Marcellin Caillou aurait pu être un enfant très heureux comme beaucoup d'autres enfants. Mais il était affligé d'une maladie bizarre : il rougissait sans aucune raison et au moment où il s'y attendait le moins... Un jour qu'il rentrait chez lui en rougissant de temps en temps, il entendit dans l'escalier un bruit d'éternuement. C'était René Rateau, son nouveau voisin.
