the track. From flat expanses to rolling hills, from sharp relief to steep canyons : pure, original nature. The character is strong, rustic but the heart is soft. The colours are soft and gentle. Ochre, pink, brown, violet, the colour chart stretches in a gradation of shimmering pastels, sometimes accompanied by an overwhelming heat. Eldorado in the heart of the desert, rare are the oases ; modest green spots in the infinitely large, they are the reminders that we are on African soil. The wild charm of the Sagho is due to its exceptional geology : high cliffs and steep peaks, tabular escarpments and deep canyons in the middle of which caravans of camels and mules circulate. When you arrive on these immense plateaus, the lunar horizon is so vast that you want to go everywhere at once to see if it is really as beautiful elsewhere ! The Sagho also surprises by the richness of its lights : limpid like those of the nearby Sahara, or sometimes in half-tone, as in the neighbouring Dades valley. The Sagho is also the Morocco of the last Berber nomads, descendants of the ancient lords Aït Atta. In autumn, after leaving the snows of the High Atlas, they set up their dark wool tents on the slopes of the jebel until spring. They can neither read nor write, but they are sure of their way through the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan desert. Ancient Greek by Its Translators
When not familiar with the language itself, most readers over the centuries have had access to the ancient Greek texts only or mostly through (Latin or vernacular) translations. Such an approach is not only indirect and mediated, but also distorted and even impoverishing : meaning then prevails over the linguistic form and substance of the texts themselves. What do later or modern readers read when they read translated texts written in an ancient so-called dead language ? They read a given meaning - sometimes unfaithful, often inaccurate - dictated by a genuine understanding, the blind continuation of tradition, or an untold hidden intention. The complex range of significances conveyed by meaning simultaneously reflects the time and space (called synchrony) of when and where a text has been translated, the historical learning and linguistic skills of the translators, as well as their ideas and style. As a contribution to the perennial debate about translation (mere literary transliteration vs. creative transposition), this volume aims at analyzing some striking cases of various (literary or not) texts translated from ancient Greek showing how much for the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries aesthetics and ideology matter as much as - and often even more than - rigorous philology.

Living in Two Worlds
This is a study of Singapore pastors' worldview & understanding of the epidemiology, symptomatology and management of possession behaviour. The pastors' accounts are compared with those from the scientific disciplines, and convergences and divergences noted. Factors shaping both the pastors' and the scientific discourses are examined. The pastors are shown to respond to competing scientific paradigms by reinforcing their two-worlds worldview. They either live mainly in the other world, or in each world at a time, or between the two worlds. Based on theological reflection focusing on epistemology, theodicy & cosmology, the author shows that the paradigm of living in both worlds simultaneously is the most appropriate pastoral response. The theological vision of the coexisting worlds and the pastoral task of unmasking and resisting evil in all its varieties and depths are then discussed.

Les thés meurtriers d'Oxford Tome 2 : Beau thé fatal
Qu'est-ce qui a bien pu passer par la tête de Gemma d'aller au vernissage d'une exposition d'art contemporain d'Oxford ? Elle déteste toutes ces toiles prétentieuses et elle s'ennuie ferme... Jusqu'à ce que l'une des invitées, après avoir avalé une tasse de thé, se mette à convulser et tombe raide morte. Empoisonnée. Shocking ! Voilà qui fait tache dans cette galerie chic à l'ambiance minimaliste et feutrée. Dare-dare, Gemma flaire l'assassinat. D'autant qu'il y a une ombre au tableau : le propriétaire de la galerie ne pouvait pas voir la victime en peinture ! Aidée d'un charmant inspecteur et de quatre vieilles commères, Gemma plonge dans un mystère plus complexe qu'un plum pudding. Et surtout plus dangereux, car elle pourrait bien être la prochaine sur la liste du tueur...

Théo t'es où ?
Théo était un doux rêveur et on disait de lui qu'il avait la tête ailleurs. Quand sa mère lui demandait : "Théo, t'es où ? " , pouvait-il lui dire qu'il pensait seulement à des mots qu'il trouvait beaux ? Pourtant, il se contentait de répondre : "Je suis là ! " . Le jour où ses parents furent obligés de le laisser quelque temps chez son grand-père, Théo fut fou de joie car, comme lui, son grand-père était un doux rêveur. Il commençait toujours ses phrases par ces mots : "Par les temps qui courent" et aussitôt Théo imaginait toutes sortes de personnages. C'est ainsi que lorsqu'il s'installa chez lui, ils décidèrent d'écrire une histoire ensemble. A partir du moment où celle-ci naquit, d'autres histoires surgirent. Elles ne cessaient de bouger dans la tête de Théo si bien qu'il ne vit pas le temps passer. Le jour où il apprit que ses parents étaient sur le point d'arriver, il fut fort étonné. Le plus extraordinaire c'est qu'ils débarquèrent un matin de bonne heure alors que Théo était encore endormi. Et savez-vous par qui il fut réveillé ? Bien sûr, par la voix de sa mère qui disait : "Théo, t'es où ? "

Je n'ai qu'un livre, celui que m'a donné ma mère à ma naissance et que j'ai donné à mes enfants le jour de leur naissance, la vie. Mon livre rendu fertile par la terre sur laquelle je marche en traversant les saisons. Mon livre dit que le Tsigane ne quitte rien ni ne va quelque part, le Tsigane parcourt sa demeure, les terres qu'il traverse. La foulée tsigane est une quête infinie. La vieille Théodora ne marche plus, ne voit plus, mais elle se souvient et raconte. Activation Policies for the Unemployed, the Right to Work and the Duty to Work
Since the 1990s and the 2000s, Western social protection systems have experienced a turn towards activation. This turn consists of the multiplication of measures aimed at bringing those who are unemployed closer to participation in the labour market. These measures often induce a strengthening of the conditions that must be met in order to receive social benefits. It is in this well known context that the authors gathered in this book decided to take a closer look at the relationship between activation policies for the unemployed and the right and the duty to work. If activation measures are likely to increase transitions towards the labour market, we can also make the assumption that they may, particularly when they are marked with the seal of coercion, hinder or dramatically reduce the right to freely chosen work. In such circumstances, the realisation of the "right to work", which is often stated to be the aim of those who promote activation, tends in practice to be reduced to an increasing pressure being exerted on the unemployed. In this case, isn't it actually the duty to work that is particularly reinforced ? After an historical and philosophical perspective on the issue, this assumption is confronted with the developments observed in the United States and in France, and then with the guidelines laid down in international human rights instruments. What follows is a discussion of two alternatives to the dominant activation model : the basic income guarantee and the employment guarantee.
