Klee. Edition en langue anglaise
Few artists of this century have exercised so wide an influence as Paul Klee (1879-1940). He was one of the most inventive and prolific of the modern masters, working in a dozen different styles, each of which he made uniquely his own, so that a work from his brush is unmistakable in any style. The forty-eight full-page colour plates in this book illustrate the unparalleled way in which he combined unrivalled imaginative gifts with supreme technical and formal proficiency, from the playfulness of such early pictures as Red and White Domes to the more threatening, bitter satire of the later work.

CE CATALOGUE des Tiques du monde dresse la liste raisonnée et hiérarchisée de tous les noms valides et invalides de tiques rencontrés dans la littérature. Il traite ainsi des 4 210 noms scientifiques différents qui correspondent aux 869 espèces ou sous-espèces reconnues au 1er janvier 1996.
Il ne se contente pas d'établir toutes les synonymies, dont certaines sont inédites, mais précise aussi, pour chaque espèce, les stades décrits, les hôtes majeurs des stades immatures et adultes et la répartition par zones biogéographiques. Il est par ailleurs l'occasion, pour les auteurs, de formaliser leur conception de la classification des Ixodida et de fournir une bibliographie prenant la suite de celle de Hoogstraal arrêtée au 31 décembre 1984.
Au plan pratique, un index à 5 148 entrées renvoie, pour chaque nom scientifique, à la ligne du catalogue où il apparaît dans la classification. Cet accès immédiat permet d'en déduire son statut et de consulter toutes les informations bio-écologiques qui s'y rapportent.
Cette somme, sans équivalent actuel, intéressera tous les scientifiques concernés par l'acarologie - zoologistes, vétérinaires ou médecins - qui éprouvent des difficultés à interpréter les noms de tiques utilisés dans les publications anciennes et récentes.
Cet ouvrage trouve donc sa place dans le domaine de l'épidémiologie des nombreuses maladies causées par les tiques, telles que, chez l'animal, la paralysie à tiques, les babesioses, les theilerioses, la cowdriose, le Louping ill du mouton et des bovins, la maladie du mouton de Nairobi et la peste porcine africaine, et chez l'homme, la maladie de Lyme, la fièvre pourprée des Montagnes Rocheuses, la fièvre boutonneuse, l'encéphalite à tiques, la maladie de la forêt de Kyasanur et la fièvre hémorragique de Crimée-Congo.
THIS CATALOGUE of the Ticks of the world offers an annotated and hierarchical list of all the valid and invalid latin tick names occurring in the literature. It deals with 4,210 names for 869 recognized species and subspecies described up to 1/1/1996.
Besides giving all the accepted synonymies - some of them hitherto unpublished -, it specifies, for each species, the described stages, the main hosts for the immature and adult stages, and the biogeographical distribution. It follows the classification currently chosen by the authors. Moreover it contains an updated bibliography continuing Hoogstraal's which ended 31/12/1984.
An efficient tool is given by an index of 5,148 entrances referring to the proper line of the catalogue where the name appears in the classification of the Ixodida. This allows the reader to be immediately aware of its status and of all the related bioecological data.
This comprehensive book on tick nomenclature, hosts and biogeographil, concerns all scientists involved in acaralogy - zoologists as well as veterinarians and doctors - who have difficulties in interpreting the tick names used in old or recent publications.
It can thus be useful in the field of the epidemiology of numerous tickborne diseases in animals such as Tick Paralysis, Babesiosis, East Coast Fever, Heartwater, Louping ill, Nairobi Sheep Disease, African Swine Fever, or in humans such as Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Boutonneuse Fever, Tick Borne Encephalitis, Kyasanur Forest Disease and Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever.

Ambivalence and Irony in the Works of Joseph Roth
Did Joseph Roth, the socialist, revolutionary and sceptic, become a monarchist, reactionary and believer ? This work attributes the contradictory manifestations in the life and personality of Roth to the attitude of ambivalence and irony that characterised him and his generation. The historical and intellectual situation that led to the dominance of this attitude and Roth's susceptibility to it due to the circumstances of his life are discussed. A meticulous study of Roth's letters, journalistic work and novels follows substantiating the thesis advanced.

