Telepresence systems enable all these people to come together remotely (and synchronously) and make it possible to use active teaching methods, driven by the self-regulation of the learners. She had a sumptuous and atypical furniture, which combines mahogany and gilded bronzes with lamé fabrics, embroidered and fringed with gold. After a painstaking restoration, the graceful carved, painted and gilded paneling of Marie Antoinette's boudoir is once again the setting for Joséphine's luxurious furniture. Nestled in a corner of the ancestral castle of Fontainebleau, the Turkish boudoir is the only decoration of its kind preserved in France and one of the most exceptional sets of furniture created for Joséphine.

The present research deals with the policies directed at young adults on social assistance without vocational training (YAS). Drawing on data collected within cantonal administrations and providers of integration (Basel-City and Geneva) as well as interviews with YAS, the publication analysis cantonal social policies and their moral underpinnings. In Switzerland, there is an ongoing strategical shift in the field of youth policies that emphasizes educational integration as a first and primary integration step. This policy shift has implications for the strategical scope of the cantons. The focus on "education first" as a guideline dictates an approach, which follows an intertwined neo-liberal and paternalistic discourse : On the one hand, social policies are designed as investment to avoid a long-term labour market exclusion of the YAS. On the other hand, these policies are legitimized via narratives that construct the YAS as irresponsible and dependent – not yet ready to enter adulthood. In doing so, social policies create and reproduce structural vulnerabilities related to dominant moral values like reinforcing the work ethics of young welfare beneficiaries.

In this study an analysis of the women characters, who play a dominant part in Bachmann's prose writings, was presented. The results suggested a complex but coherent image. It was found that although the characteristics of this image deserved the appellation "sex-specific" and "traditional" they were infused with new values : the values of individualism, of a specifically female identity and of particular intense personal freedom. It was also found that the theme of personal freedom underlies all motivations, conflicts and situations of tragedy of Bachmann's heroines. Finally, it was found that the image of the woman is not only part of a distinct female-male antithesis, which often assumes violent dimensions, but has a redeeming function for a de-humanized world.

This substantial catalogue explores a remarkable collection of medieval European sculpture. Richly detailed with plentiful illustrations and original research, it is a notable contribution to medieval scholarship. The McCarthy collection comprises more than 150 specimens of medieval European sculpture, produced over a period of nearly 600 years. A testimony to the comprehensiveness of Robert McCarthy's interest in the art and culture of the Middle Ages, its geographical, chronological and typological breadth place it among the most important of its kind in private hands. Including a few early examples from Merovingian France, Anglo-Saxon England and Visigothic Spain, its holdings have a strong focus on Romanesque art, with over fifty capitals and other architectural carvings from Iberia, France and the Italian Peninsula. Some of these pieces are associable with such notable workshops as those of Gislebertus, the Master of Agüero and Compostela's Master Mateo, while a great number can be closely compared to anonymous works in major and provincial sites. Notable monuments like the monastic powerhouse of Cluny or the abbatial churches of Autun and Savigny are represented through important sculptural fragments - most published here for the first time. The transition to the Gothic style and the period of its splendour, particularly in France, are witnessed by an ample selection of statuary and architectural fragments - some traceable to such important buildings as Noyon cathedral and Paris' Notre Dame, and others, more loosely, to the artistic circles that gravitated around the great projects of the age. Freestanding sculpture in stone or wood, including a small but precious nucleus of Virgin and Child statuary and some Spanish polychrome figures, constitutes an interesting subset of the collection's late medieval holdings, as do some especially fine examples of Italian trecento sculpture. Enriched with outstanding photography by Barney Hindle and Mark French, entries aim to provide detailed stylistic, iconographic and contextual analyses, with special attention paid to comparanda in public and other private collections. This approach, complemented in some cases by petrographic analysis, has allowed the. authors to connect much of the material presented in these pages with specific buildings, workshops or regional schools, contributing to a better understanding of the pieces themselves, their original settings and their cultural and artistic milieux. This catalogue follows the publication of three volumes dedicated to Robert McCarthy's vast collection of Western miniatures and manuscript leaves (2018-2021), and is part of an ambitious project to document the entirety of his holdings - which also include notable selections of medieval ivories, stained glass and East Christian Art.

