A Woman's Voice is Revolution
Coédition Dilecta / Mucem Langues : français / anglais Exposition monographique dans le bâtiment GHR du Mucem du 1er décembre 2022 au 16 avril 2023, expositions dans le même temps à la Vieille Charité et au FRAC, Marseille Co-commissaires et co-directeurs d'ouvrage : Hélia Paukner et Philippe Dagen L'exposition "Ghada Amer" est la première rétrospective de l'artiste en France. Née au Caire en 1963, Ghada Amer emménage à Nice en 1974 avec ses parents. Quelque dix ans plus tard, elle s'y forme à la Villa Arson avant de rejoindre l'Institut des hautes études en arts plastiques à Paris. Révoltée par la difficulté de s'affirmer comme peintre dans les années 1980 et a fortiori comme femme peintre, Ghada Amer élabore une oeuvre de toiles et d'installations brodées ainsi que de sculptures et de jardins, à travers lesquels la peinture s'affirme progressivement. En 1999, elle est invitée par Harald Szeemann à exposer à la Biennale de Venise, où elle reçoit le prix UNESCO. Depuis 1996, elle vit et travaille à New York. Dans trois lieux marseillais, la rétrospective réunit les différents modes d'expression plastique de l'artiste franco-égyptienne, depuis ses débuts jusqu'à ses créations les plus récentes. Au Mucem (fort Saint-Jean, GHR), le parcours transculturel et international de l'artiste sera mis en lumière. L'Orient, sa perception par l'Occident, la traductibilité d'une culture dans une autre, la religion, la condition féminine, l'actualité : autant de thèmes dont Ghada Amer livre une vision personnelle, engagée et nuancée, s'affirmant comme une des grandes voix des débats actuels sur les enjeux postcoloniaux de la création. En regard, une sculpture-jardin sera créée en extérieur, au fort Saint-Jean. Des photographies inédites de l'oeuvre produite seront intégrées à l'ouvrage. Au FRAC PACA La question de la femme transcende pour Ghada Amer celle de l'appartenance culturelle ou religieuse. Résolument féministe, elle s'est emparée en peintre du médium traditionnellement féminin de la broderie. Entre hommage et revendication, ses toiles entrent en dialogue avec les maîtres d'une histoire de l'art trop longtemps dominée par les hommes. Au-delà, elles se développent sous le signe d'une puissance créatrice jubilatoire et d'un intérêt nouveau pour le portrait. A la chapelle de la Vieille Charité Par de passionnants transferts d'une technique à l'autre, les expérimentations picturales de Ghada Amer investissent le champ de la sculpture - à travers installations et sculptures paysagères, mais aussi à travers des oeuvres en céramique et en bronze récemment poussées dans le sens de la monumentalité. Le livre portera un même titre pour les trois lieux (même si les expositions auront trois titres différents).

What do Christopher Columbus, Reneke, Zénobe Gramme and Louis Pasteur have in common ? They were all inventors. Well fine, but who invented the crab's claw, the suction cups and the flight of squids or the proboscis of blood sucking insects ? Is invention intellectual fantasy, an industrial tool or a fundamental biological reaction ? How is this riddle to be solved ? Should we go through the list of inventions or inventors ? Is it a question of circumstances or motivations ? Who is in charge ? The Material or the Spirit ? In order to try to find a way of answering these questions, first a few very different inventors and their inventions will be presented. A few paradoxes emerge from this first part. Then we will devote an entire chapter to an exceptional inventor whose extraordinary work revolutionized how we now approach this topic. Finally, what can be said about all the inventions like the wings of birds or butterflies, the eyes of fish or insects, the leaves of trees or the social organization of beehives ? In these cases, man is not the inventor. There are countless marvels like these in the world around us. Can we explain them ? This will be the subject of the third part of this essay.