The Gregory Gift
Presenting for the first time the Alexis Gregory Gift to The Frick Collection, this exquisite publication provides illuminating insights into Gregory's magnificently eclectic collection, cataloging his fine and decorative works of art in detail. Twenty-eight works of art bequeathed to the Frick by Alexis Gregory range from Limoges enamels to Saint-Porchaire ware to pastels by the Venetian painter Rosalba Carriera. This remarkable gift has introduced new types of objects to the Frick : works in ivory and rhinoceros horn are the first of their kind to be held in the collection. Gregory's gift includes fifteen Limoges enamels, one of them produced in the workshop of Suzanne de Court, the only woman known to have led an enamel workshop in Limoges. Also part of the gift are a gilt-bronze sculpture, an ivory hilt, a pomander, ewers, saltcellars, and two clocks. Many of Gregory's objects came from such prestigious owners as the French royal collections and the Rothschilds. Included in the publication are commentaries on each gift. This lavishly illustrated publication accompanies an exhibition that will be on view at The Frick Collection February 16 through May 14, 2023.

Brides on Sale
Beginning in the 1990s large numbers of women from Mainland China and Southeast Asia married men in Taiwan. They now number over 400,000, warranting some to call them "Taiwan's Fifth Ethnic Group". This book argues that the rise of these marriages is a gendered and relational phenomenon, linked to the forces of globalization. Traditional ideas of marriage, such as the belief that a woman "marries out" of her natal family to be dependent upon her husband and his family, and the idea that a man should "marry down" to a woman of a lesser social and economic status, have not kept pace with changes in women's educational and career opportunities. How these relationships are formed, how they impact gendered understandings of women and men, how families are constituted and relationships developed, and how they affect the children of these families and their education, are the issues explored in this book. It breaks new ground in our understanding of transnational and cross-border marriages by looking at the long-term effects of such marriages on communities, families, and individuals.

The dissertation investigates the work of the Project in Partnership between Black and White which is based in Birmingham, England. The focus of this experiment in theological education is dialogical and intercultural within the British socio-cultural setting. This programme is compared with the Alternative Theological and Staff Development Experiment of Colgate Divinity School in Rochester, New York ; and the Black Church Experience, the Research in Black Church Studies and Research Study in Oral History at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, Evanston, Illinois in USA. This study further probes into the trends in general education in South Africa and their influence on the socio-political dynamics and how these in turn influence education for mission. The research analyses these approaches in the light of the work done by the Programme on Theological Education of the World Council of Chruches. The enquiry points to the need to re-think our approach to theological education in all our pluralistic societies.

This work studies the theme of universalism, namely the sharing of the gentile nations in salvation according to the gospel of Matthew. The method being employed is synchronic. All the texts that are relevant to the theme are interpreted, taking into account their context and their synoptic parallels. The study reveals that the theme of universalism is well organized and gradually developed in the gospel of Matthew. It constitutes one important theme.

Dislocated Identities
This book offers a significant, original and timely contribution to the study of one of the most important and notorious Latin American authors of the twentieth century : Reinaldo Arenas. The text engages with the many extraordinary intersections created between Arenas' writing, the autobiographical construction of the literary subject and the exilic condition. Through focusing on texts written on the island of Cuba and in exile, the author analyses the ways in which Arenas' writing emblemises a complex process of identification with, and rejection of, his homeland – always an imagined place and which is, as the place of his origins, intrinsically related to the maternal. She examines how the maternal and the motherland are conflated and how the narrator-protagonists' identification is always in relation to, and dependent upon, this dominant motif. The book also explores the extent to which Arenas' writing is a tortuous attempt to escape from this dominance and to free himself and his writing from the ties that bind him to the mother and the motherland, and shows that Arenas suffered the exilic condition long before his move to the United States in 1980 as part of the Mariel exodus.

