The preparation process of inorganic materials is one of the most important aspects of material science. Not only the chemical composition of a particular material plays a crucial role for many applications but also its structure. The proper choice of the chemical precursors and the preparation technique to obtain a material with the desired chemical and physical properties is a challenge for both material scientists and inorganic chemists. This is the first book to give a comprehensive overview of the current methods for chemical synthesis of inorganic materials. The spectrum ranges from solid state reactions, CVD, reactions of aqueous systems, preparation and modification of inorganic polymers to the synthesis of tailored porous materials. There has been a heated international debate over Salman Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses ever since its publication in 1988. The present work examines the ways in which this affair has developed. From the beginning, one can find strong rhetorical emphases ; these are shown to argue for maintenance of meaningful boundaries. The thesis of Kuortti's book is that on each side of the debate, people use similar language to argue for the sanctity of their convictions. This is evident especially in the opposition between the arguments for the sacrality of Islam and literature. In the international exchange, how could we then find more respectful ways of acknowledging that we are not that dissimilar from each other ?

Philip Freneau (1752-1832) was one of the first Americans to gain wide recognition as a writer. He is generally remembered as the "father of American poetry," but his prose writings have not always received the attention they deserve. As the editor of three important papers in the late 18th century (The National Gazette. The Jersey Chronicle, and The Time-Piece and Literary Companion) and as a contributor to many others, Freneau produced a large number of political and literary essays. The "Tomo Cheeki Essays", which were published in 1795 and in 1797, constitute an excellent example of Freneau's prose work. These pseudo-autobiographical accounts of an Indian visiting a city of the Whites are based upon the model of the European "oriental tale," while simultaneously incorporating American subject matter. The essays are representative of a decisive period of American literary history, since they reveal both Freneau's indebtedness to European culture and his role in the process of overcoming this indebtedness in the beginning creation of an independent national literature. The present edition provides the first complete and separate modern collection of the essays, which gives the reader an opportunity to get acquainted with an important example of early American prose writing that has been virtually inaccessible up to now.

L'Art Brut est "? farouche et furtif comme une biche ? ", écrivait Jean Dubuffet, au contraire de "? l'art coutumier ? ", dont on parle le plus souvent quand on parle d'art, qu'il soit classique, romantique, baroque, moderne... Le second est du côté de l'empaillé, de l'ordonné. Le premier est du côté du sauvage, de l'insaisissable. Il est difficile cependant d'en dire plus de l'Art Brut, sans "? le tuer presque ? ". Pour qu'il ne se retrouve pas à son tour pris dans l'étau des normes culturelles imposée par l'élite sociale, Jean Dubuffet voulait inventer une manière de ne pas définir l'Art Brut. Il insiste sur cela dès 1947, avec son sens de la provocation ? : "? Formuler ce qu'il est cet Art Brut, sûr que ce n'est pas mon affaire. Définir une chose - or déjà l'isoler - c'est l'abîmer beaucoup. C'est la tuer presque. ? " Les façons de ne pas définir l'Art Brut, pour Dubuffet, sont nombreuses, prolixes, parfois contradictoires, de façon revendiquée. C'est ce que le présent volume donne à comprendre, rassemblant l'ensemble de ses écrits sur la question, de 1947 et 1982. Réflexions pour la Compagnie de l'Art Brut qu'il fonde en 1948 à Paris, lettres à André Bretons, aux personnalités du monde psychiatrique Jean Oury ou Jacqueline Porret-Forel, mais aussi hommages aux oeuvres de Paul End, Clément, Jospeh Heu, Berthe U, Aloïse, Laure- : multiples sont les directions de sa pensée, qui se veut toujours ouverte. Si l'on ne peut affirmer ce qu'est l'Art Brut, il reste qu'on peut se mouvoir théoriquement sur les traces d'une pluralité de pratiques. "? N'importe quelle affirmation, si on la maintient sur un long parcours, se change en absurdité. Je crois que la pensée n'obtient de fruits utilisables qu'en se constituant en circulation plurielle, par étages qui se superposent, comme le sens des voitures sur les voies étagées de Tokyo ? ", disait encore Dubuffet. C'est bien de cette manière non univoque qu'il envisage l'Art Brut, comme les voies rapides qui traversent une métropole, se croisent, bifurquent, spiralent, portant attention au flux incessant de lueurs dans la nuit et à chaque "? déchaînement d'ingéniosité et d'innovation ? " dans sa singularité.