The concept of mass is one of the most fundamental notions in physics, comparable in importance only to those of space and time. But in contrast to the latter, which are the subject of innumerable physical and philosophical studies, the concept of mass has been but rarely investigated. In her prose texts as well as in paratexts Mayröcker cites and parodies conventions of (auto)biographical literature ; referential truth is both suggested and thwarted. When writing a biographical portrait, these ambivalences should be taken into account. The spatiality of the room is held to be an important condition for the specific appearance and an appropriate understanding of Mayröcker's literature. The guest, who is invited to the cramped room, can be seen as a deputy of the reader. Both of them have to step onto areas, which show narrow contacts between the body of the author and the hoarded materials. In that way, Friederike Mayröcker is a challenge for literary criticism as well as for modern archival theory. Le présent article traite de photographies de l'appartement viennois de Friederike Mayröcker dans lequel l'auteure est immergée dans des morceaux de papier, des manuscrits, des coupures de journaux, des brochures, des prospectus et des livres. La spatialité de la pièce apparaît comme une condition importante pour appréhender cet aspect spécifique et comme un moyen approprié pour comprendre la littérature mayröckerienne. This paper tries to clarify this concept by referring to Breton's Theorization of Surrealism in the two manifestoes, and to highlight Friederike Mayröcker's relation to this movement. The confrontation of Breton's manifestoes with extracts from Mayröcker's Magische Blätter and Gesammelte Gedichte leads to an analysis of keywords of Surrealism such as madness, dream, psychic automatism, association of ideas, magic, surreality, and reveals not only similarities, but also important differences in Breton's and Friederike Mayröcker's conception and practice of their art. As a referring point the research of Francis Ponge in the field of things and their "visualization" in language helped a lot to open a space by comparing the poetics of these two great poets. The path towards obtaining the degree in "humanities" and his intentions to elaborate a PhD-thesis are placed in the larger context of his efforts to integrate himself in the French society on the one hand and in the context of his efforts to establish himself as a German-speaking poet, on the other. We exploit here a number of unpublished documentary materials from the French archive, as well as a number of interviews, again unpublished, that we took between 1998 and 2000 with a number of persons close at that time to Paul Celan. Laurent DEDRYVERE Les guerres du Schleswig-Holstein, lieu de mémoire nationaliste dans l'Allemagne wilhelminienne The present paper deals with German nationalist "lieux de mémoire" (sites of memory) related to the Schleswig-Holstein wars (1848-1851 and 1864) in the German Empire. Eight historical novels, published between 1881 and 1914, were used as primary sources for this article. These books played an important part in the popula-rization of the historical arguments justifying the an-nexation of both duchies by Prussia. Most novels were written either while Köller was Oberpräsident of the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein, or a little later, and they can only be understood in the light of the Germanization policy which was carried out in this province. In the case of Northern Schleswig, nationalist intellectuals were confronted with two difficulties. Firstly, even the champions of the German cause in Northern Schleswig spoke a Danish dialect as their mother tongue. Secondly, individual members of one and the same family sometimes declared their support for different national camps. So neither the mother tongue and the national-political opinions, nor the "lineage" and the national-political opinions could be automatically equated. Most authors payed attention to the national peculiarities of Northern Schleswig in their work, whilst at the same time supporting the Germanization policy. The detour via the German history allowed a legitimation of the Köllerian politics. Some radical völkisch novelists apparently promoted a German-Danish reconciliation. But this was not aimed at the "real" Danish speakers. An imagined union of all Germanic peoples was at stake, not the political rights of an ethnic minority. Der vorliegende Artikel untersucht die deutschen nationalistischen Erinnerungsorte der beiden schleswig-holsteinischen Kriege (1848-1851 und 1864) im Deutschen Kaiserreich. Als Quelle dienen acht historische Romane, die zwischen 1881 und 1914 veröffentlicht wurden. Eine wesentliche Funktion dieser Werke bestand darin, historische Argumente für einen Verzicht Dänemarks auf die Herzogtümer und für ihre Abtretung an Preußen in populärer Form anzuführen. Die meisten Romane wurden während Köllers Oberpräsidentschaft in Schleswig-Holstein oder kurz danach verfasst und sind nur vor dem Hintergrund der Germanisierungspolitik in Nordschleswig zu verstehen. Die nationalistischen Intellektuellen waren im Falle Nordschleswigs mit zwei Schwierigkeiten konfrontiert. Erstens hatten selbst die Vorkämpfer der deutschen Sache in Nordschleswig einen dänischen Dialekt als Muttersprache. Zweitens bekannten sich manchmal Mitglieder ein und derselben Familie zu unterschiedlichen nationalen Lagern. Es gab also weder zwischen Muttersprache und national-politischer Gesinnung noch zwischen "Abstammung" und national-politischer Gesinnung eine systematische Korrelation. Die meisten Verfasser beachten in ihren Werken die nationalen Besonderheiten Schleswigs, sprechen sich aber gleichzeitig für die Germanisierungspolitik aus. Der Umweg über die jüngste deutsche Geschichte dient also der Legitimierung der Köllerschen Politik. Manche radikal völkischen Schriftsteller treten für eine deutsch-dänische Versöhnung ein. In keinem Fall sind aber die wirklichen Dänischsprachigen gemeint. Es geht um ein erträumtes Bündnis aller Germanen, nicht um die politischen Rechte einer ethnischen Minderheit.