Seeing loud. Basquiat and music
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, New York City was financially and socially bankrupt, but the art and music scene was flourishing. During these years, the downtown New York music scene - no wave, hip-hop, disco funk and club culture - shaped Jean-Michel Basquiat as both a musician and an artist. This catalog for a traveling exhibition explores how Basquiat's painting has parallels in his music (sampling, cut-up, rapping), and takes a new look at his production as a writer and a poet in light of his connections with the then-emerging hip-hop culture. This beautifully illustrated exhibition catalog of rarely seen photographs and images sheds new light on Basquiat as a musician, exploring how his art and music are related, and how they reflect on his identity as a Black artist in the United States, the downtown New York music scene, and contemporary culture.

The Image of the Woman in the Works of Ingeborg Bachmann
In this study an analysis of the women characters, who play a dominant part in Bachmann's prose writings, was presented. The results suggested a complex but coherent image. It was found that although the characteristics of this image deserved the appellation "sex-specific" and "traditional" they were infused with new values : the values of individualism, of a specifically female identity and of particular intense personal freedom. It was also found that the theme of personal freedom underlies all motivations, conflicts and situations of tragedy of Bachmann's heroines. Finally, it was found that the image of the woman is not only part of a distinct female-male antithesis, which often assumes violent dimensions, but has a redeeming function for a de-humanized world.

Mediation - A Necessary Element in Family Dispute Resolution?
Mediation as a method of alternative dispute resolution is gaining increased attention in a growing number of legal areas. In Australian law family counselling was developed to deal with issues related to family disputes. It is brought in prior to court settlement of disputes and thus integrated into the system of conflict resolution. The characteristics and use of alternative dispute resolution call into question the role of the court as the sole forum for institutionalised conflict resolution. For this reason the transferability of the concept of mediation into the German legal system needs to be examined. In particular, it needs to be measured against the yardstick of the German Constitution, which by granting basic substantive and procedural rights, sets out the demands a modern state of law makes on a method of conflict resolution.

This book on macrodynamic theories of growth, (in-)stability and cycles shows that the debate between Keynesians, Monetarists and New Classical economists can be reformulated from the perspective of a further and quite different approach to macroeconomic model building. Basis of this reformulation is the growth cycle model of Goodwin which is extended in various ways in the pursuit of this aim. Besides this central theme, the book also introduces into Keynesian, Marxian and Neoclassical models of short-, medium- and long-run macroeconomics in its part I, II. Models which synthesize these approaches and which thus provide a (deterministic) framework for the investigation of the adequateness of the various explanations of cyclical growth and inflation are considered in part III.

Cet ensemble de 50 dessins a été réalisé entre août 2019 et juin 2020. Réinterprétations graphiques frôlant l'abstraction, ces dessins à l'encre de Chine noire prennent pour support de recouvrement deux chapelets de cartes postales touristiques du massif vosgien (les Hautes-Vosges et le Hohneck, circa 1920) et un ensemble de photographies de la Cordillère des Andes et des Alpes, issu de récits d'expéditions en montagne (circa 1950). Il s'agit, en quelque sorte, d'un rapport médical sur un système démocratique à l'agonie, avec une prescription pour les héritiers. Le testament est à venir.

Shadee est pressée, elle veut aller de l'avant mais sans avoir à choisir comment avancer et dans quelle direction. La vingtaine, de toutes les façons, c'est fait pour découvrir, faire des erreurs, rire, aimer, et ça tombe bien, c'est ce qu'elle sait faire de mieux ! Les RER de 8 h 22 souvent ratés, les soirées où il faut être tagguées mais où on ne l'invite pas, les collègues trop fraîches pour être honnêtes, le gluten-sugar free auquel elle essaie d'adhérer avant de se laisser tenter par un taco, Shadee est une jeune femme de son temps ! Presque parisienne, branchée et fière de ses origines, elle veut être aimée de Pierre, rendre fiers ses parents et réussir sa carrière sans avoir à vendre son âme au diable. Alix, Sio, Pierre et Kimya, ses fidèles partenaires, font de son monde un jeu dont il faut connaître les règles, au risque de se brûler les ailes ! Dido Mbbalu Grédigui signe ici son premier roman.