One Artist on Five Continents
Elisabet Delbrück (1876-1967) was one of a number of Germans who came to New Zealand in the late 1930s. Unlike most, she had not intended to emigrate but was touring the country when World War II broke out. She was at first forbidden to leave and then chose to remain in Wellington. Her thirty years in Mahina Bay on Wellington harbour had a profound effect on all who knew her. This study aims to discover why she was so remarkable. It explores her early life, her marriage into a prominent German family and her qualification as an artist. She turned this into a profession, teaching and exhibiting on five continents in the 1920s and 1930s. She always travelled alone, observing the customs and beliefs of the people she met. In Australia and New Zealand in 1938 and 1939 she was wrongly suspected of spreading Nazi propaganda. Her story is also the story of a heroic group of Wellingtonians who helped her in the 1940s and valued her friendship till her death.

Arrival of Mira, Love story between Bhojan and Mira
Arrival of Mira Foreword Arrival of Mira tells the story of a beautiful young woman who held true to her faith despite many severe hardships. Mira was still only a child when she decided that Ginidhara Gopal (Lord Krishna) was her 'husband' and that she wanted to devote her life to serving and worshipping him. Later, the now orphaned Mira was married to Bhojan, the prince of Mewar and son of Rana, the king of Chittoor. Bhojan fell in love at first sight but found it hard to understand Mira's utter devotion to Ginidhara. Mira suffered at the hands of her in-laws who could not understand the depth of her love for Ginidhara and wanted her to follow their worship of Kali (in the form of Durga). Mira suffered imprisonment in a haunted palace and then exile for her beliefs. Even her friends were persecuted because of her uncompromising love for Lord Krishna. Eventually Bhojan came to understand his wife's piety. The story is told in the form of a musical play where the love story is interwoven with delightful songs and dances. The character of Mira is one to win the hearts of all who read of her. Her gentle devotion and steadfast belief are an inspiration to everyone. Marital Separation in Contemporary Ireland
This book is based on detailed interviews with a group of Irish women who have experienced marital separation. It links the women's accounts with literature on the values and beliefs about marriage, women and family which were prevalent when they were growing up in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s. The book chronicles their young adult years, the early stages of their marriages and the events and processes which led to their separations. It explores the women's emotional reactions at the time of separating, the types of support which they found beneficial and the personal, social and financial consequences of having separated. Although the book is written from a sociological perspective, the combination of theory and practical insights make it accessible to a wide variety of readers. It aims to generate discussion and deepen understanding of an area into which there has been minimal research in Ireland and which poses a range of important questions for future researchers, practitioners and policy-makers.

Qui a tué l'idiot ?
Début du XX ? siècle. Anselme vient de mourir cette nuit. Saigné d'un coup de hache, dans son propre jardin. C'est le trente-deuxième assassinat recensé au village ; dans une communauté humaine où l'on ne compte plus que soixante-seize personnes en vie, ça commence à faire vraiment beaucoup. Culled from specialists with military and law enforcement experience, the G-Men sought out Lambda Protocol violators with swift and violent response. With wiki crimes on the rise and a growing anti-alien movement gaining strength, something had to be done. The government needed a solution, but they weren't sure what to do. And then they discovered a teenage girl living in Brazil with a special affinity for traversing and moulding the data stream. They had discovered the first Googol. And the world was about to change.

The German Effect on D.H. Lawrence and his Works 1885-1912
This study analyzes in depth the German effect upon D.H. Lawrence and his works from his birth in 1885 to his departure from England in 1912. German literary, philosophical and musical works had considerable impact on Lawrence's formation as an artist. They also influenced the creation of his own literary theory, entering his life concurrently with the three problems of class, woman and religion, which evolved into his major literary themes. The German effect is thus demonstrated to be the confirmation of Lawrence's strong tendency toward subjectivism in literary art : it strengthened his conviction that his art set him apart from all classes of society ; it encouraged the development of his view of women as the sexual, not the maternal, mediatrix to art ; and it fortified his denial of traditional Christianity and assisted his creation of his personal vitalistic creed.