Fighting the Nazi menace together became the new priority, leading to unprecedented levels of cooperation between the two governments. In order to defeat the Nazis, Britain and the USSR shared intelligence and revealed operative secrets to each other, including those of the secretive security services. They helped with the dispatch of agents and even ran agents together, attempting to foil German counter-intelligence strategies. For much of the Cold War, crucial facts of this collaboration remained top secret. Based on recently declassified files, Dealing with the Devil explores this little known chapter of the Second World War. This catalogue accompanies the first exhibition devoted to a fascinating group of drawings by the Anglo-Swiss Henry Fuseli (1741-1825), one of eighteenth-century Europe's most idiosyncratic, original and controversial artists. Best known for his notoriously provocative painting The Nightmare, Fuseli energetically cultivated a reputation for eccentricity, with vividly stylised images of supernatural creatures, muscle-bound heroes, and damsels in distress. While these convinced some viewers of the greatness of his genius, others dismissed him as a charlatan, or as completely mad. Fuseli's contemporaries might have thought him even crazier had they been aware that in private he harboured an obsessive preoccupation with the figure of the modern woman, which he pursued almost exclusively in his drawings. Where one might have expected idealised bodies with the grace and proportions of classical statues, here instead we encounter figures whose anatomies have been shaped by stiff bodices, waistbands, puffed sleeves, and pointed shoes, and whose heads are crowned by coiffures of the most bizarre and complicated sort. Often based on the artist's wife Sophia Rawlins, the women who populate Fuseli's graphic work tend to adopt brazenly aggressive attitudes, either fixing their gaze directly on the viewer or ignoring our presence altogether. Usually they appear on their own, in isolation on the page ; sometimes they are grouped together to form disturbing narratives, erotic fantasies that may be mysterious, vaguely menacing, or overtly transgressive, but where women always play a dominant role. Among the many intriguing questions raised by these works is the extent to which his wife Sophia was actively involved in fashioning her appearance for her own pleasure, as well as for the benefit of her husband. By bringing together more than fifty of these studies (roughly a third of the known total), The Courtauld Gallery will give audiences an unprecedented opportunity to see one of the finest Romantic-period draughtsmen at his most innovative and exciting. Visitors to the show and readers of the lavishly illustrated catalogue will further be invited to consider how Fuseli's drawings of women, as products of the turbulent aftermath of the American and French Revolutions, speak to concerns about gender and sexuality that have never been more relevant than they are today. The exhibition showcases drawings brought together from international collections, including the Kunsthaus in Zurich, the Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand, and from other European and North American institutions.