" J'ai longtemps fait partie de ces personnes qui pensaient naïvement que le cancer du sein, c'était pour les autres. Mes seins étaient trop beaux pour être touchés par la maladie. Sombre idiote ! " " Alors que ma fille fêtait ses 1 an la veille, je suis enfin allée passer cette échographie mammaire que l'on m'avait prescrit en dernier recours, à la suite de douleurs au sein où l'on m'avait diagnostiquée une "déchirure musculaire". J'ai bêtement fait confiance au corps médical, jusqu'à ce que la douleur me paralyse et revienne plus fréquemment et soit de plus en plus forte. Le temps passe, la boule grossit, les douleurs s'installent, doucement mais sûrement. Et puis, tout s'est enchaîné, le diagnostic est tombé : j'ai un cancer du sein agressif. A tout juste 33 ans. C'est la douche froide. Je pense immédiatement à mes enfants. Ma fille a fêté ses 1 an il y a quelques jours à peine, mon fils aîné vient juste de faire sa rentrée en maternelle. Ma vie s'arrête, je me vois mourir. Quand je reprends mes esprits, je me rends compte que des cancers du sein, il n'y en a pas qu'un, et que tous ne se guérissent pas nécessairement bien. Forcément, il fallait que je tombe sur le plus agressif, le Triple négatif, qui ne réponds à aucun marqueur. Là, j'ai un déclic : ce cancer ne m'a pas touché pour rien, je vais en faire mon cheval de bataille. Me battre pour que les femmes de mon âge se sentent concernées, qu'elles fassent plus attention à leur poitrine, au moindre signe suspect. Pour que ce cancer soit connu du grand public et que l'on arrête de me dire qu'un cancer du sein se soigne bien. Alors que 12 000 femmes en meurent chaque année en France et que de plus en plus de jeunes femmes sont touchées chaque année par un cancer du sein... Pourquoi personne ne nous parle du cancer lorsque l'on est enceinte ? Pourquoi les professionnels de santé ne sont pas à l'écoute de notre corps ? Pourquoi sommes-nous de plus en plus à avoir un cancer dans la vingtaine, dans la trentaine ? Serait-ce un scandale sanitaire ? C'est comme cela que ma bataille commence... "

Danyal est si beau, que personne n'écoute ce qu'il a à dire ! Danyal n'est peut-être pas une lumière, mais tout le monde le trouve beau à tomber par terre. Avec son humour, son assurance et ses talents de cuisinier, il a tout pour réussir. Sauf que son père, d'origine pakistanaise et très traditionnel, voit d'un mauvais oeil le choix de carrière de son fils. Pire, il commence à lui chercher une femme... alors que Danyal n'a d'yeux que pour la belle Kaval, et ce depuis toujours ! Pour prouver à tout le monde qu'il n'est pas qu'un joli visage, Danyal s'inscrit à un concours de compétences. Pour l'aider à gagner, il demande à Bisma, une jeune fille un peu geek, de l'aider. Plus il passe de temps avec elle, plus il comprend que le bonheur est peut-être juste à portée de main ; il n'a pas besoin du regard des autres tant qu'il est brillant aux yeux de Bisma. Un livre très fin sur le poids des origines et le clash des cultures entre tradition et modernité.

One of my ancestors, a senior civil servant in the Spanish government, used to recount that culture and agriculture are the two best ways of making the most of one's time and money. Today, the seventh generation of our family of olive farmers still is in firm belief of the same ethos. Olive oil holds the heart and soul of Mediterranean culture, and we have used all of our passion and knowledge to strive to reach perfection, while at the same time respecting nature, and mixing traditions with avant-garde techniques. In today's ever-globalized society, where cultures meet and mix, olive oil, an eons-long symbol of the Mediterranean, finds itself on tables from Scandinavia to Australia to Japan. Basically, it is nothing more than the delicate and subtle juice of the olive. At the house of Nunez de Prado - ever conscious of maintaining quality - we harvest all of our olives by hand including those having fallen to the ground. Only hours later is the crop carried to the mill where the fruit is broken up by granite rolls and pressed. The precious liquid extracted from the produce is decanted naturally to isolate that minute quantity of vegetal deliciousness that is the oil. Though appearing simple, this extraction process, especially for a high quality oil, is nearly as complex as the production of a quality château wine, the term used in Spanish to describe olive oils as well.