Dans ce premier recueil de poésies l'auteur nous invite à partager avec des mots simples une aventure du coeur où la candeur, la gravité et l'humour s'entremêlent pour exprimer les émois, les craintes et les espérances de l'amant solitaire. La femme sublimée vit entre ciel et réalité quotidienne. Tantôt le vieil adolescent-poète aimerait qu'elle se rapproche de lui, accepte de le suivre, là où il n'y a ni tapage ni grillage, voudrait qu'elle le comprenne et l'accepte dans sa douce nature tout en l'aidant à être plus dur. Tantôt il lui affirme qu'il a la force requise pour la protéger comme un roi. Ces chansons pleines de soies et de drôleries portent la marque d'un regard tourné vers le haut, qu'il s'agisse de Dieu, d'un idéal de pureté ou d'un monde où la justice serait l'unique valeur. Mais François Tassin sait aussi être lucide sur le monde d'aujourd'hui et sur les folies qui sévissent. Si l'aventure n'est pas toujours à la hauteur des rêves, le poète laisse toujours la porte ouverte pour que le vent de l'espérance entre et enchante. Sa longue chanson adressée à l'âme-soeur devient aussi la nôtre et continue à résonner en nous longtemps après que nous l'ayons écoutée dans la nuit éclaircie. Entrecroisé dans le fil de la narration, nous retrouvons la célèbre fable de Simurg, l'oiseau légendaire, que certains des oiseaux du parc ont la folle envie de rencontrer. Commence alors un voyage qui les fera se confronter à une réalité qu'ils n'auraient jamais imaginée.

Ce roman policier nous plonge dans le quotidien passionnant des années 1960, entre la routine d'une vie de Province, des histoires d'amour complexes et un commissaire de police dont la singularité est de faire surtout fonctionner ses cellules grises.

Pendant les horreurs de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Marcel Dusaussois et Martine Doos ont constaté, avec les yeux de l'innocence outragée, à quel point l'être humain est capable du pire. Ils ont voulu parier que ce même être humain est aussi capable du meilleur... que par la voie de l'amour, il est appelé à rejoindre une dimension qui transcende la matière, hors de l'espace vécu et de sa temporalité. Leurs tableaux et leurs écrits témoignent de leur idéal, à la recherche de la part de divin qui se trouve au coeur de chaque être vivant... Leur perception de notre monde peut paraître étrange. Elle résulte de leur soif de penser par eux-mêmes, et de la recherche du sens qu'ils voulaient donner à leur vie. Certains les ont taxés de rêveurs irréalistes. Mais qu'est-ce que la réalité ? La leur n'est sans doute pas la vôtre... Quoi qu'il en soit, leurs oeuvres interpellent chacun de nous, et même si elles peuvent déranger, elles nous forcent à nous demander à quoi nous attachons finalement de l'importance...

Physical scientists are problem solvers. They are comfortable "doing" science: they find problems, solve them, and explain their solutions. Roger Newton believes that his fellow physicists might be too comfortable with their roles as solvers of problems. He argues that physicists should spend more time thinking about physics. If they did, he believes, they would become even more skilled at solving problems and "doing" science. As Newton points out in this thought-provoking book, problem solving is always influenced by the theoretical assumptions of the problem solver. Too often, though, he believes, physicists haven't subjected their assumptions to thorough scrutiny. Newton's goal is to provide a framework within which the fundamental theories of modem physics can be explored, interpreted, and understood.
"Surely physics is more than a collection of experimental results, assembled to satisfy the curiosity of appreciative experts," Newton writes. Physics, according to Newton, has moved beyond the describing and naming of curious phenomena, which is the goal of some other branches of science. Physicists have spent a great part of the twentieth century searching for explanations of experimental findings. Newton agrees that experimental facts are vital to the study of physics, but only because they lead to the development of a theory that can explain them. Facts, he argues, should undergird theory.
Newton's explanatory sweep is both broad and deep. He covers such topics as quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, field theory, thermodynamics, the role of mathematics in physics, and the concepts of probability and causality. For Newton the fundamental entity in quantum theory is the field, from which physicists can explain the particle-like and wave-like properties that are observed in experiments. He grounds his explanations in the quantum field.
Although this is not designed as a standalone textbook, it is essential reading for advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, professors, and researchers. This is a clear, concise, up-to-date book about the concepts and theories that underlie the study of contemporary physics. Readers will find that they will become better-informed physicists and, therefore, better thinkers and problem solvers, too.