The six revised papers collected here - two have been translated into English - address in their different ways questions relating to grammatical meaning (both semantics and pragmatics) and the analysis of constructions. Though they cover a period of about 10 years, they can be said to share a view of linguistic analysis that is holistic rather than modular and descriptive rather than generative. The Christian theology of religions at present faces a crisis. What precisely is the task of the theology of religions ? Does it merely consist in interpreting the non-Christian religions as steps, phases or contributions in the light of Christianity ? Has one from the theological side conceded the maximum to the non-Christian religions by acknowledging them as anonymous Christianity (Karl Rahner)? This study is an exploration on how one shall liberate the religion of the other from anonymity : how one shall leave the other with his/her own name. The model of thought employed in this study is gained through an analysis of the intercultural process of understanding, explained with instances from Africa and South America.

Comprendre une œuvre d'art ne consiste pas à lui appliquer une méthode toute prête à porter. Au contraire, la proposer sous les feux de différentes approches permettrait d'en offrir quelques diverses parcelles de vérité. Une esthétique psychanalytique consisterait à emprunter à la psychanalyse sa logique et ses objets afin d'éclairer notre réception de l'œuvre, tout en restant fondée sur son analyse plastique. L'art symboliste (pictural), apparu tout comme la psychanalyse au tournant du XIXe et du XXe siècle, déploie les mêmes intérêts pour la psyché, découvre les mêmes procès... mais autrement, bien sûr, c'est-à-dire par des œuvres. En examinant Œdipe et le Sphinx de Gustave Moreau nous renverserons la problématique : et si c'était la rencontre avec ce monstre femelle envoyé des dieux qui le conduisit justement à l'inceste ? Le tableau n'en finit pas de receler de nouvelles voies de compréhension de ce mécanisme de la psyché... D'autres notions connexes seront déployées sous l'habileté de F. von Stuck, A. Böcklin, E. Si aujourd'hui les contes connaissent un regain d'intérêt de la part des adultes, il n'en va pas de même pour l'Art des Conteurs qui reste encore dans l'esprit de beaucoup un art mineur, et plus largement une technique de diffusion des contes, confondue avec celle du comédien, du récitant, voire du lecteur. Si ce triste sort a au moins l'avantage d'appeler les conteurs à plus d'humilité, il serait nuisible aux contes que nous aimons, s'il ne se trouvait parmi nous de vrais conteurs. C'est-à-dire des artistes, de rusés orateurs, doués d'une éloquence et d'un imaginaire propres à conduire des voyages. Car l'urgence n'est pas tant de conserver ni de répandre, mais bien de mettre au monde des versions nouvelles, personnelles et vivantes des contes de toujours, ce qu'ont fait de tout temps les conteurs disparus.

Les auteurs, qui vécurent entre les 9e et 18e siècles, des poèmes rassemblés dans cette anthologie esquissent les contours d'un art poétique de la contemplation, sublimant notre regard sur le monde. Luxembourg companies have a legal personality that is separate from that of their shareholder(s). Consequently, they may enter into agreements with their shareholders as they do with third parties. However, when the terms and conditions of those agreements do not adhere to the arm's length standard, tax adjustments may be required in accordance with the concepts of hidden dividend distribution and hidden capital contribution. Both concepts aim at a separation of the sphere of the company (which is itself subject to corporate income tax on its worldwide income) from that of its shareholders. As such, the concepts of hidden dividend distribution and hidden capital contribution are cornerstones of Luxembourg's transfer pricing rules. In addition, in the context of associated enterprises (in a group of companies), tax adjustments might be required under Article 56 of the Luxembourg Income Tax Law ("LITL"). Hence, a clear distinction must be made between agreements that adhere to the arm's length principle and agreements that, motivated by the shareholding relationship, shift advantages from the company to the shareholder or vice versa. Therefore, each contractual relationship between a company and its shareholder(s) must be considered. Luxembourg tax law does not provide for exhaustive definitions of hidden dividend distributions and hidden capital contributions. Both concepts have their origins in case law of the German Reich Tax Court (Reichsfinanzhof) and have been carefully extended and refined through the years by the German Federal Tax Court (Bundesfinanzhof). Since the publication of the first edition of this book back in 2011, the Luxembourg Courts had to decide in numerous cases involving both concepts. Agnès DERAIL-IMBERT Eros et Arès : les enfants de la guerre dans Billy Budd, Sailor de Melville Cette étude se propose de lire Billy Budd, Sailor comme une fable juridique qui dramatise, dans un double contexte de guerre et de mutinerie, le conflit entre la violence d'une innocence exceptionnelle (Billy) et celle du mal absolu (Claggart). L'une et l'autre, hors la loi, recèle une menace insurrectionnelle que la souveraineté politique (celle du capitaine Vere), pour se maintenir, doit réprimer. Le jugement de Vere - l'exécution de Budd -, s'exerçant au nom de la violence légale, met en oeuvre une stratégie qui enrôle la puissance cohésive d'Eros au service de la loi mar- tiale, dans une opération qui vise à naturaliser et à sublimer la violence arbitraire de l'état d'exception. Against a backdrop of war and mutiny, Billy Budd, Sailor can be read as a juridical drama staging the conflict between the exceptional violence of utmost innocence (Billy's) and that of absolute evil (Claggart's). Both infringe the law and both are pregnant with a threat of insurrection which political sovereignty (captain Vere's) must eradicate for the sake of its own integrity. Vere's sentence condemning Budd to death in the name of legal violence partakes of a complex strategy whose aim is to summon Eros's cohesive power in order to buttress martial law and to naturalize and sublimate the arbitrary violence of the state of exception. Michael GILLESPIE The Picture of Dorian Gray as a Postmodern Work Despite the wide range of interpretative approaches to The Picture of Dorian Gray that have appeared since its publication, all seem to assume that a particular set of values or beliefs-traditional Judeo-Christian morality, cultural attitudes, nationa- list dispositions, or queer inclinations-is integral to Wilde's narrative. This essay challenges the value of any metaphysical reading by asserting that the world of The Picture of Dorian Gray is delineated in strictly physical terms and so is best as a Post-Modern work. Through close reading, this essay shows key points in the narrative that highlight the absence of all values and that underscore the view that characters behave according to strictly material considerations. In the end the essay concludes that Wilde presents a world as grim and bleak as anything found in the works of Samuel Beckett. Malgré les nombreuses interprétations dont a fait l'objet The Picture of Dorian Gray depuis sa publication, tous les critiques semblent penser qu'un ensemble de valeurs ou de croyances-qu'il s'agisse de la morale judéo-chrétienne, de positions culturelles, de dispositions nationalistes ou de l'homosexualité-fait partie inté- grante du roman de Wilde. En se fondant sur une lecture détaillée, cet essai montre que des points-clés dans le récit mettent en évidence l'absence de toute valeur et soulignent l'idée que les personnages se comportent en fonction de considérations purement matérielles. En conclusion, cet article souligne que Wilde donne à voir un monde aussi sombre que celui de Samuel Beckett. Christopher S. NASSAAR Hidden Meanings and the Failure of Art : Wilde's A Woman of No Importance Complexity is the hallmark of Oscar Wilde's mature works. From "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime" through The Picture of Dorian Gray and Salome, there is an incre- dible amount of complexity wherever we look. When we reach A Woman of No Importance, however, the complexity apparently disappears, and the play is usually read as a conventional Victorian melodrama. A deeper look at the play reveals veiled references to Farquhar, Hawthorne, Arbuthnot and Baudelaire. The refe- rences point to a deep hidden meaning in the play. Traced carefully, they reveal Mrs. Arbuthnot as a deeply corrupt woman who is unaware of the dark recesses of evil within herself. Unfortunately, this suppressed undercurrent of meaning is too dee- ply buried and very difficult to detect, which has led people in general to accept the surface meaning as the true one. The play is thus a stylistic failure, although its veiled thematic content is quite profound. La complexité caractérise les oeuvres d'Oscar Wilde, de "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime" jusqu'à The Picture of Dorian Gray et Salome, alors que, dans A Woman of No Importance, celle-ci paraît moins évidente, la pièce étant le plus souvent lue comme un mélodrame victorien conventionnel. Cependant, si on analyse la pièce de plus près, on y décèle des références voilées à Farquhar, Hawthorne, Arbuthnot et Baudelaire. Celles-ci soulignent qu'il y a dans la pièce un sens caché, et une analyse détaillée révèle que Mrs Arbuthnot est en fait une femme corrompue et inconsciente du mal tapi en elle. Malheureusement, parce que celui-ci est profondément enfoui, on s'en est souvent tenu à une lecture superficielle de la pièce. Celle-ci est donc, en un sens, un échec stylistique en dépit de sa profondeur thématique. Nathalie SAUDO-WELBY Narratorial authority in Sarah Grand's Beth Book (1897) The Beth Book, a partly autobiographical narrative, is a feminist Bildungsroman told in the third person. Historical, religious and scientifc discourses combine to give authority to the narrator's vision of Beth, so that the narrator is fnally in a position to award Beth the title of female genius. Yet, very little is said of the con- tent of Beth's "art for man's sake ;" the title and the content of her non-fction book are not described ; and the novel's last words are the name of her "Knight, " a writer who believes in woman's genius to reveal man's own. Avoiding the most direct form of didacticism, Sarah Grand has shifted the emphasis away from Beth's message to women to the narrator's work of authorizing Beth to progress to her position of public speaker. In the process, this narrator is given a historical consciousness and a sex. The Beth Book est un roman d'apprentissage féministe au contenu en partie auto- biographique. Fondant son autorité sur une analyse historique et un discours reli- gieux et scientifque, l'instance narrative fnit par octroyer à Beth le titre de génie féminin. Pourtant, un vide entoure le contenu de "l'art pour l'homme" de Beth ; de son ouvrage, on ne sait ni le titre ni le contenu mais seulement qu'il ne s'agit pas de fction ; les derniers mots du roman sont le nom de son "Chevalier" , un écri- vain qui croit que le génie des femmes consiste à susciter celui des hommes. Tout en évitant les formes de didactisme les plus directes, Sarah Grand a placé au centre de son roman engagé la tâche de la narratrice omnisciente qui va faire progresser Beth en position d'orateur de génie. Au cours de ce processus, la narratrice acquiert une conscience historique et un sexe. Pierre LONGUENESSE Yeats et le mélange des genres : du texte à la scène Dans le projet de "théâtre de l'imagination" formulé par Yeats dès 1890, le Verbe poétique est porteur d'un pouvoir visionnaire, par la performativité de son énoncia- tion concrète portée par le corps de ce que l'on n'appelle pas encore, avec Georges Banu, un "acteur-poète" . Ce projet fait de l'écriture dramatique un objet multi- forme, où le drame n'a de sens que mis en tension par ce qui le "menace" dans sa pureté générique : la narration, le chant, la danse. ll conduit le dramaturge vers des collaborations audacieuses sur les scènes de ses créations, entre musiciens, compo- siteurs, et danseurs. En somme, loin de "menacer" son théâtre, ces figures d'un "hors-champ" artistique sont ce qui en constitue l'expression par excellence, puisque, par le théâtre, est dévolu au verbe le pouvoir extra-ordinaire de faire sur- gir, par sa physicalité propre, aussi bien le souffle du chant que le rythme du corps dansant. In the "Theatre of Imagination" conceived by Yeats in the 1890s, the poetic Verb is given the power to create visions through the concrete physicality of its uttering by the performing body of what Georges Banu will later call an "acteur-poète". This project transforms dramatic writing process into the creation of a multiform object, in which the issue of the drama is brought out by the tension between oppo- site mediums : theatre on the one hand, singing, dance, tale on the other hand... This exploration involves Yeats in original collaborations on stage with composers, musicians, and dancers. In short, these manifestations of an artistic "hors-champ, " far from threatening the drama, become on the contrary the core of its expression, as a new power is, on stage, devoted to the Verb : the extra-ordinary power to arise the pneuma of singing as well as the rhythm of the dancing body. Olivier HERCEND Cinema, the mind and the reader in Virginia Woolf's The Mark On the Wall Taking up David Trotter's Cinema and Modernism, this article emphasises the strong links that exist between Virginia Woolf's thoughts on cinema and the new techniques and notions that she develops in "The Mark on the Wall. " Indeed, her depiction of the mind's process fosters the image of a fragmented world, a succes- sion of images that come under no authoritative order or meaning : a mere mon- tage. But cinema also contains the promise of an artistic answer to the fragmentation of the modern condition. Through a renewal of textual co-operation, Woolf opens her reader to the possibilities of what I choose to call an "aesthetics of juxtaposi- tion. Influencé très tôt par Artaud et Stein, il ne cesse de faire référence au théâtre et conçoit son art comme une réflexion sur la théâtralité et la notion de performance. Ses Europeras, à la fin de sa carrière, permettent de mettre en avant la manière dont il a cherché à la fois à inscrire ses expérimentations artis- tiques dans le champ théâtral tout en faisant sortir le théâtre des codes mêmes de la scène. La place centrale que Cage donne au théâtre, bien qu'il ne produise que de très rares oeuvres théâtrales, témoigne de son désir de penser le théâtre non pas en tant que médium mais en tant que lieu d'expérimentation. This article addresses John Cage's ambiguous relationship with theatre throughout his career. Influenced early by Artaud and Stein, he often referred to theatre and understood his own art project as a reflection on theatricality and performance. The Europeras, written late in his career, testify to his attempt to associate his artistic experimentation with theater while pushing on the limits of theatre. The prominent position Cage gave to the theatre in contrast to the rarity of his theatrical work pieces is emblematic of his ambition to re-think the theatre as a locus of experimentation.

The process of transnationalization in Europe is reflected in the growth of transport flows and the rapid development of new infrastructure facilities. The highly transport sector confronts policy makers with pressing challenges because some major environmental problems are attached to transport. Decision making in the field of transport and the environment is very complicated because of the complexity of the infrastructures themselves and because of the involvement of local actors in the decision making process. The central task of this book is to show how regions and countries deal with this complexity and the new challenges, different ways in which three small European countries face the many uncertainties and controversies surrounding infrastructural policies. Economical constraints, institutional and cultural factors are shown to interfere with the debates on transport-issues and the environmental risks attached to them. Each case-study describes the national characteristics of the transport sector and analyses in some detail one of the major controversies which recently arised around infrastructural projects.

Arrival of Mira Foreword Arrival of Mira tells the story of a beautiful young woman who held true to her faith despite many severe hardships. Mira was still only a child when she decided that Ginidhara Gopal (Lord Krishna) was her 'husband' and that she wanted to devote her life to serving and worshipping him. Later, the now orphaned Mira was married to Bhojan, the prince of Mewar and son of Rana, the king of Chittoor. Bhojan fell in love at first sight but found it hard to understand Mira's utter devotion to Ginidhara. Mira suffered at the hands of her in-laws who could not understand the depth of her love for Ginidhara and wanted her to follow their worship of Kali (in the form of Durga). Mira suffered imprisonment in a haunted palace and then exile for her beliefs. Even her friends were persecuted because of her uncompromising love for Lord Krishna. Eventually Bhojan came to understand his wife's piety. The story is told in the form of a musical play where the love story is interwoven with delightful songs and dances. The character of Mira is one to win the hearts of all who read of her. Her gentle devotion and steadfast belief are an inspiration to everyone. Questions about personal identity and about time affect us all. The concern for "our" future and the fear of "our" death are based on (mostly vague) concepts of personal identity over time. Though the atomic components of our present body are not identical with the ones shown on our childhood photos, we have no doubts in recognizing ourselves on those pictures. Similarly, we are convinced that "we" will be able to recognize "ourselves" on our present passport-photos even in the future. Is this confidence justified ? If it is not, our conception of life and death would be as faulty as was the image of the universe in the Middle Ages.

In this exhibition, the Museum Plantin-Moretus shows the 80 most beautiful old master drawings from Flemish collections. From scribble to cartoon : Drawings from Bruegel to Rubens in Flemish Collections (Van Crabbelinge tot Carton : Tekeningen van Bruegel tot Rubens in Vlaamse Collecties) gives an astonishing and representative overview of the art of drawing in our regions in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 2020, the Flemish government placed a large number of old master drawings on their masterpiece list, including rare artworks by Frans Floris, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony Van Dyck, Jacques Jordaens, Otto van Veen, Jan Fijt and many more. The majority of these masterpieces are kept in the Museum Plantin-Moretus. The museum takes the official recognition of these drawings as masterpieces as an opportunity to put its unique collection in the spotlight. The exhibition presents an overview that illustrates who, why and how people drew in our regions in the 16th and 17th centuries

Queen Vispa and King Dungammei are the beloved rulers of their respective kingdoms. The two territories live in harmony, sharing a temple that crosses their mutual border, but they pray to different gods and have little in common outside of geography. The monarchs seem an unlikely pair, but when each violates the rules of the temple - one by entering the temple as a woman, and the other by praying to the other kingdom's god - both find themselves abandoned by their people, deciding soon after to declare the approval and presence of both gods in their hearts, as well as their love for each other. The King and Queen's subjects also abandon the shared temple, leaving it to the disobedient pair and building separate temples in their own territories. The monarchs' happy life together is, however, short-lived, as Queen Vispa dies upon giving birth to their child Delarai. The King is urged to repent and return to his kingdom. He complies, leaving princess Delarai with Magi, a nurse from a remote village, to raise her. Delarai rows up in near isolation, far from other people, spending most of her time among flowers and animals of the beautiful temple garden. Meanwhile, battles rage between the two kingdoms following the King's return. Delaware, a son begotten to the King and his next wife, gets badly wounded some years later in an attempt to stop the fighting. On his deathbed, the Prince insists on being taken to the forbidden temple to be buried there. The King, though ill himself, agrees to fulfill his son's dying wish. It is there where Delarai, having become quite an expert at herbal remedies, comes to their aid, preparing a special potion while praying to the temple's two gods in her nurse Magi's native language. As Delarai completes the life-saving act of curing the Prince, she tries to call for Magi, but the word that leaves her lips is "magic". Those who witness the event soon spread the word, and Delarai becomes recognized across both kingdoms as the creator of magic. The King, however, succumbs to old age, imparting his last kernel of wisdom unto his daughter : the two temple gods are one and the same. With this knowledge and their newfound inner strength, Delarai and Delaware unify the two kingdoms, and live happily ever after.

Schiller defined the object of beauty as "living form." He explicitly related his thesis to a rationalistic aesthetics of form and to an empiricistic aesthetics of life. First the problem of aesthetic theorizing is treated. In the light of this discussion, respectively, the aesthetics of life, form, and living form are analyzed. First the respective ontological universe of each aesthetic theory is developed, then the aesthetic universe in terms of ontological commitments, and finally the specific interpretation of beauty is outlined.

How industrialization happened and how economic development started ?
